< Proverbs 14 >
1 Every wise woman hath builded her house, And the foolish with her hands breaketh it down.
ʻOku langa hake hono fale ʻe he fefine kotoa pē ʻoku poto: ka ʻoku holoki hifo ia ʻe he vale ʻaki hono nima.
2 Whoso is walking in his uprightness is fearing Jehovah, And the perverted [in] his ways is despising Him.
Ko ia ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ʻi heʻene angatonu ʻoku manavahē ia kia Sihova: ka ko ia ʻoku pikopiko ʻi hono ngaahi hala ʻoku ne fehiʻa kiate ia.
3 In the mouth of a fool [is] a rod of pride, And the lips of the wise preserve them.
ʻOku ai ʻae vaʻa ʻoe laukau ʻi he ngutu ʻoe vale: ka ʻoku fakamoʻui ʻae poto ʻe honau loungutu.
4 Without oxen a stall [is] clean, And great [is] the increase by the power of the ox.
ʻI he potu ʻoku ʻikai ai ha fanga pulu ʻoku maʻa ai ʻae ʻaiʻanga kai: ka ʻoku ai ʻae tupu lahi ʻi he mālohi ʻoe pulu.
5 A faithful witness lieth not, And a false witness breatheth out lies.
ʻE ʻikai faʻa loi ʻae fakamoʻoni angatonu: ka ʻe lea loi pe ʻae fakamoʻoni loi.
6 A scorner hath sought wisdom, and it is not, And knowledge to the intelligent [is] easy.
ʻOku kumi ʻae poto ʻe he manuki, ka ʻoku ʻikai te ne ʻilo ia: ka ʻoku maʻungofua ʻae poto kiate ia ʻoku fakakaukau.
7 Go from before a foolish man, Or thou hast not known the lips of knowledge.
ʻAlu atu mei he ʻao ʻoe tangata vale, ʻoka ke ka mamata ʻoku ʻikai ʻiate ia ʻae loungutu ʻoe poto.
8 The wisdom of the prudent [is] to understand his way, And the folly of fools [is] deceit.
Ko e poto eni ʻae fakamākukanga ke ne ʻilo pe hono hala: ka ko e vaʻinga ʻae vale ko e kākā ia.
9 Fools mock at a guilt-offering, And among the upright — a pleasing thing.
ʻOku manukiʻi ʻae angahala ʻe he kakai vale: ka ʻoku ai ʻae lelei ʻi he haʻohaʻonga ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
10 The heart knoweth its own bitterness, And with its joy a stranger doth not intermeddle.
ʻOku ʻilo ʻe he loto ʻa ʻene mamahi ʻaʻana: pea ʻoku ʻikai ke kau ha taha kehe ʻi heʻene fiefia.
11 The house of the wicked is destroyed, And the tent of the upright flourisheth.
ʻE holoki hifo ʻae fale ʻoe angahala: ka ʻe maʻu pe ʻae lelei ʻi he fale fehikitaki ʻoe angatonu.
12 There is a way — right before a man, And its latter end [are] ways of death.
ʻOku ai ʻae hala ʻoku matamata totonu ki he tangata, ka ko hono ngataʻanga ko e ngaahi hala ʻoe mate.
13 Even in laughter is the heart pained, And the latter end of joy [is] affliction.
ʻI he lolotonga ʻae kata, ʻoku mamahi ai ʻae loto: pea ko e ikuʻanga ʻoe vākē ko ia ko e māfasia.
14 From his ways is the backslider in heart filled, And a good man — from his fruits.
ʻE fakafonu ʻaia ʻoku fakaholomui ʻi loto ʻaki hono ngaahi hala ʻoʻona: pea ʻe mākona ʻae tangata angalelei meiate ia pe.
15 The simple giveth credence to everything, And the prudent attendeth to his step.
ʻOku tui ʻe he taʻepoto ki he lea kotoa pē: ka ʻoku tokanga lahi ʻaia ʻoku anga fakapotopoto ki heʻene ʻalu.
16 The wise is fearing and turning from evil, And a fool is transgressing and is confident.
ʻOku manavahē ʻae tangata poto, ʻo ne fakamamaʻo mei he kovi: ka ʻoku fakalili ʻae vale, mo faʻa polepole.
17 Whoso is short of temper doth folly, And a man of wicked devices is hated.
ʻOku fai vale ia ʻaia ʻoku ʻita vave: pea ʻoku tupu ʻae fehiʻa ki he tangata ʻoku filioʻi kovi.
