Numbers 20
1 And the sons of Israel come in, — all the company — to the wilderness of Zin, in the first month, and the people abide in Kadesh, and Miriam dieth there, and is buried there.
Et les enfants d'Israël, l'Assemblée entière, arrivèrent au désert de Tsin dans le premier mois et le peuple s'arrêta à Cadès, et là mourut Marie, et elle y reçut la sépulture.
2 And there hath been no water for the company, and they are assembled against Moses, and against Aaron,
Et il n'y avait point d'eau pour l'Assemblée; et ils s'attroupèrent contre Moïse et contre Aaron.
3 and the people strive with Moses, and speak, saying, 'And oh that we had expired when our brethren expired before Jehovah!
Et le peuple querella Moïse; et ils tenaient ces discours: Si au moins nous avions péri, comme périrent nos frères devant l'Éternel!
4 and why have ye brought in the assembly of Jehovah unto this wilderness to die there, we and our beasts?
Pourquoi avez-vous amené l'Assemblée de l'Éternel dans ce désert, pour que nous y mourions nous et nos bestiaux?
5 and why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to bring us in unto this evil place? no place of seed, and fig, and vine, and pomegranate; and water there is none to drink.
Et pourquoi nous avez-vous fait sortir de l'Egypte pour nous amener dans cette méchante contrée, contrée où l'on ne peut semer, ni avoir figuiers, vignes et grenadiers, et où il n'y a point d'eau à boire?
6 And Moses and Aaron go in from the presence of the assembly unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and fall on their faces, and the honour of Jehovah is seen by them.
Alors Moïse et Aaron quittant l'Assemblée vinrent à l'entrée de la Tente du Rendez-vous, et se jetèrent la face contre terre, et la Gloire de l'Éternel leur apparut.
7 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
8 'Take the rod, and assemble the company, thou and Aaron thy brother; and ye have spoken unto the rock before their eyes, and it hath given its water, and thou hast brought out to them water from the rock, and hast watered the company, and their beasts.'
Prends le bâton et convoque l'Assemblée, toi et Aaron, ton frère, et parlez au rocher en leur présence, pour qu'il vous donne son eau, et ainsi, fais-leur jaillir de l'eau du rocher et abreuve l'Assemblée et ses bestiaux.
9 And Moses taketh the rod from before Jehovah, as He hath commanded him,
Et Moïse prit le bâton de devant l'Éternel, comme Il le lui avait commandé.
10 and Moses and Aaron assemble the assembly unto the front of the rock, and he saith to them, 'Hear, I pray you, O rebels, from this rock do we bring out to you water?'
Et Moïse et Aaron convoquèrent l'Assemblée en face du rocher, et il leur dit: Écoutez donc, réfractaires! de ce rocher vous ferons-nous bien jaillir de l'eau?
11 and Moses lifteth up his hand, and smiteth the rock with his rod twice; and much water cometh out, and the company drink, also their beasts.
Et Moïse leva la main et frappa le rocher avec son bâton, à deux reprises; et l'eau jaillit avec abondance, et l'Assemblée et son bétail se désaltérèrent.
12 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, and unto Aaron, 'Because ye have not believed in Me to sanctify Me before the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore ye do not bring in this assembly unto the land which I have given to them.'
Mais l'Éternel dit à Moïse et Aaron: Parce que vous n'avez pas eu foi en moi pour manifester ma Sainteté aux yeux des enfants d'Israël, pour cette raison-là vous n'introduirez pas cette Assemblée dans le pays que je veux lui donner.
13 These [are] waters of Meribah, because the sons of Israel have 'striven' with Jehovah, and He is sanctified upon them.
Ce sont les eaux de la querelle, pour lesquelles les enfants d'Israël querellèrent l'Éternel qui leur manifesta sa Sainteté.
