Psalms 81
1 To the Overseer. — 'On the Gittith.' By Asaph. Cry aloud to God our strength, Shout to the God of Jacob.
Psaume d'Asaph, [donné] au maître chantre, [pour le chanter] sur Guittith. Chantez gaiement à Dieu, qui est notre force; jetez des cris de réjouissance en l'honneur du Dieu de Jacob.
2 Lift up a song, and give out a timbrel, A pleasant harp with psaltery.
Entonnez le Cantique, prenez le tambour, la harpe agréable, et la musette.
3 Blow in the month a trumpet, In the new moon, at the day of our festival,
Sonnez la trompette en la nouvelle lune, en la solennité, pour le jour de notre fête.
4 For a statute to Israel it [is], An ordinance of the God of Jacob.
Car c'est un statut à Israël, une ordonnance du Dieu de Jacob.
5 A testimony on Joseph He hath placed it, In his going forth over the land of Egypt. A lip, I have not known — I hear.
Il établit cela pour témoignage en Joseph, lorsqu'il sortit contre le pays d'Egypte, où j'ouïs un langage que je n'entendais pas.
6 From the burden his shoulder I turned aside, His hands from the basket pass over.
J'ai retiré, [dit-il], ses épaules de dessous la charge, et ses mains ont été retirées arrière des pots.
7 In distress thou hast called and I deliver thee, I answer thee in the secret place of thunder, I try thee by the waters of Meribah. (Selah)
Tu as crié étant en détresse, et je t'en ai retiré; je t'ai répondu du milieu de la nue où gronde le tonnerre; je t'ai éprouvé auprès des eaux de Mériba; (Sélah)
8 Hear, O My people, and I testify to thee, O Israel, if thou dost hearken to me:
Ecoute mon peuple, je te sommerai; Israël ô si tu m'écoutais!
9 There is not in thee a strange god, And thou bowest not thyself to a strange god.
Il n'y aura point au milieu de toi de dieu étranger, et tu ne te prosterneras point devant les dieux des étrangers.
10 I [am] Jehovah thy God, Who bringeth thee up out of the land of Egypt. Enlarge thy mouth, and I fill it.
Je suis l'Eternel ton Dieu, qui t'ai fait monter hors du pays d'Egypte; dilate ta bouche, et je l'emplirai.
11 But, My people hearkened not to My voice, And Israel hath not consented to Me.
Mais mon peuple n'a point écouté ma voix, et Israël ne m'a point eu à gré.
12 And I send them away in the enmity of their heart, They walk in their own counsels.
C'est pourquoi je les ai abandonnés à la dureté de leur cœur, et ils ont marché selon leurs conseils.
13 O that My people were hearkening to Me, Israel in My ways would walk.
Ô si mon peuple m'eût écouté! si Israël eût marché dans mes voies!
14 As a little thing their enemies I cause to bow, And against their adversaries I turn back My hand,
J'eusse en un instant abattu leurs ennemis, et j'eusse tourné ma main contre leurs adversaires.
15 Those hating Jehovah feign obedience to Him, But their time is — to the age.
Ceux qui haïssent l'Eternel lui auraient menti, et le temps [de mon peuple] eût été à toujours.
16 He causeth him to eat of the fat of wheat, And [with] honey from a rock I satisfy thee!
Et [Dieu] l'eût nourri de la mœlle du froment; et je t'eusse, [dit-il], rassasié du miel [qui distille] de la roche.
