< Proverbs 10 >
1 Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son causeth a father to rejoice, And a foolish son [is] an affliction to his mother.
The parablis of Salomon. A wijs sone makith glad the fadir; but a fonned sone is the sorewe of his modir.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit not, And righteousness delivereth from death.
Tresouris of wickidnesse schulen not profite; but riytfulnesse schal delyuere fro deth.
3 Jehovah causeth not the soul of the righteous to hunger, And the desire of the wicked He thrusteth away.
The Lord schal not turmente the soule of a iust man with hungur; and he schal distrie the tresouns of vnpitouse men.
4 Poor [is] he who is working — a slothful hand, And the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
A slow hond hath wrouyt nedynesse; but the hond of stronge men makith redi richessis. Forsothe he that enforsith to gete `ony thing bi leesyngis, fedith the wyndis; sotheli the same man sueth briddis fleynge.
5 Whoso is gathering in summer [is] a wise son, Whoso is sleeping in harvest [is] a son causing shame.
He that gaderith togidere in heruest, is a wijs sone; but he that slepith in sommer, is a sone of confusioun.
6 Blessings [are] for the head of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked cover doth violence.
The blessing of God is ouer the heed of a iust man; but wickidnesse hilith the mouth of wickid men.
7 The remembrance of the righteous [is] for a blessing, And the name of the wicked doth rot.
The mynde of a iust man schal be with preisingis; and the name of wickid men schal wexe rotun.
8 The wise in heart accepteth commands, And a talkative fool kicketh.
A wijs man schal resseyue comaundementis with herte; a fool is betun with lippis.
9 Whoso is walking in integrity walketh confidently, And whoso is perverting his ways is known.
He that goith simpli, goith tristili; but he that makith schrewid hise weies, schal be opyn.
10 Whoso is winking the eye giveth grief, And a talkative fool kicketh.
He that bekeneth with the iye, schal yyue sorewe; a fool schal be betun with lippis.
11 A fountain of life [is] the mouth of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked cover doth violence.
The veyne of lijf is the mouth of a iust man; but the mouth of wickid men hilith wickidnesse.
12 Hatred awaketh contentions, And over all transgressions love covereth.
Hatrede reisith chidingis; and charite hilith alle synnes.
13 In the lips of the intelligent is wisdom found, And a rod [is] for the back of him who is lacking understanding.
Wisdom is foundun in the lippis of a wise man; and a yerd in the bak of him that is nedi of herte.
14 The wise lay up knowledge, and the mouth of a fool [is] near ruin.
Wise men hiden kunnyng; but the mouth of a fool is nexte to confusioun.
15 The wealth of the rich [is] his strong city, The ruin of the poor [is] their poverty.
The catel of a riche man is the citee of his strengthe; the drede of pore men is the nedynesse of hem.
16 The wage of the righteous [is] for life, The increase of the wicked for sin.
The werk of a iust man is to lijf; but the fruyt of a wickid man is to synne.
17 A traveller to life [is] he who is keeping instruction, And whoso is forsaking rebuke is erring.
The weie of lijf is to him that kepith chastising; but he that forsakith blamyngis, errith.
18 Whoso is covering hatred with lying lips, And whoso is bringing out an evil report is a fool.
False lippis hiden hatrede; he that bringith forth dispisinge is vnwijs.
19 In the abundance of words transgression ceaseth not, And whoso is restraining his lips [is] wise.
Synne schal not faile in myche spekyng; but he that mesurith hise lippis, is moost prudent.
20 The tongue of the righteous [is] chosen silver, The heart of the wicked — as a little thing.
Chosun siluer is the tunge of a iust man; the herte of wickid men is for nouyt.
21 The lips of the righteous delight many, And fools for lack of heart die.
The lippis of a iust man techen ful manye men; but thei that ben vnlerned, schulen die in nedinesse of herte.
22 The blessing of Jehovah — it maketh rich, And He addeth no grief with it.
The blessing of the Lord makith riche men; and turment schal not be felowschipid to hem.
23 To execute inventions [is] as play to a fool, And wisdom to a man of understanding.
A fool worchith wickidnesse as bi leiyyng; but `wisdom is prudence to a man.
24 The feared thing of the wicked it meeteth him, And the desire of the righteous is given.
That that a wickid man dredith, schal come on hym; the desire of iust men schalbe youun to hem.
25 As the passing by of a hurricane, So the wicked is not, And the righteous is a foundation age-during.
As a tempeste passynge, a wickid man schal not be; but a iust man schal be as an euerlastynge foundement.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, And as smoke to the eyes, So [is] the slothful to those sending him.
As vynegre noieth the teeth, and smoke noieth the iyen; so a slow man noieth hem that senten hym in the weie.
27 The fear of Jehovah addeth days, And the years of the wicked are shortened.
The drede of the Lord encreesith daies; and the yeeris of wickid men schulen be maad schort.
28 The hope of the righteous [is] joyful, And the expectation of the wicked perisheth.
Abiding of iust men is gladnesse; but the hope of wickid men schal perische.
29 The way of Jehovah [is] strength to the perfect, And ruin to workers of iniquity.
The strengthe of a symple man is the weie of the Lord; and drede to hem that worchen yuel.
30 The righteous to the age is not moved, And the wicked inhabit not the earth.
A iust man schal not be moued with outen ende; but wickid men schulen not dwelle on the erthe.
31 The mouth of the righteous uttereth wisdom, And the tongue of frowardness is cut out.
The mouth of a iust man schal bringe forth wisdom; the tunge of schrewis schal perische.
32 The lips of the righteous know a pleasing thing, And the mouth of the wicked perverseness!
The lippis of a iust man biholden pleasaunt thingis; and the mouth of wickid men byholdith weiward thingis.
