Matthew 4
1 Then Jesus was led up to the wilderness by the Spirit, to be tempted by the Devil,
Alors Jésus fut conduit par l’Esprit dans le désert pour y être tenté par le diable.
2 and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he did hunger.
Après avoir jeûné pendant quarante jours et quarante nuits, il eut faim.
3 And the Tempter having come to him said, 'If Son thou art of God — speak that these stones may become loaves.'
Et le tentateur, s’approchant, lui dit: « Si tu es le Fils de Dieu, commande que ces pierres deviennent des pains. »
4 But he answering said, 'It hath been written, Not upon bread alone doth man live, but upon every word coming forth from the mouth of God.'
Jésus lui répondit: « Il est écrit: L’homme ne vit pas seulement de pain, mais de toute parole qui sort de la bouche de Dieu. »
5 Then doth the Devil take him to the [holy] city, and doth set him on the pinnacle of the temple,
Alors le diable le transporta dans la ville sainte, et l’ayant posé sur le pinacle du temple,
6 and saith to him, 'If Son thou art of God — cast thyself down, for it hath been written, that, His messengers He shall charge concerning thee, and on hands they shall bear thee up, that thou mayest not dash on a stone thy foot.'
il lui dit: « Si tu es le Fils de Dieu, jette-toi en bas; car il est écrit: Il a donné pour toi des ordres à ses anges, et ils te porteront dans leurs mains, de peur que ton pied ne heurte contre la pierre. »
7 Jesus said to him again, 'It hath been written, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.'
Jésus lui dit: « Il est écrit aussi: Tu ne tenteras pas le Seigneur, ton Dieu. »
8 Again doth the Devil take him to a very high mount, and doth shew to him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them,
Le diable, de nouveau, le transporta sur une montagne très élevée, et lui montrant tous les royaumes du monde, avec leur gloire,
9 and saith to him, 'All these to thee I will give, if falling down thou mayest bow to me.'
il lui dit: « Je te donnerai tout cela, si, tombant à mes pieds, tu m’adores ».
10 Then saith Jesus to him, 'Go — Adversary, for it hath been written, The Lord thy God thou shalt bow to, and Him only thou shalt serve.'
Alors Jésus lui dit: « Retire-toi, Satan; car il est écrit: Tu adoreras le Seigneur, ton Dieu, et tu ne serviras que lui seul. »
11 Then doth the Devil leave him, and lo, messengers came and were ministering to him.
Alors le diable le laissa; aussitôt des anges s’approchèrent, et ils le servaient.
12 And Jesus having heard that John was delivered up, did withdraw to Galilee,
Quand Jésus eut appris que Jean avait été mis en prison, il se retira en Galilée.
13 and having left Nazareth, having come, he dwelt at Capernaum that is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtalim,
Et laissant la ville de Nazareth, il vint demeurer à Capharnaüm, sur les bords de la mer, aux confins de Zabulon et de Nephtali,
14 that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
afin que s’accomplît cette parole du prophète Isaïe:
15 'Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations! —
« Terre de Zabulon et terre de Nephtali, qui confines à la mer, pays au-delà du Jourdain, Galilée des Gentils!
16 the people that is sitting in darkness saw a great light, and to those sitting in a region and shadow of death — light arose to them.'
Le peuple qui était assis dans les ténèbres a vu une grande lumière; et sur ceux qui étaient assis dans la région de l’ombre de la mort, la lumière s’est levée!
17 From that time began Jesus to proclaim and to say, 'Reform ye, for come nigh hath the reign of the heavens.'
Dès lors Jésus commença à prêcher, en disant: « Repentez-vous, car le royaume des cieux est proche. »
18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon named Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a drag into the sea — for they were fishers —
Comme il marchait le long de la mer de Galilée, Jésus vit deux frères, Simon, appelé Pierre, et André son frère, qui jetaient leur filet dans la mer; car ils étaient pêcheurs.
19 and he saith to them, 'Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men,'
Et il leur dit: « Suivez-moi, et je vous ferai pêcheurs d’hommes. »
20 and they, immediately, having left the nets, did follow him.
Eux aussitôt, laissant leurs filets, le suivirent.
21 And having advanced thence, he saw other two brothers, James of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, refitting their nets, and he called them,
S’avançant plus loin, il vit deux autres frères, Jacques, fils de Zébédée, et Jean son frère, dans une barque, avec leur père Zébédée, réparant leurs filets, et il les appela.
22 and they, immediately, having left the boat and their father, did follow him.
Eux aussi, laissant à l’heure même leur barque et leur père, le suivirent.
23 And Jesus was going about all Galilee teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the reign, and healing every disease, and every malady among the people,
Jésus parcourait toute la Galilée, enseignant dans leurs synagogues, prêchant l’Evangile du royaume de Dieu, et guérissant toute maladie et toute infirmité parmi le peuple.
24 and his fame went forth to all Syria, and they brought to him all having ailments, pressed with manifold sicknesses and pains, and demoniacs, and lunatics, and paralytics, and he healed them.
Sa renommée se répandit dans toute la Syrie, et on lui présentait tous les malades atteints d’infirmités et de souffrances diverses, des possédés, des lunatiques, des paralytiques, et il les guérissait.
25 And there followed him many multitudes from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
Et une grande multitude le suivit de la Galilée, de la Décapole, de Jérusalem, de la Judée et d’au delà du Jourdain.
