< Psalms 94 >
1 God of vengeance — Jehovah! God of vengeance, shine forth.
Adonai, you God to whom vengeance belongs, you God to whom vengeance belongs, shine out.
2 Be lifted up, O Judge of the earth, Send back a recompence on the proud.
Rise up, you judge of the earth. Pay back the proud what they deserve.
3 Till when [do] the wicked, O Jehovah? Till when do the wicked exult?
Adonai, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph?
4 They utter — they speak an old saw, All working iniquity do boast themselves.
They pour out arrogant words. All those who practice vain striving of iniquity boast.
5 Thy people, O Jehovah, they bruise, And Thine inheritance they afflict.
They break your people in pieces, Adonai, and afflict your heritage.
6 Widow and sojourner they slay, And fatherless ones they murder.
They kill the widow and the alien, and murder the fatherless.
7 And they say, 'Jehovah doth not see, And the God of Jacob doth not consider.'
They say, “Yah will not see, neither will Jacob [Supplanter]’s God consider.”
8 Consider, ye brutish among the people, And ye foolish, when do ye act wisely?
Consider, you senseless among the people; you fools, when will you be wise?
9 He who planteth the ear doth He not hear? He who formeth the eye doth He not see?
He who implanted the ear, won’t he sh'ma ·hear obey·? He who formed the eye, won’t he see?
10 He who is instructing nations, Doth He not reprove? He who is teaching man knowledge [is] Jehovah.
He who disciplines the nations, won’t he punish? He who teaches man knows.
11 He knoweth the thoughts of man, that they [are] vanity.
Adonai knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile.
12 O the happiness of the man Whom Thou instructest, O Jah, And out of Thy law teachest him,
Blessed is the man whom you discipline, Yah, and teach out of your Torah ·Teaching·;
13 To give rest to him from days of evil, While a pit is digged for the wicked.
that you may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For Jehovah leaveth not His people, And His inheritance forsaketh not.
For Adonai won’t reject his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.
15 For to righteousness judgment turneth back, And after it all the upright of heart,
For judgment will teshuvah ·completely return· to righteousness. All the upright in heart shall follow it.
16 Who riseth up for me with evil doers? Who stationeth himself for me with workers of iniquity?
Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand up for me against those who practice vain striving of iniquity?
17 Unless Jehovah [were] a help to me, My soul had almost inhabited silence.
Unless Adonai had been my help, my soul would have soon lived in silence.
18 If I have said, 'My foot hath slipped,' Thy kindness, O Jehovah, supporteth me.
When I said, “My foot is slipping!” Your chesed ·loving-kindness·, Adonai, held me up.
19 In the abundance of my thoughts within me, Thy comforts delight my soul.
In the multitude of my thoughts within me, your comforts delight my soul.
20 Is a throne of mischief joined [with] Thee? A framer of perverseness by statute?
Shall the throne of wickedness have fellowship with you, which brings about mischief by statute?
21 They decree against the soul of the righteous, And innocent blood declare wicked.
They gather themselves together against the soul of the upright, and condemn as guilty the innocent blood.
22 And Jehovah is for a high place to me, And my God [is] for a rock — my refuge,
But Adonai has been my high tower, my God, the rock of my refuge.
23 And turneth back on them their iniquity, And in their wickedness cutteth them off; Jehovah our God doth cut them off!
He has brought on them their own vain striving of iniquity, and will cut them off in their own wickedness. Adonai, our God, will cut them off.
