Proverbs 29
1 A man often reproved, hardening the neck, Is suddenly broken, and there is no healing.
L'homme qui étant repris roidit son cou, sera subitement brisé, sans qu'il y ait de guérison.
2 In the multiplying of the righteous the people rejoice, And in the ruling of the wicked the people sigh.
Quand les justes sont avancés, le peuple se réjouit; mais quand le méchant domine, le peuple gémit.
3 A man loving wisdom rejoiceth his father, And a friend of harlots destroyeth wealth.
L'homme qui aime la sagesse, réjouit son père; mais celui qui entretient les femmes débauchées, dissipe ses richesses.
4 A king by judgment establisheth a land, And one receiving gifts throweth it down.
Le Roi maintient le pays par le jugement; mais l'homme qui est adonné aux présents, le ruinera.
5 A man taking a portion above his neighbour, Spreadeth a net for his own steps.
L'homme qui flatte son prochain, étend le filet devant ses pas.
6 In the transgression of the evil [is] a snare, And the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
Le mal qui est au forfait de l'homme, lui est comme un piège; mais le juste chantera, et se réjouira.
7 The righteous knoweth the plea of the poor, The wicked understandeth not knowledge.
Le juste prend connaissance de la cause des pauvres; [mais] le méchant n'en prend point connaissance.
8 Men of scorning ensnare a city, And the wise turn back anger.
Les hommes moqueurs troublent la ville; mais les sages apaisent la colère.
9 A wise man is judged by the foolish man, And he hath been angry, And he hath laughed, and there is no rest.
L'homme sage contestant avec l'homme fou, soit qu'il s'émeuve, soit qu'il rie, n'aura point de repos.
10 Men of blood hate the perfect, And the upright seek his soul.
Les hommes sanguinaires ont en haine l'homme intègre, mais les hommes droits tiennent chère sa vie.
11 A fool bringeth out all his mind, And the wise till afterwards restraineth it.
Le fou pousse au-dehors toute sa passion, mais le sage la réprime, et [la renvoie] en arrière.
12 A ruler who is attending to lying words, All his ministers [are] wicked.
Tous les serviteurs d'un Prince qui prête l'oreille à la parole de mensonge, sont méchants.
13 The poor and the man of frauds have met together, Jehovah is enlightening the eyes of them both.
Le pauvre et l'homme usurier s'entre-rencontrent, et l'Eternel illumine les yeux de tous deux.
14 a king that is judging truly the poor, His throne for ever is established.
Le trône du Roi qui fait justice selon la vérité aux pauvres, sera établi à perpétuité.
15 A rod and reproof give wisdom, And a youth let away is shaming his mother.
La verge et la répréhension donnent la sagesse; mais l'enfant abandonné à lui-même fait honte à sa mère.
16 In the multiplying of the wicked transgression multiplieth, And the righteous on their fall do look.
Quand les méchants sont avancés, les forfaits se multiplient; mais les justes verront leur ruine.
17 Chastise thy son, and he giveth thee comfort, Yea, he giveth delights to thy soul.
Corrige ton enfant, et il te mettra en repos, et il donnera du plaisir à ton âme.
18 Without a Vision is a people made naked, And whoso is keeping the law, O his happiness!
Lorsqu'il n'y a point de vision, le peuple est abandonné; mais bienheureux est celui qui garde la Loi.
19 By words a servant is not instructed though he understand, And there is nothing answering.
Le serviteur ne se corrige point par des paroles; car il entendra, et ne répondra point.
20 Thou hast seen a man hasty in his words! More hope of a fool than of him.
As-tu vu un homme précipité en ses paroles? il y a plus d'espérance d'un fou que de lui.
21 Whoso is bringing up his servant delicately, from youth, [At] his latter end also he is continuator.
Le serviteur sera enfin fils de celui qui l'élève délicatement dès sa jeunesse.
22 An angry man stirreth up contention, And a furious man is multiplying transgression.
L'homme colère excite les querelles, et l'homme furieux [commet] plusieurs forfaits.
23 The pride of man humbleth him, And humility of spirit upholdeth honour.
L'orgueil de l'homme l'abaisse, mais celui qui est humble d'esprit obtient la gloire.
24 Whoso is sharing with a thief is hating his own soul, Execration he heareth, and telleth not.
Celui qui partage avec le larron, hait son âme; il entend le serment d'exécration, et il ne le décèle point.
25 Fear of man causeth a snare, And the confident in Jehovah is set on high.
L'effroi que conçoit un homme, lui tend un piège; mais celui qui s'assure en l'Eternel aura une haute retraite.
26 Many are seeking the face of a ruler, And from Jehovah [is] the judgment of each.
Plusieurs recherchent la face de celui qui domine; mais c'est de l'Eternel que vient le jugement qu'on donne touchant quelqu'un.
27 An abomination to the righteous [is] the perverse man, And an abomination to the wicked [is] the upright in the way!
L'homme inique est en abomination aux justes; et celui qui va droit, est en abomination au méchant.
