Proverbs 4
1 Hear, ye sons, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding.
Słuchajcie synowie! ćwiczenia ojcowskiego, a pilnujcie, abyście umieli roztropność;
2 For good learning I have given to you, My law forsake not.
Albowiem wam naukę dobrą daję; zakonu mego nie opuszczajcie.
3 For, a son I have been to my father — tender, And an only one before my mother.
Gdybym był młodziuchnym synem u ojca mego, i jedynakiem u matki mojej,
4 And he directeth me, and he saith to me: 'Let thy heart retain my words, Keep my commands, and live.
On mię uczył, powiadając mi: Niech się chwyci powieści moich serce twoje, strzeż przytkazań moich, a będziesz żył.
5 Get wisdom, get understanding, Do not forget, nor turn away From the sayings of my mouth.
Nabywaj mądrości, nabywaj roztropności; nie zapominaj, ani się uchylaj od powieści ust moich.
6 Forsake her not, and she doth preserve thee, Love her, and she doth keep thee.
Nie opuszczaj jej, a będzie cię strzegła; rozmiłuj się jej, a zachowa cię.
7 The first thing [is] wisdom — get wisdom, And with all thy getting get understanding.
Początkiem wszystkiego jest mądrość, nabywajże mądrości, a za wzystkę majętność twoję nabywaj roztropności.
8 Exalt her, and she doth lift thee up, She honoureth thee, when thou dost embrace her.
Wywyższaj ją, a wywyższy cię, rozsławi cię, gdy ją przyjmiesz.
9 She giveth to thy head a wreath of grace, A crown of beauty she doth give thee freely.
Przyda głowie twojej wdzięczności, koroną ozdoby obdarzy cię.
10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, And years of life [are] multiplied to thee.
Słuchaj, synu mój! a przyjmij powieści moje, a rozmnożąć lata żywota.
11 In a way of wisdom I have directed thee, I have caused thee to tread in paths of uprightness.
Drogi mądrości nauczam cię; po ścieszkach prostych wiodę cię;
12 In thy walking thy step is not straitened, And if thou runnest, thou stumblest not.
Któremi gdy pójdziesz, nie będzie ściśniony chód twój; a jeźli pobieżysz, nie potkniesz sií.
13 Lay hold on instruction, do not desist, Keep her, for she [is] thy life.
Przyjmij őwiczenie, nie puszczaj się go, strzeż go; albowiem ono jest żywotem twoim.
14 Into the path of the wicked enter not, And be not happy in a way of evil doers.
Ścieszką niepobożnych nie chodź, a nie udawaj się drogą złośliwych.
15 Avoid it, pass not over into it, Turn aside from it, and pass on.
Opuść ją, nie chodź po niej; uchyl się od niej, a omiń ją.
16 For they sleep not if they do not evil, And their sleep hath been taken violently away, If they cause not [some] to stumble.
Boć oni nie zasną, aż co złego zbroją; ani się uspokoją, aż kogo do upadku przywiodą;
17 For they have eaten bread of wickedness, And wine of violence they drink.
Albowiem jedzą chleb niezbożności, a wino drapiestwa piją,
18 And the path of the righteous [is] as a shining light, Going and brightening till the day is established,
Ale ścieszka sprawiedliwych jako światłość jasna, która im dalej tem bardziej świeci, aż do dnia doskonałego.
19 The way of the wicked [is] as darkness, They have not known at what they stumble.
Droga zaś niepobożnych jest jako ciemność; nie wiedzą, o co sií otrącić mogą.
20 My son, to my words give attention, To my sayings incline thine ear,
Synu mój! słów moich pilnuj; ku powieściom moim nakłoń ucha twojego.
21 Let them not turn aside from thine eyes, Preserve them in the midst of thy heart.
Niech nie odchodzą od oczów twoich, zachowaj je w pośród serca twego.
22 For life they [are] to those finding them, And to all their flesh healing.
Albowiem żywotem są tym, którzy je znajdują, a wszystkiemu ciału ich lekarstwem.
23 Above every charge keep thy heart, For out of it [are] the outgoings of life.
Nad wszystko, czego ludzie strzegą, strzeż serca twego; bo z niego żywot pochodzi.
24 Turn aside from thee a froward mouth, And perverse lips put far from thee,
Oddal od siebie przewrotność ust, a złośliwe wargi oddal od siebie.
25 Thine eyes do look straightforward, And thine eyelids look straight before thee.
Oczy twoje niechaj na dobre rzeczy patrzą, a powieki twoje niech drogę przed tobą prostują.
26 Ponder thou the path of thy feet, And all thy ways [are] established.
Umiarkuj ścieżkę nóg twoich, aby wszystkie drogi twoje pewne były.
27 Incline not [to] the right or to the left, Turn aside thy foot from evil!
Nie uchylaj się na prawo ani na lewo; owszem, odwróć nogę twoję od złego.
