Luke 11
1 And it came to pass, in his being in a certain place praying, as he ceased, a certain one of his disciples said unto him, 'Sir, teach us to pray, as also John taught his disciples.'
Un jour, Jésus était en prière dans un certain lieu. Quand il eut fini de prier, un de ses disciples lui dit: Seigneur, enseigne-nous à prier, comme Jean l'a enseigné à ses disciples.
2 And he said to them, 'When ye may pray, say ye: Our Father who art in the heavens; hallowed be Thy name: Thy reign come; Thy will come to pass, as in heaven also on earth;
Il leur dit: Quand vous priez, dites: Père, que ton nom soit sanctifié. Que ton règne vienne.
3 our appointed bread be giving us daily;
Donne-nous chaque jour notre pain quotidien.
4 and forgive us our sins, for also we ourselves forgive every one indebted to us; and mayest Thou not bring us into temptation; but do Thou deliver us from the evil.'
Pardonne-nous nos péchés; car, nous aussi, nous pardonnons à tous ceux qui nous ont offensés. Ne nous laisse pas succomber à la tentation.
5 And he said unto them, 'Who of you shall have a friend, and shall go on unto him at midnight, and may say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves,
Puis il leur dit: Si l'un de vous a un ami et qu'il aille le trouver au milieu de la nuit pour lui dire: Mon ami, prête-moi trois pains;
6 seeing a friend of mine came out of the way unto me, and I have not what I shall set before him,
car un de mes amis est arrivé de voyage, et je n'ai rien à lui offrir.
7 and he from within answering may say, Do not give me trouble, already the door hath been shut, and my children with me are in the bed, I am not able, having risen, to give to thee.
Si cet homme lui répond de l'intérieur: Ne m'importune pas; ma porte est déjà fermée, mes enfants et moi, nous sommes au lit; je ne puis me lever pour t'en donner!
8 'I say to you, even if he will not give to him, having risen, because of his being his friend, yet because of his importunity, having risen, he will give him as many as he doth need;
Je vous le déclare, quand même cet homme ne se lèverait pas pour lui en donner parce qu'il est son ami, il se lèvera à cause de son importunité et lui donnera tout ce dont il a besoin.
9 and I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you;
Et moi, je vous dis: demandez, et l'on vous donnera; cherchez, et vous trouverez; frappez, et l'on vous ouvrira.
10 for every one who is asking doth receive; and he who is seeking doth find; and to him who is knocking it shall be opened.
Car quiconque demande, reçoit; qui cherche, trouve; et l'on ouvrira à celui qui frappe.
11 'And of which of you — the father — if the son shall ask a loaf, a stone will he present to him? and if a fish, will he instead of a fish, a serpent present to him?
Quel est parmi vous le père qui donnera à son fils une pierre, s'il lui demande du pain? Ou, s'il demande du poisson, lui donnera-t-il un serpent au lieu d'un poisson?
12 and if he may ask an egg, will he present to him a scorpion?
Ou, s'il demande un oeuf, lui donnera-t-il un scorpion?
13 If, then, ye, being evil, have known good gifts to be giving to your children, how much more shall the Father who is from heaven give the Holy Spirit to those asking Him!'
Si donc vous, qui êtes mauvais, savez donner de bonnes choses à vos enfants, combien plus votre Père céleste donnera-t-il le Saint-Esprit à ceux qui le lui demandent!
14 And he was casting forth a demon, and it was dumb, and it came to pass, the demon having gone forth, the dumb man spake, and the multitudes wondered,
Jésus chassa un démon, chez un homme qui était muet; et le démon étant sorti, le muet parla. La multitude fut remplie d'admiration;
15 and certain of them said, 'By Beelzeboul, ruler of the demons, he doth cast forth the demons;'
mais quelques-uns dirent: C'est par Béelzébul, le prince des démons, qu'il chasse les démons.
16 and others, tempting, a sign out of heaven from him were asking.
D'autres, pour le mettre à l'épreuve, lui demandaient un miracle venant du ciel.
17 And he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, 'Every kingdom having been divided against itself is desolated; and house against house doth fall;
Jésus, connaissant leurs pensées, leur dit: Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même est réduit en désert, et ses maisons tombent l'une sur l'autre.
18 and if also the Adversary against himself was divided, how shall his kingdom be made to stand? for ye say, by Beelzeboul is my casting forth the demons.
