Numbers 13
1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
সদাপ্রভু মোশিকে বললেন,
2 'Send for thee men, and they spy the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the sons of Israel; one man, one man for the tribe of his fathers ye do send, every one a prince among them.'
“আমি ইস্রায়েলীদের যে দেশ দিতে চাই, সেই কনানের ভূমি নিরীক্ষণ করতে কয়েকজন ব্যক্তিকে পাঠাও। প্রত্যেক পিতৃ-গোষ্ঠীর নেতৃবৃন্দ থেকে একজন করে পাঠাও।”
3 And Moses sendeth them from the wilderness of Paran by the command of Jehovah; all of them [are] men, heads of the sons of Israel they are,
অতএব মোশি সদাপ্রভুর আদেশ অনুসারে, তাদের পারণ প্রান্তর থেকে পাঠালেন। তাঁরা প্রত্যেকেই ইস্রায়েলীদের নেতা ছিলেন।
4 and these their names: For the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur.
এই তাঁদের নাম: রূবেণ গোষ্ঠী থেকে সক্কুরের ছেলে শম্মূয়;
5 For the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori.
শিমিয়োন গোষ্ঠী থেকে হোরির ছেলে শাফট;
6 For the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh.
যিহূদা গোষ্ঠী থেকে যিফূন্নির ছেলে কালেব;
7 For the tribe of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph.
ইষাখর গোষ্ঠী থেকে যোষেফের ছেলে যিগাল;
8 For the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea, son of Nun.
ইফ্রয়িম গোষ্ঠী থেকে নূনের ছেলে হোশেয়;
9 For the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu.
বিন্যামীন গোষ্ঠী থেকে রাফূর ছেলে পল্টি;
10 For the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi.
সবূলূন গোষ্ঠী থেকে সোদির ছেলে গদ্দীয়েল;
11 For the tribe of Joseph, (for the tribe of Manasseh, ) Gaddi son of Susi.
মনঃশি (যোষেফের একটি গোষ্ঠী) গোষ্ঠী থেকে সূষির ছেলে গদ্দি;
12 For the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemalli.
দান গোষ্ঠী থেকে গমল্লির ছেলে অম্মীয়েল;
13 For the tribe of Asher, Sethur son of Michael.
আশের গোষ্ঠী থেকে মীখায়েলের ছেলে সথুর;
14 For the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vopshi.
নপ্তালি গোষ্ঠী থেকে বপ্সির ছেলে নহ্বি;
15 For the tribe of Gad, Geuel son of Machi.
গাদ গোষ্ঠী থেকে মাখির ছেলে গ্যূয়েল।
16 These [are] the names of the men whom Moses hath sent to spy the land; and Moses calleth Hoshea son of Nun, Jehoshua.
মোশি যে ব্যক্তিদের দেশ নিরীক্ষণ করতে পাঠিয়েছিলেন, তাঁদের নামগুলি এই। (মোশি নূনের ছেলে হোশেয়ের নাম রাখলেন যিহোশূয়।)
17 And Moses sendeth them to spy the land of Canaan, and saith unto them, 'Go ye up this [way] into the south, and ye have gone up the mountain,
কনান নিরীক্ষণ করতে পাঠানোর সময় মোশি তাঁদের বললেন, “নেগেভের মধ্য দিয়ে উঠে পার্বত্য অঞ্চলে গমন করবে।
18 and have seen the land what it [is], and the people which is dwelling on it, whether it [is] strong or feeble; whether it [is] few or many;
লক্ষ্য করবে, সেই দেশ কী রকম, সেখানকার লোকেরা দুর্বল না শক্তিশালী। তারা সংখ্যায় অল্প না বেশি।
19 and what the land [is] in which it is dwelling, whether it [is] good or bad; and what [are] the cities in which it is dwelling, whether in camps or in fortresses;
কোন ধরনের ভূমিতে তারা বসবাস করে? তা কী ভালো না মন্দ? কোন ধরনের নগরে তাদের নিবাস? সেগুলি প্রাচীর বিহীন না সুরক্ষিত?
20 And what the land [is], whether it [is] fat or lean; whether there is wood in it or not; and ye have strengthened yourselves, and have taken of the fruit of the land;' and the days [are] days of the first-fruits of grapes.
