Zephaniah 2
1 Bend yourselves, yea, bend ye, O nation not desired,
Reflexionad sobre vosotros mismos, y arrepentíos, oh nación sin pudor,
2 Before the bringing forth of a statute, As chaff hath the day passed on, While yet not come in upon you doth the heat of the anger of Jehovah, While yet not come in upon you doth a day of the anger of Jehovah,
antes que se ejecute el decreto, y el día pase como tamo; antes que os sobrevenga la ira ardiente de Yahvé, y antes que caiga sobre vosotros el día de la ira de Yahvé.
3 Seek Jehovah, all ye humble of the land, Who His judgment have done, Seek ye righteousness, seek humility, It may be ye are hidden in a day of the anger of Jehovah.
Buscad a Yahvé, humildes todos de la tierra, los que obráis rectamente. Buscad la justicia, buscad la humildad, por si podéis poneros a cubierto en el día de la ira de Yahvé.
4 For Gaza is forsaken, And Ashkelon [is] for a desolation, Ashdod! at noon they do cast her forth, And Ekron is rooted up.
Porque Gaza será abandonada y Ascalón asolada, Azoto expulsada en pleno día y Acarón desarraigada.
5 Ho! O inhabitants of the sea-coast, Nation of the Cherethites, A word of Jehovah [is] against you, Canaan, land of the Philistines, And I have destroyed thee without an inhabitant.
¡Ay de los habitantes de la costa del mar, del pueblo de los cereteos! Contra ti se dirige la palabra de Yahvé, oh Canaán, país de los filisteos; te asolaré de modo que no quede morador.
6 And the sea-coast hath been habitations, Cottages [for] shepherds, and folds [for] a flock.
La costa del mar se convertirá en pastizales, en refugios para pastores y apriscos para ovejas.
7 And the coast hath been for the remnant of the house of Judah, By them they have pleasure, In houses of Ashkelon at even they lie down, For inspect them doth Jehovah their God, And He hath turned back [to] their captivity.
Y pertenecerá la Costa a los restos de la casa de Judá; allí apacentarán (sus rebaños), y por la noche descansarán en las casas de Ascalón, pues Yahvé, su Dios, los visitará y los traerá del cautiverio.
8 I have heard the reproach of Moab, And the revilings of the sons of Ammon, Wherewith they reproached My people, And magnify [themselves] against their border.
He oído los insultos de Moab, y los ultrajes de los hijos de Ammón, que han afrentado a mi pueblo, y se han engrandecido a costa de su territorio.
9 Therefore, I live, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Surely, Moab is as Sodom, And the sons of Ammon as Gomorrah, An overrunning of nettles and salt-pits, And a desolation — unto the age. A residue of My people do seize them, And a remnant of My nation inherit them.
Por eso, ¡vivo Yo!, dice Yahvé de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Moab será como Sodoma, y los hijos de Ammón como Gomorra, campo de ortigas, mina de sal, desierto para siempre. El resto de mi pueblo los despojará, y las reliquias de mi nación los tomaran en posesión.
10 This [is] to them for their arrogancy, Because they have reproached, And they magnify [themselves] against the people of Jehovah of Hosts.
Este será el pago de su orgullo; pues han insultado y tratado con insolencia al pueblo de Yahvé de los ejércitos.
11 Fearful [is] Jehovah against them, For He made bare all gods of the land, And bow themselves to Him, each from his place, Do all islanders of the nations.
Terrible será Yahvé contra ellos, pues acabará con todos los dioses de la tierra; ante Él se postrarán, cada cual desde su lugar, todas las islas de las gentes.
12 Also ye, O Cushim, pierced of My sword [are] they.
También vosotros, oh etíopes, seréis muertos por mi espada.
13 And He stretcheth His hand against the north, And doth destroy Asshur, And he setteth Nineveh for a desolation, A dry land like a wilderness.
Y extenderá Él su mano contra el Norte y destruirá a Asiria, haciendo de Nínive un yermo, un lugar árido como el desierto.
14 And crouched in her midst have droves, Every beast of the nation, Both pelican and hedge-hog in her knobs lodge, A voice doth sing at the window, 'Destruction [is] at the threshold, For the cedar-work is exposed.'
Reposarán en medio de ella rebaños, y toda clase de animales; tanto el pelícano como el erizo se alojarán en sus capiteles; en los huecos se oirán voces que murmullan, y la desolación estará en los umbrales; pues ha sido arrancado el maderaje de cedro.
15 This [is] the exulting city that is dwelling confidently, That is saying in her heart, 'I [am], and beside me there is none,' How hath she been for a desolation, A crouching-place for beasts, Every one passing by her doth hiss, He doth shake his hand!
¡Esta es la ciudad alegre que habitaba en seguridad, la que decía en su corazón: “¡Yo y nadie más que yo!” ¡Cómo se ha convertido en desierto, en guarida de fieras! Cuantos pasen junto a ella silbarán y agitarán la mano.
