< Numbers 35 >
1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, in the plains of Moab, by Jordan, [near] Jericho, saying,
OLELO mai la o Iehova ia Mose ma na papu o Moaba, ma Ioredane o Ieriko, i mai la,
2 'Command the sons of Israel, and they have given to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to inhabit; also a suburb for the cities round about them ye do give to the Levites.
E kauoha aku oe i na mamo a Iseraela, e haawi aku lakou i kekahi aina o lakou e ili ana, no na Levi, i na kulanakauhale e noho ai; a e haawi hoi no na Levi i na kula o na kulanakauhale a puni.
3 And the cities have been to them to inhabit, and their suburbs are for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.
A no lakou na kulanakauhale e noho ai iloko; a o na kula a puni, no ka lakou holoholona ia, no ko lakou waiwai, a no ko lakou mau mea ola a pau.
4 'And the suburbs of the cities which ye give to the Levites [are], from the wall of the city and without, a thousand cubits round about.
A o na kula o na kulanakauhale a oukou e haawi aku ai no na Levi, mai ka papohaku o ke kulanakauhale mawaho aku, i hookahi tausani na kubita.
5 And ye have measured from the outside of the city, the east quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the north quarter, two thousand by the cubit; and the city [is] in the midst; this is to them the suburbs of the cities.
A e ana oukou mai waho aku o ke kulanakauhale ma ka aoao hikina, i elua tausani kubita, a ma ka aoao hema i elua tausani kubita, a ma ka aoao komohana i elua tausani kubita, a ma ka aoao akau i elua tausani kubita; a mawaena konu ko kulanakauhale: oia no ia lakou na kela o na kulanakauhale.
6 'And the cities which ye give to the Levites [are] the six cities of refuge, which ye give for the fleeing thither of the man-slayer, and besides them ye give forty and two cities;
A no na kulanakauhale a oukou e haawi aku ai no na Levi, he aono mau kulanakauhale e lilo i mau puuhonua, kahi a oukou e haawi ai no ka pepehi kanaka, e holo ai ia ilaila; a e haawi hou aku oukou i na kulanakauhale keu he kanaha kumamalua.
7 all the cities which ye give to the Levites [are] forty and eight cities, them and their suburbs.
O na kulanakauhale a pau a oukou e haawi aku ai no na Levi, he kanahakumamawalu: o lakou a me na kula o lakou.
8 And the cities which ye give [are] of the possession of the sons of Israel, from the many ye multiply, and from the few ye diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, doth give of his cities to the Levites.'
A o na kulanakauhale a oukou e haawi aku ai, noloko mai ia o ka aina o na mamo a Iseraela; noloko mai o ka mea nui, e hoonui aku oukou, a noloko mai o ka mea uuku, e houuku iho no oukou: o kela mea keia mea ke haawi i kekahi mau kulanakauhale ona no na Levi, e like me ka aina e ili mai ana nona.
9 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
Olelo mai la o Iehova ia Mose, i mai la,
10 'Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou hast said unto them, When ye are passing over the Jordan to the land of Canaan,
E olelo aku oe i na mamo a Iseraela, e i aku ia lakou, Aia hiki aku oukou ma kela aoao o Ioredane iloko o ka aina o Kanaana;
11 and have prepared to yourselves cities — cities of refuge they are to you — then fled thither hath a man-slayer, smiting a person unawares,
Alaila, e hoolilo oukou i na kulanakauhalo, i kulanakauhale puuhonua no oukou, i holo aku ai ka mea pepehi kanaka ilaila, ka mea pepehi naaupo i ke kanaka.
12 and the cities have been to you for a refuge from the redeemer, and the man-slayer doth not die till his standing before the company for judgment.
A e lilo lakou i mau kulanakauhale puuhonua no oukou, mai ka mea hoopai aku; i make ole ai ka mea pepehi kanaka, a ku ia imua o ke anainakauaka no ka hookolokolo ana.
13 'As to the cities which ye give — six [are] cities of refuge to you;
No keia mau kulanakauhale a oukou o haawi aku ai, e lilo na mea eono i mau puuhonua no oukou.
14 the three of the cities ye give beyond the Jordan, and the three of the cities ye give in the land of Canaan; cities of refuge they are.
E haawi aku oukou i ekolu mau kulanakauhale ma keia aoao o Ioredane, a me na kulanakauhale ekolu ka oukou e haawi aku ai ma ka aina o Kanaana, i mau kulanakauhale puuhonua.
15 To sons of Israel, and to a sojourner, and to a settler in their midst, are these six cities for a refuge, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting a person unawares.
O keia mau kulanakauhale eono, he mau puuhonua ia no na mamo a Iseraela, a no ke kanaka e, a no ka malihini iwaena o lakou; i holo aku ai ilaila ka mea pepehi naaupo i kekahi kanaka.
16 'And if with an instrument of iron he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
Ina e pepehi aku oia ia ia me ka mea hao, a make ia, he pepehi kanaka oia; he oiaio no, e make ka pepehi kanaka.
17 'And if with a stone [in] the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
Ina hoi e pepehi aku oia ia ia me ka pohaku nouia, ka mea e make ai ia, a ua make no kela, he pepehi kanaka oia; he oiaio no, e make ka pepehi kanaka.
18 'Or with a wooden instrument [in] the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
Ina hoi o pepehi kela ia ia me ka laau ma ka lima, i mea e make ai oia, a ua make no ia, hepepehi kanaka no kela: he oiaio no, e make ka pepehi kanaka.
