< Leviticus 19 >

1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
2 'Speak unto all the company of the sons of Israel, and thou hast said unto them, Ye are holy, for holy [am] I, Jehovah, your God.
Speak to the entire assembly of the sons of Israel, and you shall say to them: Be holy, for I, the Lord your God, am holy.
3 'Each his mother and his father ye do fear, and My sabbaths ye do keep; I [am] Jehovah your God.
Let each one fear his father and his mother. Observe my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.
4 'Ye do not turn unto the idols, and a molten god ye do not make to yourselves; I [am] Jehovah your God.
Do not be willing to convert to idols, neither should you make molten gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God.
5 'And when ye sacrifice a sacrifice of peace-offerings to Jehovah, at your pleasure ye do sacrifice it;
If you immolate a victim of peace offerings to the Lord, so that he may be appeased,
6 in the day of your sacrificing it is eaten, and on the morrow, and that which is left unto the third day with fire is burnt,
you shall eat it on the same day as when it was immolated, and the next day. Then whatever will remain on the third day you shall burn with fire.
7 and if it be really eaten on the third day, it [is] an abomination, it is not pleasing,
If anyone, after two days, will have eaten from it, he shall be profane and guilty of impiety.
8 and he who is eating it his iniquity doth bear, for the holy thing of Jehovah he hath polluted, and that person hath been cut off from his people.
And he shall bear his iniquity, for he has polluted what is holy to the Lord. And that soul shall perish from his people.
9 'And in your reaping the harvest of your land ye do not completely reap the corner of thy field, and the gleaning of thy harvest thou dost not gather,
When you will have harvested the grain fields of your land, you shall not cut it down to the surface of the land, even to the ground, nor shall you gather the remaining ears of grain.
10 and thy vineyard thou dost not glean, even the omitted part of thy vineyard thou dost not gather, to the poor and to the sojourner thou dost leave them; I [am] Jehovah your God.
Neither shall you gather the clusters or individual grapes which fall down in your vineyard, but you shall leave them for paupers and travelers to take. I am the Lord your God.
11 'Ye do not steal, nor feign, nor lie one against his fellow.
You shall not steal. You shall not lie. Neither shall anyone deceive his neighbor.
12 'And ye do not swear by My name to falsehood, or thou hast polluted the name of thy God; I [am] Jehovah.
You shall not commit perjury in my name, nor shall you pollute the name of your God. I am the Lord.
13 'Thou dost not oppress thy neighbour, nor take plunder; the wages of the hireling doth not remain with thee till morning.
You shall not slander your neighbor, nor shall you oppress him by violence. The wages of a hired hand, you shall not delay with you until tomorrow.
14 'Thou dost not revile the deaf; and before the blind thou dost not put a stumbling block; and thou hast been afraid of thy God; I [am] Jehovah.
You shall not speak evil of the deaf, nor shall you place a stumbling block before the blind, but you shall fear the Lord your God, for I am the Lord.
15 'Ye do not do perversity in judgment; thou dost not lift up the face of the poor, nor honour the face of the great; in righteousness thou dost judge thy fellow.
You shall not do what is unjust, nor shall you judge unjustly. You shall not consider the reputation of the poor, nor shall you honor the countenance of the powerful. Judge your neighbor justly.
16 'Thou dost not go slandering among thy people; thou dost not stand against the blood of thy neighbour; I [am] Jehovah.
You shall not be a detractor, nor a whisperer, among the people. You shall not stand against the blood of your neighbor. I am the Lord.
17 'Thou dost not hate thy brother in thy heart; thou dost certainly reprove thy fellow, and not suffer sin on him.
You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but reprove him openly, lest you have sin over him.
18 'Thou dost not take vengeance, nor watch the sons of thy people; and thou hast had love to thy neighbour as thyself; I [am] Jehovah.
Do not seek revenge, neither should you be mindful of the injury of your fellow citizens. You shall love your friend as yourself. I am the Lord.
19 'My statutes ye do keep: thy cattle thou dost not cause to gender [with] diverse kinds; thy field thou dost not sow with diverse kinds, and a garment of diverse kinds, shaatnez, doth not go up upon thee.
