Proverbs 22
1 A name is chosen rather than much wealth, Than silver and than gold — good grace.
Tener una buena reputación es mejor que tener mucho dinero. El respeto es mejor que la plata y que el oro.
2 Rich and poor have met together, The Maker of them all [is] Jehovah.
Los ricos y los pobres tienen algo en común: el Señor es su creador.
3 The prudent hath seen the evil, and is hidden, And the simple have passed on, and are punished.
Si eres prudente, verás venir el peligro y te apartarás; pero los necios siguen sin cuidado y sufren las consecuencias.
4 The end of humility [is] the fear of Jehovah, Riches, and honour, and life.
Si eres humilde y respetas al Señor, tu recompense será la riqueza, el honor y la vida.
5 Thorns — snares [are] in the way of the perverse, Whoso is keeping his soul is far from them.
Solo hay espinas y trampas en el camino de los corruptos. Los que estiman sus vidas se mantendrán lejos de ellos.
6 Give instruction to a youth about his way, Even when he is old he turneth not from it.
Enseña a los niños el modo correcto de vivir, y cuando crezcan, seguirán viviendo en rectitud.
7 The rich over the poor ruleth, And a servant [is] the borrower to the lender.
El rico gobierna al pobre, y los que piden dinero prestado son esclavos de los prestamistas.
8 Whoso is sowing perverseness reapeth sorrow, And the rod of his anger weareth out.
Los que siembran injusticia, cosecharán desastre. Y los golpes que dan a otros, cesarán.
9 The good of eye — he is blessed, For he hath given of his bread to the poor.
Si eres generoso, serás bendecido por compartir tu comida con los necesitados.
10 Cast out a scorner — and contention goeth out, And strife and shame cease.
Deshazte de los burlones y acabarás con el conflicto. Entonces no habrá discusiones ni insultos.
11 Whoso is loving cleanness of heart, Grace [are] his lips, a king [is] his friend.
Todo el que estima la sinceridad y habla con cortesía, tendrá al rey como amigo.
12 The eyes of Jehovah have kept knowledge, And He overthroweth the words of the treacherous.
El Señor cuida del conocimiento, pero se opone a las palabras de los mentirosos.
13 The slothful hath said, 'A lion [is] without, In the midst of the broad places I am slain.'
Los perezosos dicen: “Hay un león allá afuera. ¡Si salgo podría morir!”
14 A deep pit [is] the mouth of strange women, The abhorred of Jehovah falleth there.
Las palabras seductoras de una mujer inmoral son como una trampa peligrosa. Si el Señor está enojado contigo, caerás en la trampa.
15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a youth, The rod of chastisement putteth it far from him.
Los niños son ignorantes por naturaleza. La corrección física les ayudará a entrar en razón.
16 He is oppressing the poor to multiply to him, He is giving to the rich — only to want.
Si oprimes al pobre para hacerte rico, o si eres generoso con el rico, terminarás siendo pobre tú mismo.
17 Incline thine ear, and hear words of the wise, And thy heart set to my knowledge,
Atiende y escucha las palabras de los sabios. Medita cuidadosamente en mis enseñanzas,
18 For they are pleasant when thou dost keep them in thy heart, They are prepared together for thy lips.
porque es bueno que guardes estas palabras en tu mente para que estés listo para compartirlas.
19 That thy trust may be in Jehovah, I caused thee to know to-day, even thou.
Hoy te explico hoy para que confíes en el Señor. ¡Sí, a ti!
20 Have I not written to thee three times With counsels and knowledge?
¿Acaso no he escrito para ti treinta consejos de sabiduría?
21 To cause thee to know the certainty of sayings of truth, To return sayings of truth to those sending thee.
Son para aclararte lo recto y verdadero, a fin de que puedas dar una explicación veraz a aquellos a que te enviaron.
22 Rob not the poor because he [is] poor, And bruise not the afflicted in the gate.
Pues no debes robarle al pobre solo porque es pobre; y no deberías sofocar en la corte a los de menos recursos,
23 For Jehovah pleadeth their cause, And hath spoiled the soul of their spoilers.
porque el Señor peleará su caso, y recuperará lo que les hayan robado.
24 Shew not thyself friendly with an angry man, And with a man of fury go not in,
No te hagas amigo de quien se enoja fácilmente. No se asocies con personas irascibles,
25 Lest thou learn his paths, And have received a snare to thy soul.
para que no aprendas a ser como ellos y no destruyas tu vida.
26 Be not thou among those striking hands, Among sureties [for] burdens.
No te comprometas con apretón de manos a ser fiador de otro,
27 If thou hast nothing to pay, Why doth he take thy bed from under thee?
porque si no puedes pagar, ¿por qué tendrían que embargar tu cama?
28 Remove not a border of olden times, That thy fathers have made.
No muevas los hitos fronterizos que establecieron tus antepasados.
29 Hast thou seen a man speedy in his business? Before kings he doth station himself, He stations not himself before obscure men!
Si ves a alguien con talento en su trabajo, notarás que trabajará para reyes y no para la gente común.
