Psalms 140
1 To the Overseer. — A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O Jehovah, from an evil man, From one of violence Thou keepest me.
Dura Buʼaa faarfattootaatiif. Faarfannaa Daawit. Yaa Waaqayyo, namoota hamoo jalaa na baasi; namoota finciltoota
2 Who have devised evils in the heart, All the day they assemble [for] wars.
warra garaa isaanii keessatti hammina yaadanii guyyaa hunda waraana kaasan narraa eegi.
3 They sharpened their tongue as a serpent, Poison of an adder [is] under their lips. (Selah)
Isaan arraba isaanii akkuma bofaa qaratu; hadhaan buutii hidhii isaanii jala jira.
4 Preserve me, Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked, From one of violence Thou keepest me, Who have devised to overthrow my steps.
Yaa Waaqayyo, harka hamootaa narraa eegi; namoota finciltoota warra miilla koo kiyyootti galchuu yaadan jalaa na baasi.
5 The proud hid a snare for me — and cords, They spread a net by the side of the path, Snares they have set for me. (Selah)
Of tuultonni dhoksanii kiyyoo na dura kaaʼaniiru; ribuu kiyyoo isaanii diriirsaniiru; karaa koo irras kiyyoo isaanii kaaʼaniiru.
6 I have said to Jehovah, 'My God [art] Thou, Hear, Jehovah, the voice of my supplications.'
Yaa Waaqayyo, ani, “Ati Waaqa koo ti” siin nan jedha. Yaa Waaqayyo, waammata koo dhagaʼi.
7 O Jehovah, my Lord, strength of my salvation, Thou hast covered my head in the day of armour.
Yaa Waaqayyo Gooftaa, fayyisaa koo jabaa, ati guyyaa waraanaatti gaachana mataa naa taate.
8 Grant not, O Jehovah, the desires of the wicked, His wicked device bring not forth, They are high. (Selah)
Yaa Waaqayyo, akka fedhiin hamootaa fiixaan baʼu hin godhin; akka isaan of hin tuulleef, akka karoorri isaanii milkaaʼu hin godhin.
9 The chief of my surrounders, The perverseness of their lips covereth them.
Mataan warra na marsanii, hammina afaan isaaniitii baʼuun haa haguugamu.
10 They cause to fall on themselves burning coals, Into fire He doth cast them, Into deep pits — they arise not.
Barbadaan ibiddaa isaan irra haa buʼu; isaan ibiddatti illee haa darbataman; akka lammata hin kaaneefis boolla qileetti haa darbataman.
11 A talkative man is not established in the earth, One of violence — evil hunteth to overflowing.
Maqa balleessitoonni lafa irra hin jiraatin; namni jalʼaan waan hamaadhaan haa badu.
12 I have known that Jehovah doth execute The judgment of the afflicted, The judgment of the needy.
Waaqayyo rakkattootaaf falmee hiyyeeyyiif illee murtii qajeelaa akka kennu ani beeka.
13 Only — the righteous give thanks to Thy name, The upright do dwell with Thy presence!
Dhugumaan namni qajeelaan maqaa kee ni galateeffata; namni tolaanis fuula kee dura ni jiraata.
