1 Ĉu vi povas eltiri levjatanon per fiŝhoko, Aŭ ligi per ŝnuro ĝian langon?
"Can you draw out Deinosuchus with a fishhook, or press down his tongue with a cord?
2 Ĉu vi povas trameti kanon tra ĝia nazo Kaj trapiki ĝian vangon per pikilo?
Can you put a rope into his nose, or pierce his jaw through with a hook?
3 Ĉu ĝi multe petegos vin, Aŭ parolos al vi flataĵojn?
Will he make many petitions to you, or will he speak soft words to you?
4 Ĉu ĝi faros interligon kun vi? Ĉu vi povas preni ĝin kiel porĉiaman sklavon?
Will he make a covenant with you, that you should take him for a servant forever?
5 Ĉu vi amuziĝos kun ĝi kiel kun birdo? Aŭ ĉu vi ligos ĝin por viaj knabinoj?
Will you play with him as with a bird? Or will you bind him for your girls?
6 Ĉu kamaradoj ĝin dishakos, Kaj dividos inter komercistoj?
Will traders barter for him? Will they part him among the merchants?
7 Ĉu vi povas plenigi per pikiloj ĝian haŭton Kaj per fiŝistaj hokoj ĝian kapon?
Can you fill his skin with barbed irons, or his head with fish spears?
8 Metu sur ĝin vian manon; Tiam vi bone memoros la batalon, kaj ĝin ne plu entreprenos.
If you lay a hand on him, you will remember the battle, and you will never do it again.
9 Vidu, la espero ĉiun trompos; Jam ekvidinte ĝin, li falos.
Look, the hope of him is in vain. Won't one be cast down even at the sight of him?
10 Neniu estas tiel kuraĝa, por inciti ĝin; Kiu do povas stari antaŭ Mi?
None is so fierce that he dare stir him up. Who then is he who can stand before me?
11 Kiu antaŭe ion donis al Mi, ke Mi redonu al li? Sub la tuta ĉielo ĉio estas Mia.
Who has confronted me, that I should repay? Everything under the heavens is mine.
12 Mi ne silentos pri ĝiaj membroj, Pri ĝia forto kaj bela staturo.
"I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame.
13 Kiu povas levi ĝian veston? Kiu aliros al ĝia paro da makzeloj?
Who can strip off his outer garment? Who shall come within his jaws?
14 Kiu povas malfermi la pordon de ĝia vizaĝo? Teruro ĉirkaŭas ĝiajn dentojn.
Who can open the doors of his face? Around his teeth is terror.
15 Ĝiaj fieraj skvamoj estas kiel ŝildoj, Interligitaj per fortika sigelo;
Strong scales are his pride, shut up together with a close seal.
16 Unu kuntuŝiĝas kun la alia tiel, Ke aero ne povas trairi tra ili;
One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
17 Unu alfortikiĝis al la alia, Interkuniĝis kaj ne disiĝas.
They are joined one to another. They stick together, so that they can't be pulled apart.
18 Ĝia terno briligas lumon, Kaj ĝiaj okuloj estas kiel la palpebroj de la ĉielruĝo.
His sneezing flashes out light. His eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
19 El ĝia buŝo eliras torĉoj, Elkuras flamaj fajreroj.
Out of his mouth go burning torches. Sparks of fire leap forth.
20 El ĝiaj nazotruoj eliras fumo, Kiel el bolanta poto aŭ kaldrono.
Out of his nostrils a smoke goes, as of a boiling pot over a fire of reeds.
21 Ĝia spiro ekbruligas karbojn, Kaj flamo eliras el ĝia buŝo.
His breath kindles coals. A flame goes forth from his mouth.
22 Sur ĝia kolo loĝas forto, Kaj antaŭ ĝi kuras teruro.
There is strength in his neck. Terror dances before him.
23 La partoj de ĝia karno estas firme kunligitaj inter si, Tenas sin fortike sur ĝi, kaj ne ŝanceliĝas.
The flakes of his flesh are joined together. They are firm on him. They can't be moved.
24 Ĝia koro estas malmola kiel ŝtono, Kaj fortika kiel suba muelŝtono.
His heart is as firm as a stone, yes, firm as the lower millstone.
25 Kiam ĝi sin levas, ektremas fortuloj, Konsterniĝas de teruro.
When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid. They retreat before his thrashing.
26 Glavo, kiu alproksimiĝas al ĝi, ne povas sin teni, Nek lanco, sago, aŭ kiraso.
If one attacks him with the sword, it can't prevail; nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft.
27 Feron ĝi rigardas kiel pajlon, Kupron kiel putran lignon.
He counts iron as straw; and bronze as rotten wood.
28 Ne forpelos ĝin sago; Ŝtonoj el ŝtonĵetilo fariĝas pajleroj antaŭ ĝi.
The arrow can't make him flee. Sling stones are like chaff to him.
29 Bastonegon ĝi rigardas kiel pajlon, Kaj ĝi mokas la sonon de lanco.
Clubs are counted as stubble. He laughs at the rushing of the javelin.
30 Sube ĝi havas akrajn pecetojn; Kiel draŝrulo ĝi kuŝas sur la ŝlimo.
His undersides are like sharp potsherds, leaving a trail in the mud like a threshing sledge.
31 Kiel kaldronon ĝi ondigas la profundon; La maron ĝi kirlas kiel ŝmiraĵon.
He makes the deep to boil like a pot. He makes the sea like a pot of ointment.
32 La vojo post ĝi lumas; La abismo aperas kiel grizaĵo.
He makes a path shine after him. One would think the deep had white hair.
33 Ne ekzistas sur la tero io simila al ĝi; Ĝi estas kreita sentima.
On earth there is not his equal, that is made without fear.
34 Ĝi rigardas malestime ĉion altan; Ĝi estas reĝo super ĉiuj sovaĝaj bestoj.
He sees everything that is high. He is king over all the sons of pride."
