< Psalms 48 >
1 A Song, a Psalm, by sons of Korah. Great [is] Jehovah, and praised greatly, In the city of our God — His holy hill.
Psalmus, Laus Cantici filiis Core secunda sabbati. Magnus Dominus, et laudabilis nimis in civitate Dei nostri, in monte sancto eius.
2 Beautiful [for] elevation, A joy of all the land, [is] Mount Zion, The sides of the north, the city of a great king.
Fundatur exultatione universae terrae mons Sion, latera Aquilonis, civitas Regis magni.
3 God in her high places is known for a tower.
Deus in domibus eius cognoscetur, cum suscipiet eam.
4 For, lo, the kings met, they passed by together,
Quoniam ecce reges terrae congregati sunt: convenerunt in unum.
5 They have seen — so they have marvelled, They have been troubled, they were hastened away.
Ipsi videntes sic admirati sunt, conturbati sunt, commoti sunt:
6 Trembling hath seized them there, Pain, as of a travailing woman.
tremor apprehendit eos. Ibi dolores ut parturientis,
7 By an east wind Thou shiverest ships of Tarshish.
in spiritu vehementi conteres naves Tharsis.
8 As we have heard, so we have seen, In the city of Jehovah of hosts, In the city of our God, God doth establish her — to the age. (Selah)
Sicut audivimus, sic vidimus in civitate Domini virtutum, in civitate Dei nostri: Deus fundavit eam in aeternum.
9 We have thought, O God, of Thy kindness, In the midst of Thy temple,
Suscepimus Deus misericordiam tuam, in medio templi tui.
10 As [is] Thy name, O God, so [is] Thy praise, Over the ends of the earth, Righteousness hath filled Thy right hand.
Secundum nomen tuum Deus, sic et laus tua in fines terrae: iustitia plena est dextera tua.
11 Rejoice doth Mount Zion, The daughters of Judah are joyful, For the sake of Thy judgments.
Laetetur mons Sion, et exultent filiae Iudae, propter iudicia tua Domine.
12 Compass Zion, and go round her, count her towers,
Circumdate Sion, et complectimini eam: narrate in turribus eius.
13 Set your heart to her bulwark, Consider her high places, So that ye recount to a later generation,
Ponite corda vestra in virtute eius: et distribuite domos eius, ut enarretis in progenie altera.
14 That this God [is] our God — To the age and for ever, He — he doth lead us over death!
Quoniam hic est Deus, Deus noster in aeternum, et in saeculum saeculi: ipse reget nos in saecula.