19 'The redeemer of blood himself doth put the murderer to death; in his coming against him he doth put him to death.
Na ka mea hoopai koko, nana no e pepehi aku i ka mea pepehi kanaka: i kona wa e halawai aku ai me ia, nana no ia o pepehi.
20 'And if in hatred he thrust him through, or hath cast [anything] at him by lying in wait, and he dieth;
Ina paha e hookulai iho kekahi ia ia me ka inaina, a e hoolei aku paha i kekahi mea maluna ona me ka hoohalua nona, a make no ia;
21 or in enmity he hath smitten him with his hand, and he dieth; the smiter is certainly put to death; he [is] a murderer; the redeemer of blood doth put the murderer to death in his coming against him.
A ina e pepehi aku kona lima ia ia me ka inaina, a make ia; o ka mea pepehi aku, he oiaio no, e make no ia: no ka mea, he pepehi kanaka oia: na ka mea hoopai koko, nana no e pepehi i ua pepehi kanaka la, i kona halawai ana me ia.
22 'And if, in an instant, without enmity, he hath thrust him through, or hath cast at him any instrument, without lying in wait;
Aka, ina e pepehi wale aku ia me ka inaina ole, a ua hoolei aku paha i kekahi mea maluna ona, me ka hoohalua ole;
23 or with any stone wherewith he dieth, without seeing, and causeth [it] to fall upon him, and he dieth, and he [is] not his enemy, nor seeking his evil;
A i ka pohaku paha e make ai ke kanaka, me ka ike ole aku, hoolei aku maluna ona, a make ia; aole no ia o kona enemi, aole hoi ia i manao e hana ino aku ia ia:
24 then have the company judged between the smiter and the redeemer of blood, by these judgments.
Alaila, e hookolokolo ke anainakanaka mawaena o ka mea pepohi a me ka mea hoopai koko, e like me keia mau kanawai:
25 'And the company have delivered the man-slayer out of the hand of the redeemer of blood, and the company have caused him to turn back unto the city of his refuge, whither he hath fled, and he hath dwelt in it till the death of the chief priest, who hath been anointed with the holy oil.
A na ke anainakanaka no e hoopakele i ka pepehi kanaka mailoko ae o ka lima o ka mea hoopai koko, a na ke anainakanaka ia e hoihoi aku i ka puuhonua i kahi e holo aku ai oia: a malaila ia e noho ai a make ke kahuna nui, ka mea i poniia i ka aila laa.
26 'And if the man-slayer at all go out [from] the border of the city of his refuge whither he fleeth,
Aka, ina e puka aku ka pepehi kanaka i kekahi manawa mawaho o na palena o ke kulanakauhalo o kona puuhonua, kahi ana i holo ai;
27 and the redeemer of blood hath found him at the outside of the border of the city of his refuge, and the redeemer of blood hath slain the man-slayer, blood is not for him;
A loaa oia i ka hoopai koko mawaho o ka palena o ke kulanakauhale o kona puuhonua, a pepehi ka hoopai koko i ua pepehi kanaka la, aole e pili kona koko ia ia;
28 for in the city of his refuge he doth dwell till the death of the chief priest; and after the death of the chief priest doth the man-slayer turn back unto the city of his possession.
No ka mea, o kona pono no e noho iloko o ke kulanakauhale o kona puuhonua, a hiki i ka make ana o ke kahuna nui: aka, mahope iho o ka make ana o ke kahuna nui, e hoi hou no ka pepehi kanaka i ka aina o kona noho ana.
29 'And these things have been to you for a statute of judgment to your generations, in all your dwellings:
A e lilo keia mau mea no oukou i kanawai hoopono no ko oukou mau hanauna ma na wahi a pau a oukou e noho ai.
30 whoso smiteth a person, by the mouth of witnesses doth [one] slay the murderer; and one witness doth not testify against a person — to die.
O ka mea pepehi i kekahi kanaka, e make no ia ma ka waha o na mea hoike: aole no e make ke kanaka ma ka mea hoike hookahi wale no.
31 'And ye take no atonement for the life of a murderer who [is] condemned — to die, for he is certainly put to death;
Eia hoi kekahi, aole oukou e lawe i uku panai no ke ola o ka mea pepehi kanaka, o ka mea i hewa e make ai: aka, e oiaio no, e make ua kanaka la.
32 and ye take no atonement for him to flee unto the city of his refuge, to turn back to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
Aole hoi oukou e lawe i uku panai, no ka mea i holo aku i ke kulanakauhale o kona puuhonua, i hoi hou aku ai ia e noho i ka aina, a hiki i ka make ana o ke kahuna.
33 'And ye profane not the land which ye [are] in, for blood profaneth the land; as to the land, it is not pardoned for blood which is shed in it except by the blood of him who sheddeth it;
Pela oukou e hoohaumia ole ai i ka aina a oukou e noho ai: no ka mea, o ke koko, oia ke hoohaumia i ka aina; aole e hiki ke huikalaia ka aina i ke koko i hookaheia maloko, aia wale no ma ke koko o ka mea nana ia i hookahe.
34 and ye defile not the land in which ye are dwelling, in the midst of which I do tabernacle, for I Jehovah do tabernacle in the midst of the sons of Israel.'
Nolaila, mai hoohaumia oukou i ka aina a oukou e noho ai, kahi hoi a'u e noho ai; no ka mea, owau o Iehova e noho nei iwaena o ka poe mamo a Iseraela.