14 And Moses sendeth messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, 'Thus said thy brother Israel, Thou — thou hast known all the travail which hath found us;
Et Moïse envoya des messagers de Cadès au Roi d'Edom: Ainsi parle ton frère Israël: Tu connais toutes les tribulations qui nous ont atteints,
15 that our fathers go down to Egypt, and we dwell in Egypt many days, and the Egyptians do evil to us and to our fathers;
la descente de nos pères en Egypte, le long séjour que nous y fîmes, et les mauvais traitements que nous reçûmes des Égyptiens nous et nos pères;
16 and we cry unto Jehovah, and He heareth our voice, and sendeth a messenger, and is bringing us out of Egypt; and lo, we [are] in Kadesh, a city [in] the extremity of thy border.
mais nous criâmes à l'Éternel, et Il entendit notre voix, et Il envoya un Ange et nous tira de l'Egypte; et nous voici à Cadès, ville à ton extrême frontière.
17 Let us pass over, we pray thee, through thy land; we pass not over through a field, or through a vineyard, nor do we drink waters of a well; the way of the king we go, we turn not aside — right or left — till that we pass over thy border.'
Accorde-nous donc le passage à travers ton pays; nous ne traverserons ni champs, ni vignes, et ne boirons point l'eau des puits; nous prendrons la route royale sans dévier ni à droite ni à gauche, jusqu'à ce que nous ayons traversé ton territoire.
18 And Edom saith unto him, 'Thou dost not pass over through me, lest with sword I come out to meet thee.'
Mais Edom leur dit: Tu ne passeras point chez moi, sinon j'irai au-devant de toi avec l'épée.
19 And the sons of Israel say unto him, 'In the highway we go, and if of thy waters we drink — I and my cattle — then I have given their price; only (it is nothing) on my feet I pass over.'
Et les enfants d'Israël lui dirent: Nous cheminerons sur la chaussée, et si nous buvons ton eau, moi et mes troupeaux, je te la paierai; seulement (et ce n'est rien) laisse-moi passer de mes pieds.
20 And he saith, 'Thou dost not pass over;' and Edom cometh out to meet him with much people, and with a strong hand;
Et Edom dit: Tu ne passeras pas.
21 and Edom refuseth to suffer Israel to pass over through his border, and Israel turneth aside from off him.
Et Edom vint à leur rencontre avec des troupes nombreuses et à main forte. C'est ainsi que Edom refusa à Israël le passage sur son territoire, et Israël se détourna de lui.
22 And the sons of Israel, the whole company, journey from Kadesh, and come in unto mount Hor,
Et les enfants d'Israël, l'Assemblée entière, partirent de Cadès et arrivèrent au mont Hor.
23 and Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron in mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying,
Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse et Aaron, au mont Hor sur la frontière du pays d'Edom:
24 'Aaron is gathered unto his people, for he doth not go in unto the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because that ye provoked My mouth at the waters of Meribah.
Aaron va être recueilli auprès de son peuple; car il n'entrera pas dans le pays que je donne aux enfants d'Israël, parce que vous avez été rebelles à mes ordres aux Eaux de la querelle.
25 'Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and cause them to go up mount Hor,
Prends Aaron et Eléazar, son fils, et les mène sur le mont Hor;
26 and strip Aaron of his garments, and thou hast clothed [with] them Eleazar his son, and Aaron is gathered, and doth die there.'
et là ôte à Aaron son costume et en revêts Eléazar, son fils; et Aaron sera recueilli et mourra là.
27 And Moses doth as Jehovah hath commanded, and they go up unto mount Hor before the eyes of all the company,
Et Moïse se conforma à l'ordre de l'Éternel, et ils montèrent sur le mont Hor à la vue de toute l'Assemblée.
28 and Moses strippeth Aaron of his garments, and clotheth with them Eleazar his son, and Aaron dieth there on the top of the mount; and Moses cometh down — Eleazar also — from the mount,
Et Moïse ôta à Aaron son costume et en revêtit Eléazar, son fils, et Aaron mourut là au sommet de la montagne, et Moïse et Eléazar redescendirent de la montagne.
29 and all the company see that Aaron hath expired, and they bewail Aaron thirty days — all the house of Israel.
Et quand l'Assemblée vit que Aaron avait expiré, toute la maison d'Israël pleura Aaron pendant trente jours.