18 The simple have inherited folly, And the prudent are crowned [with] knowledge.
ʻOku maʻu ʻe he fakavalevale ʻae vale: ka ʻoku tatā ʻaki ʻae poto ʻaia ʻoku fakamākukanga.
19 The evil have bowed down before the good, And the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
ʻOku punou ʻae angakovi ʻi he ʻao ʻoe angalelei: pea mo e angahala ʻi he matapā ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
20 Even of his neighbour is the poor hated, And those loving the rich [are] many.
ʻOku fehiʻanekina ʻae tangata masiva ʻe hono kaungāʻapi: ka ʻoku toko lahi ʻakinautolu ʻoku ʻofa ki he koloaʻia.
21 Whoso is despising his neighbour sinneth, Whoso is favouring the humble, O his happiness.
Ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ki hono kaungāʻapi ko e fai hala ia: ka ʻoku monūʻia ia ʻaia ʻoku angaʻofa ki he masiva.
22 Do not they err who are devising evil? And kindness and truth [are] to those devising good,
ʻIkai ʻoku hē ʻakinautolu ʻoku filioʻi kovi? Ka ʻe ʻoe kakai ʻoku filioʻi lelei ʻae ʻaloʻofa mo e moʻoni.
23 In all labour there is advantage, And a thing of the lips [is] only to want.
ʻOku ai hono ʻaonga ʻoe ngāue kotoa pē: ka ko e faʻa lea ʻae loungutu ʻoku tupu ai ʻae masiva.
24 The crown of the wise is their wealth, The folly of fools [is] folly.
Ko e koloa ʻae poto ko honau tatā ia: ka ko e fai vale ʻae vale ko honau vale ia.
25 A true witness is delivering souls, And a deceitful one breatheth out lies.
ʻOku fakamoʻui ʻae ngaahi laumālie ʻe he fakamoʻoni ʻoku moʻoni: ka ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae loi ʻe he fakamoʻoni loi.
26 In the fear of Jehovah [is] strong confidence, And to His sons there is a refuge.
ʻOku ai ʻae falala mālohi ʻi he manavahē kia Sihova: pea ʻe maʻu ʻe heʻene fānau ʻae potu hūfanga.
27 The fear of Jehovah [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.
Ko e manavahē kia Sihova ko e matavai ia ʻoe moʻui, ke tau hao ai mei he ngaahi tauhele ʻoe mate.
28 In the multitude of a people [is] the honour of a king, And in lack of people the ruin of a prince.
ʻOku ongoongo lahi ha tuʻi ʻi he toko lahi ʻo hono kakai: ka ko e masiva kakai ko e vaivaiʻanga ia ʻoe houʻeiki.
29 Whoso is slow to anger [is] of great understanding, And whoso is short in temper is exalting folly.
ʻOku poto lahi ia ʻaia ʻoku fakatuotuai ʻene ʻita: ka ko ia ʻoku ʻoho vave hono loto ʻoku fakahikihiki ʻe ia ʻae vale.
30 A healed heart [is] life to the flesh, And rottenness to the bones [is] envy.
Ko e loto angamalū ko e moʻui ia ʻae kakano: ka koe meheka koe fakapopo ia ʻoe ngaahi hui.
31 An oppressor of the poor reproacheth his Maker, And whoso is honouring Him Is favouring the needy.
Ko ia ʻoku fakamālohiʻi ʻae masiva ʻoku manukiʻi ʻe ia ʻa hono Tupuʻanga: ka ko ia ʻoku fakaʻapaʻapa kiate ia, ʻoku angaʻofa ia ki he masiva.
32 In his wickedness is the wicked driven away, And trustful in his death [is] the righteous.
ʻOku kapusi atu ʻae angakovi ʻi heʻene angahala: ka ʻoku maʻu ʻe he māʻoniʻoni ʻae ʻamanaki lelei ʻi heʻene mate.
33 In the heart of the intelligent wisdom doth rest. And in the midst of fools it is known.
ʻOku nofo ʻae poto ʻi he loto ʻo ia ʻoku maʻu ʻae faʻa ʻilo: ka ʻoku fakahā mai ʻaia ʻoku ʻi he loto ʻoe kakai vale.
34 Righteousness exalteth a nation, And the goodliness of peoples [is] a sin-offering.
ʻOku hiki hake ʻe he māʻoniʻoni ʻae puleʻanga. ka ko e meʻa fakamā ʻae angahala ki he ngaahi puleʻanga.
35 The favour of a king [is] to a wise servant, And an object of his wrath is one causing shame!
