Malachi 3

1 Lo, I am sending My messenger, And he hath prepared a way before Me, And suddenly come in unto his temple Doth the Lord whom ye are seeking, Even the messenger of the covenant, Whom ye are desiring, Lo, he is coming, said Jehovah of Hosts.

Ecco, io vi mando il mio messaggero; egli preparerà la via davanti a me. E subito il Signore, che voi cercate, l’Angelo del patto, che voi bramate, entrerà nel suo tempio. Ecco ei viene, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti;

2 And who is bearing the day of his coming? And who is standing in his appearing? For he [is] as fire of a refiner, And as soap of a fuller.

e chi potrà sostenere il giorno della sua venuta? Chi potrà rimanere in piè quand’egli apparirà? Poich’egli è come un fuoco d’affinatore, come la potassa dei lavatori di panni.

3 And he hath sat, a refiner and purifier of silver, And he hath purified the sons of Levi, And hath refined them as gold and as silver, And they have been to Jehovah bringing nigh a present in righteousness.

Egli si sederà, affinando e purificando l’argento; e purificherà i figliuoli di Levi, e li depurerà come si fa dell’oro e dell’argento, ed essi offriranno all’Eterno offerte con giustizia.

4 And sweet to Jehovah hath been the present of Judah and Jerusalem, As in days of old, and as in former years.

Allora l’offerta di Giuda e di Gerusalemme sarà gradevole all’Eterno, come ne’ giorni antichi, come negli anni di prima.

5 And I have drawn near to you for judgment, And I have been a witness, Making haste against sorcerers, And against adulterers, And against swearers to a falsehood, And against oppressors of the hire of an hireling, Of a widow, and of a fatherless one, And those turning aside a sojourner, And who fear Me not, said Jehovah of Hosts.

E io m’accosterò a voi per il giudizio, e, senza indugio, io sarò testimonio contro gl’incantatori, contro gli adulteri, contro quelli che giurano il falso, contro quelli che frodano l’operaio del suo salario, che opprimono la vedova e l’orfano, che fanno torto allo straniero, e non temono me, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti.

6 For I [am] Jehovah, I have not changed, And ye, the sons of Jacob, Ye have not been consumed.

Poiché io, l’Eterno, non muto; e perciò voi, o figliuoli di Giacobbe, non siete consumati.

7 Even from the days of your fathers Ye have turned aside from My statutes, And ye have not taken heed. Turn back unto Me, and I turn back to you, Said Jehovah of Hosts. And ye have said, 'In what do we turn back?'

Fin dai giorni de’ vostri padri voi vi siete scostati dalle mie prescrizioni, e non le avete osservate. Tornate a me, ed io tornerò a voi, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti. Ma voi dite: “In che dobbiam tornare?”

8 Doth man deceive God? but ye are deceiving Me, And ye have said: 'In what have we deceived Thee?' The tithe and the heave-offering!

L’uomo dev’egli derubare Iddio? Eppure voi mi derubate. Ma voi dite: “In che t’abbiam noi derubato?” Nelle decime e nelle offerte.

9 With a curse ye are cursed! And Me ye are deceiving — this nation — all of it.

Voi siete colpiti di maledizione, perché mi derubate, voi, tutta quanta la nazione!

10 Bring in all the tithe unto the treasure-house, And there is food in My house; When ye have tried Me, now, with this, Said Jehovah of Hosts, Do not I open to you the windows of heaven? Yea, I have emptied on you a blessing till there is no space.

Portate tutte le decime alla casa del tesoro, perché vi sia del cibo nella mia casa, e mettetemi alla prova in questo, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti; e vedrete s’io non v’apro le cateratte del cielo e non riverso su voi tanta benedizione che non vi sia più dove riporla.

11 And I have pushed for you against the consumer, And He doth not destroy to you the fruit of the ground, Nor miscarry to you doth the vine in the field, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

E, per amor vostro, io minaccerò l’insetto divoratore; ed egli non distruggerà più i frutti del vostro suolo, e la vostra vigna non abortirà più nella campagna, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti.

12 And declared you happy have all the nations, For ye are a delightful land, said Jehovah of Hosts.

E tutte le nazioni vi diranno beati, perché sarete un paese di delizie, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti.

13 Hard against Me have been your words, Said Jehovah, and ye have said: 'What have we spoken against Thee?'

Voi usate parole dure contro di me, dice l’Eterno. Eppure voi dite: “Che abbiam detto contro di te?”

14 Ye have said, 'A vain thing to serve God! And what gain when we kept His charge? And when we have gone in black, Because of Jehovah of Hosts?

Voi avete detto: “E’ vano servire Iddio; e che abbiam guadagnato a osservare le sue prescrizioni, e ad andare vestiti a lutto a motivo dell’Eterno degli eserciti?

15 And now, we are declaring the proud happy, Yea, built up have been those doing wickedness, Yea they have tempted God, and escape.'

Ora dunque noi proclamiam beati i superbi; sì, quelli che operano malvagiamente prosperano; sì, tentano Dio, e scampano!”

16 Then have those fearing Jehovah spoken one to another, And Jehovah doth attend and hear, And written is a book of memorial before Him Of those fearing Jehovah, And of those esteeming His name.

Allora quelli che temono l’Eterno si son parlati l’un all’altro e l’Eterno è stato attento ed ha ascoltato; e un libro è stato scritto davanti a lui, per conservare il ricordo di quelli che temono l’Eterno e rispettano il suo nome.

17 And they have been to Me, said Jehovah of Hosts, In the day that I am appointing — a peculiar treasure, And I have had pity on them, As one hath pity on his son who is serving him.

Essi saranno, nel giorno ch’io preparo, saranno la mia proprietà particolare, dice l’Eterno degli eserciti; e io li risparmierò, come uno risparmia il figlio che lo serve.

18 And ye have turned back and considered, Between the righteous and the wicked, Between the servant of God and him who is not His servant.

E voi vedrete di nuovo la differenza che v’è fra il giusto e l’empio, fra colui che serve Dio e colui che non lo serve.