মাটিই বা কী রকম? উর্বর না সাধারণ? বৃক্ষসমন্বিত না বৃক্ষবিহীন? আপ্রাণ চেষ্টা কোরো, সেই দেশের কিছু ফল নিয়ে আসতে।” (তখন আঙুর পাকার সময় ছিল।)
21 And they go up and spy the land, from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob at the going in to Hamath;
অতএব তাঁরা উঠে গেলেন এবং সীন মরুভূমি থেকে রহোব পর্যন্ত, লেবো-হমাৎ অভিমুখে ভ্রমণ করলেন।
22 and they go up by the south, and come in unto Hebron, and there [are] Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, children of Anak (and Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt),
তাঁরা নেগেভ হয়ে নিরীক্ষণ করে হিব্রোণে এলেন। সেখানে অহীমান, শেশয়, ও তল্ময় নামবিশিষ্ট, অনাকের তিনজন উত্তরাধিকারী বসবাস করত। (মিশরে সোয়ন নির্মিত হওয়ার সাত বছর আগে হিব্রোণ নির্মিত হয়েছিল।)
23 and they come in unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down thence a branch and one cluster of grapes, and they bear it on a staff by two, also [some] of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
যখন তাঁরা ইষ্কোল উপত্যকায় উপস্থিত হলেন, তাঁরা দ্রাক্ষার গুচ্ছ সমন্বিত একটি শাখা কাটলেন। দুজন ব্যক্তি, একটি দণ্ডের দ্বারা সেই দ্রাক্ষাগুচ্ছ এবং কিছু বেদানা ও ডুমুর বহন করে আনলেন।
24 That place hath [one] called Brook of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut from thence.
যেহেতু দ্রাক্ষাগুচ্ছ ইস্রায়েলীরা কেটে এনেছিল, তাই সেই স্থানের নাম হল, ইষ্কোল উপত্যকা।
25 And they turn back from spying the land at the end of forty days.
চল্লিশ দিনের শেষে, তাঁরা দেশ নিরীক্ষণ করে ফিরে এলেন।
26 And they go and come in unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto all the company of the sons of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and they bring them and all the company back word, and shew them the fruit of the land.
পারণ প্রান্তরে, কাদেশে তাঁরা মোশি, হারোণ এবং সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলীদের কাছে ফিরে এলেন। সেখানে তাঁরা, তাঁদের এবং সমস্ত সম্প্রদায়কে দেশ নিরীক্ষণের বিশদ বিবরণ দিলেন ও সেই দেশের ফল তাদের দেখালেন।
27 And they recount to him, and say, 'We came in unto the land whither thou hast sent us, and also it [is] flowing with milk and honey — and this [is] its fruit;
তাঁরা মোশিকে বর্ণনা দিয়ে বললেন, “আপনি যে দেশে আমাদের পাঠিয়েছিলেন, আমরা সেখানে গিয়েছিলাম। সেই দেশ অবশ্যই দুধ ও মধু প্রবাহী! এই ফলগুলি, সেই দেশের।
28 only, surely the people which is dwelling in the land [is] strong; and the cities are fenced, very great; and also children of Anak we have seen there.
কিন্তু যারা সেখানে বসবাস করে, তারা বলিষ্ঠ, তাদের নগরগুলি সুরক্ষিত এবং বড়ো বড়ো। আমরা সেখানে অনাকের উত্তরসূরীদেরও দেখেছি।
29 Amalek is dwelling in the land of the south, and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite is dwelling in the hill country, and the Canaanite is dwelling by the sea, and by the side of the Jordan.'
নেগেভে অমালেকীয়েরা বসবাস করে; হিত্তীয়, যিবূষীয়, ইমোরীয়েরা পার্বত্য অঞ্চলে এবং কনানীয়েরা সমুদ্রের কাছে ও জর্ডন উপকূলে বসবাস করে।”
30 And Caleb stilleth the people concerning Moses, and saith, 'Let us certainly go up — and we have possessed it; for we are thoroughly able for it.'
তখন কালেব, মোশির সামনে তাঁদের শান্ত করে বলল, “আমাদের উচিত, উঠে গিয়ে সেই দেশ অধিকার করা, কারণ সেই শক্তি আমাদের অবশ্যই আছে।”
31 And the men who have gone up with him said, 'We are not able to go up against the people, for it [is] stronger than we;'
যে ব্যক্তিরা তাঁর সঙ্গে গিয়েছিলেন তাঁরা বললেন, “আমরা ওই ব্যক্তিদের আক্রমণ করতে পারি না; তারা আমাদের থেকেও বেশি শক্তিশালী।”
32 and they bring out an evil account of the land which they have spied unto the sons of Israel, saying, 'The land into which we passed over to spy it, is a land eating up its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in its midst [are] men of stature;
তাঁরা যে দেশ নিরীক্ষণ করে এসেছিলেন, সেই দেশ সম্পর্কে ইস্রায়েলীদের মধ্যে বিরূপ সংবাদ ছড়াল। তাঁরা বললেন, “যে দেশ আমরা নিরীক্ষণ করেছি সেই দেশ নিজের অধিবাসীদের গ্রাস করে। যে সমস্ত লোককে সেখানে আমরা দেখেছি তারা সবাই বৃহদাকার।
33 and there we saw the Nephilim, sons of Anak, of the Nephilim; and we are in our own eyes as grasshoppers; and so we were in their eyes.'
আমরা নেফিলীমদেরও সেখানে দেখেছি। (অনাকের উত্তরসূরিদের আগমন নেফিলিম থেকে) আমরা নিজেদের দৃষ্টিতে, সেই সঙ্গে তাদের দৃষ্টিতেও, ফড়িং-এর মতো প্রতিপন্ন হয়েছি।”