Si donc Satan est aussi divisé contre lui-même, comment son royaume subsistera-t-il, puisque vous dites que c'est par Béelzébul que je chasse les démons?
19 'But if I by Beelzeboul cast forth the demons — your sons, by whom do they cast forth? because of this your judges they shall be;
Et si moi je chasse les démons par Béelzébul, vos fils, par qui les chassent-ils? C'est pourquoi ils seront eux-mêmes vos juges.
20 but if by the finger of God I cast forth the demons, then come unawares upon you did the reign of God.
Mais si c'est par le doigt de Dieu que je chasse les démons, le royaume de Dieu est donc venu jusqu'à vous!
21 'When the strong man armed may keep his hall, in peace are his goods;
Quand un homme fort et bien armé garde l'entrée de sa maison, ce qu'il possède est en sûreté.
22 but when the stronger than he, having come upon [him], may overcome him, his whole-armour he doth take away in which he had trusted, and his spoils he distributeth;
Mais, qu'il en vienne un plus fort que lui: celui-là, après l'avoir vaincu, lui enlève toutes ses armes, dans lesquelles il mettait sa confiance, et il distribue ses dépouilles.
23 he who is not with me is against me, and he who is not gathering with me doth scatter.
Celui qui n'est pas avec moi, est contre moi, et celui qui n'amasse pas avec moi, disperse.
24 'When the unclean spirit may go forth from the man it walketh through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding, it saith, I will turn back to my house whence I came forth;
Lorsque l'esprit impur est sorti d'un homme, il erre dans les lieux arides pour chercher du repos. N'en trouvant point, il dit: Je retournerai dans ma maison, d'où je suis sorti.
25 and having come, it findeth [it] swept and adorned;
Étant revenu, il la trouve balayée et ornée.
26 then doth it go, and take to it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and having entered, they dwell there, and the last of that man becometh worst than the first.'
Alors il s'en va et prend avec lui sept autres esprits plus méchants que lui. Ils entrent là et y demeurent; et la dernière condition de cet homme devient pire que la première.
27 And it came to pass, in his saying these things, a certain woman having lifted up the voice out of the multitude, said to him, 'Happy the womb that carried thee, and the paps that thou didst suck!'
Pendant que Jésus disait ces paroles, une femme, élevant la voix au milieu de la foule, lui dit: Heureux les flancs qui t'ont porté, et les mamelles qui t'ont allaité!
28 And he said, 'Yea, rather, happy those hearing the word of God, and keeping [it]!'
Jésus reprit: Heureux plutôt ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et qui la gardent!
29 And the multitudes crowding together upon him, he began to say, 'This generation is evil, a sign it doth seek after, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet,
Comme le peuple s'amassait en foule, Jésus se mit à dire: Cette génération est une génération méchante: elle demande un signe; mais il ne lui en sera accordé aucun autre que celui de Jonas.
30 for as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also shall the Son of Man be to this generation.
Car, de même que Jonas fut un signe pour les Ninivites, le Fils de l'homme aussi en sera un pour cette génération.
31 'A queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and shall condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and lo, greater than Solomon here!
La reine du Midi se lèvera, au jour du jugement, avec les hommes de cette génération, et elle les condamnera, parce qu'elle vint des extrémités de la terre pour entendre la sagesse de Salomon; or, il y a ici plus que Salomon!
32 'Men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, because they reformed at the proclamation of Jonah; and lo, greater than Jonah here!
Les Ninivites se lèveront au jour du jugement avec cette génération, et ils la condamneront, parce qu'ils se repentirent à la prédication de Jonas; or, il y a ici plus que Jonas!
33 'And no one having lighted a lamp, doth put [it] in a secret place, nor under the measure, but on the lamp-stand, that those coming in may behold the light.
Personne n'allume une lampe pour la mettre dans un lieu caché, ou sous un boisseau; mais on la met sur un support, afin que ceux qui entrent, voient la lumière.
34 'The lamp of the body is the eye, when then thine eye may be simple, thy whole body also is lightened; and when it may be evil, thy body also is darkened;
L'oeil est la lampe du corps; si ton oeil est sain, tout ton corps est dans la lumière; mais s'il est mauvais, ton corps est dans les ténèbres.
35 take heed, then, lest the light that [is] in thee be darkness;
Ainsi, prends garde que la lumière qui est en toi ne soit ténèbres.
