1 La presbitero al Gajo, la amata, kiun mi amas en la vero.

The elder to Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth.

2 Amato, mi preĝas, ke al vi prosperu ĉio, kaj vi bonsanu tiel same, kiel prosperas al via animo.

Beloved, in all things I pray that thou mayst prosper and be in health, as thy soul prospereth.

3 Ĉar mi treege ĝojis, kiam fratoj venis kaj atestis pri via vereco, kiel vi iradas en la vero.

For I rejoiced greatly, when brethren came and bore witness to thy truth, as thou walkest in truth.

4 Pli grandan ĝojon mi ne havas, ol aŭdi pri miaj infanoj iradantaj en la vero.

I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my children walk in the truth.

5 Amato, vi faras fidele rilate al ĉiuj viaj klopodoj por la fratoj kaj tiuj fremduloj,

Beloved, thou doest a faithful thing whatever thou doest to the brethren, and that to strangers,

6 kiuj atestis vian amon antaŭ la eklezio; kaj vi faros bone, tiujn antaŭenigante dece je Dio,

who bore witness of thy love before the church; whom if thou send forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God, thou wilt do well.

7 ĉar pro la Nomo ili eliris, akceptante nenion de la nacianoj.

For in behalf of the Name they went forth, taking nothing of the gentiles.

8 Ni devas do akcepti tiajn, por ke ni estu kunlaborantoj kun la vero.

We therefore ought to sustain such persons, that we may be fellow-workers for the truth.

9 Mi skribis iom al la eklezio; sed Diotrefes, kiu amas la estrecon inter ili, nin ne akceptas.

I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, receiveth us not.

10 Tial, se mi venos, mi rememorigos al li la farojn, kiujn li faras, per malbonaj paroloj babilante kontraŭ ni; kaj ne kontenta je tio, li mem ne akceptas la fratojn, nek tion permesas al tiuj, kiuj volas, kaj ilin el la eklezio elpelas.

Wherefore, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words; and not content therewith, he himself doth not receive the brethren, and those that would he forbiddeth, and casteth them out of the church.

11 Amato, imitu ne la malbonon, sed la bonon. Bonfaranto estas el Dio; malbonfaranto ne vidis Dion.

Beloved, do not imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God; he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

12 Pri Demetrio estas atestite de ĉiuj, kaj de la vero mem; kaj ni ja atestas; kaj vi scias, ke nia atesto estas vera.

To Demetrius testimony hath been borne by all, and by the truth itself; yea, we also bear witness, and ye know that our witness is true.

13 Mi havis multon por skribi al vi; sed mi ne volas skribi al vi per inko kaj kano;

I had many things to write to thee, but I do not wish to write to thee with ink and pen;

14 sed mi esperas vidi vin baldaŭ, kaj ni parolos vizaĝon kontraŭ vizaĝo. Paco al vi. Salutas vin la amikoj. Salutu laŭ nomo la amikojn.

but I hope to see thee immediately, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. The friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.