Observe my laws. You shall not cause your cattle to breed with other kinds of animals. You shall not sow your field with diverse seeds. You shall not be clothed with a garment which has been woven from two things.
20 'And when a man lieth with a woman with seed of copulation, and she a maid-servant, betrothed to a man, and not really ransomed, or freedom hath not been given to her, an investigation there is; they are not put to death, for she [is] not free.
If a man will have slept in sexual intercourse with a woman, who is a servant and who is also able to be married, and yet he has not redeemed her with a price, nor paid to set her free, they both shall be beaten, but they shall not die, for she was not a free woman.
21 'And he hath brought in his guilt-offering to Jehovah, unto the opening of the tent of meeting, a ram [for] a guilt-offering,
But, for his offense, he shall offer a ram to the Lord at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony.
22 and the priest hath made atonement for him with the ram of the guilt-offering before Jehovah, for his sin which he hath sinned, and it hath been forgiven him because of his sin which he hath sinned.
And the priest shall pray for him, and for his sin, before the Lord, and he shall win his favor again for him, and the sin shall be forgiven.
23 'And when ye come in unto the land, and have planted all [kinds] of trees [for] food, then ye have reckoned as uncircumcised its fruit, three years it is to you uncircumcised, it is not eaten,
When you will have entered into the land, and will have planted in it fruit trees, you shall take away their first-fruits; the fruit that germinates shall be unclean to you, neither shall you eat from these.
24 and in the fourth year all its fruit is holy — praises for Jehovah.
But in the fourth year, all their fruit shall be sanctified for the praise of the Lord.
25 And in the fifth year ye do eat its fruit — to add to you its increase; I [am] Jehovah your God.
And in the fifth year you shall eat the produce, gathering the fruits which are brought forth. I am the Lord your God.
26 'Ye do not eat with the blood; ye do not enchant, nor observe clouds.
You shall not eat with blood. You shall not practice divination, nor the observation of dreams.
27 'Ye do not round the corner of your head, nor destroy the corner of thy beard.
And you shall not cut the hair of your head circularly, nor shave your beard.
28 'And a cutting for the soul ye do not put in your flesh; and a writing, a cross-mark, ye do not put on you; I [am] Jehovah.
You shall not cut your flesh for the dead, and you shall not make other figures or marks on yourself. I am the Lord.
29 'Thou dost not pollute thy daughter to cause her to go a-whoring, that the land go not a-whoring, and the land hath been full of wickedness.
Do not prostitute your daughter, lest the land be contaminated and filled with crimes.
30 'My sabbaths ye do keep, and My sanctuary ye do reverence; I [am] Jehovah.
Observe my Sabbaths, and be apprehensive toward my Sanctuary. I am the Lord.
31 'Ye do not turn unto those having familiar spirits; and unto wizards ye do not seek, for uncleanness by them; I [am] Jehovah your God.
Do not turn aside to astrologers, nor consult with soothsayers, so as to be polluted through them. I am the Lord your God.
32 'At the presence of grey hairs thou dost rise up, and thou hast honoured the presence of an old man, and hast been afraid of thy God; I [am] Jehovah.
Rise up in the presence of a gray-haired head, and honor the reputation of an elder, and fear the Lord your God. I am the Lord.
33 'And when a sojourner sojourneth with thee in your land, thou dost not oppress him;
If a newcomer lives in your land and abides among you, do not reproach him,
34 as a native among you is the sojourner to you who is sojourning with you, and thou hast had love to him as to thyself, for sojourners ye have been in the land of Egypt; I [am] Jehovah your God.
but let him be among you like one native born. And you shall love him as yourselves. For you were also newcomers in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
35 'Ye do not do perversity in judgment, in mete-yard, in weight, or in liquid measure;
Do not be willing to accomplish iniquity in judgment, in lengths, in weights, in quantities.
36 righteous balances, righteous weights, a righteous ephah, and a righteous hin ye have; I [am] Jehovah your God, who hath brought you out from the land of Egypt;
Let the scales be just and the weights equal, let the dry measure be just and the liquid measure be equal. I am the Lord your God, who led you away from the land of Egypt.
37 and ye have observed all my statutes, and all my judgments, and have done them; I [am] Jehovah.'
Keep all my precepts, and all my judgments, and accomplish them. I am the Lord.