36 if then thy whole body is lightened, not having any part darkened, the whole shall be lightened, as when the lamp by the brightness may give thee light.'
il sera éclairé entièrement, comme lorsque la clarté d'une lampe rayonne sur toi.
37 And in [his] speaking, a certain Pharisee was asking him that he might dine with him, and having gone in, he reclined (at meat),
Pendant que Jésus parlait, un pharisien le pria de prendre un repas chez lui. Jésus entra et se mit à table.
38 and the Pharisee having seen, did wonder that he did not first baptize himself before the dinner.
Le pharisien, voyant qu'il ne s'était pas lavé avant le repas, en fut surpris.
39 And the Lord said unto him, 'Now do ye, the Pharisees, the outside of the cup and of the plate make clean, but your inward part is full of rapine and wickedness;
Mais le Seigneur lui dit: Vous autres, pharisiens, vous nettoyez le dehors de la coupe et du plat; et, au dedans, vous êtes pleins de rapacité et de méchanceté.
40 unthinking! did not He who made the outside also the inside make?
Insensés! Celui qui a fait le dehors, n'a-t-il pas aussi fait le dedans?
41 But what ye have give ye [as] alms, and, lo, all things are clean to you.
Donnez plutôt en aumônes ce que vous avez, et toutes choses seront pures pour vous.
42 'But woe to you, the Pharisees, because ye tithe the mint, and the rue, and every herb, and ye pass by the judgment, and the love of God; these things it behoveth to do, and those not to be neglecting.
Mais malheur à vous, pharisiens, parce que vous payez la dîme de la menthe, de la rue et de toutes sortes d'herbes, tandis que vous négligez la justice et l'amour de Dieu! Voilà les choses qu'il fallait faire, sans toutefois négliger les autres.
43 'Woe to you, the Pharisees, because ye love the first seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the market-places.
Malheur à vous, pharisiens, parce que vous aimez la première place dans les synagogues, et les salutations dans les places publiques!
44 'Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because ye are as the unseen tombs, and the men walking above have not known.'
Malheur à vous, parce que vous ressemblez aux tombeaux qu'on ne remarque pas, et sur lesquels on marche sans le savoir!
45 And one of the lawyers answering, saith to him, 'Teacher, these things saying, us also thou dost insult;'
Alors un des docteurs de la loi prit la parole et lui dit: Maître, en parlant ainsi, tu nous outrages, nous aussi.
46 and he said, 'And to you, the lawyers, woe! because ye burden men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves with one of your fingers do not touch the burdens.
Jésus reprit: Malheur à vous aussi, docteurs de la loi, parce que vous chargez les hommes de fardeaux difficiles à porter, et vous-mêmes, vous n'y touchez pas du doigt!
47 'Woe to you, because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
Malheur à vous, parce que vous bâtissez les tombeaux des prophètes que vos pères ont fait mourir!
48 Then do ye testify, and are well pleased with the works of your fathers, because they indeed killed them, and ye do build their tombs;
Vous rappelez ainsi les oeuvres de vos pères, et vous les approuvez; car eux, ils les ont fait mourir, et vous, vous leur élevez des tombeaux.
49 because of this also the wisdom of God said: I will send to them prophets, and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute,
C'est pourquoi, la sagesse de Dieu a dit: Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres, et ils feront mourir les uns et persécuteront les autres,
50 that the blood of all the prophets, that is being poured forth from the foundation of the world, may be required from this generation;
afin que le sang de tous les prophètes, répandu depuis la création du monde, soit redemandé à cette génération,
51 from the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the house; yes, I say to you, It shall be required from this generation.
depuis le sang d'Abel jusqu'au sang de Zacharie, qui fut tué entre l'autel et le temple. Oui, vous dis-je, il en sera demandé compte à cette génération.
52 'Woe to you, the lawyers, because ye took away the key of the knowledge; yourselves ye did not enter; and those coming in, ye did hinder.'
Malheur à vous, docteurs de la loi, parce qu'ayant pris la clef de la science, vous n'êtes point entrés vous-mêmes, et ceux qui voulaient entrer, vous les en avez empêchés!
53 And in his speaking these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began fearfully to urge and to press him to speak about many things,
Quand Jésus fut sorti de là, les scribes et les pharisiens se mirent à le presser violemment et à le harceler de leurs questions,
54 laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.
lui tendant des pièges, pour s'emparer de quelque parole sortie de sa bouche.
