Joshua 20
1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Joshua, saying,
Yahvé habló a Josué, diciendo:
2 'Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, Give for you cities of refuge, as I have spoken unto you by the hand of Moses,
“Habla a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: ‘Asigna las ciudades de refugio, de las que te hablé por medio de Moisés,
3 for the fleeing thither of a man-slayer smiting life inadvertently, without knowledge; and they have been to you for a refuge from the redeemer of blood.
para que el homicida que mate a cualquier persona accidentalmente o sin intención pueda huir allí. Le servirán de refugio contra el vengador de la sangre.
4 'When [one] hath fled unto one of these cities, and hath stood [at] the opening of the gate of the city, and hath spoken in the ears of the elders of that city his matter, then they have gathered him into the city unto them, and have given to him a place, and he hath dwelt with them.
Huirá a una de esas ciudades, se pondrá a la entrada de la puerta de la ciudad y declarará su caso a los oídos de los ancianos de esa ciudad. Ellos lo llevarán a la ciudad con ellos, y le darán un lugar, para que viva entre ellos.
5 'And when the redeemer of blood doth pursue after him, then they do not shut up the man-slayer into his hand, for without knowledge he hath smitten his neighbour, and is not hating him hitherto;
Si el vengador de la sangre lo persigue, no entregarán al homicida en su mano, porque golpeó a su prójimo sin querer y no lo odiaba antes.
6 and he hath dwelt in that city till his standing before the company for judgment, till the death of the chief priest who is in those days — then doth the man-slayer turn back and hath come unto his city, and unto his house, unto the city whence he fled.'
El habitará en esa ciudad hasta que se presente ante la congregación para el juicio, hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote que habrá en esos días. Entonces el homicida regresará y volverá a su ciudad y a su casa, a la ciudad de la que huyó”.
7 And they sanctify Kedesh in Galilee, in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kirjath-Arba (it [is] Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah;
Asignaron Cedes en Galilea en la región montañosa de Neftalí, Siquem en la región montañosa de Efraín, y Quiriat Arba (también llamada Hebrón) en la región montañosa de Judá.
8 and beyond the Jordan, [at] Jericho eastward, they have given Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.
Más allá del Jordán, en Jericó, hacia el este, asignaron a Beser en el desierto, en la llanura, de la tribu de Rubén, a Ramot en Galaad, de la tribu de Gad, y a Golán en Basán, de la tribu de Manasés.
9 These have been cities of meeting for all the sons of Israel, and for a sojourner who is sojourning in their midst, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting life inadvertently, and he doth not die by the hand of the redeemer of blood till his standing before the company.
Estas fueron las ciudades designadas para todos los hijos de Israel, y para el extranjero que vive entre ellos, para que el que matara a cualquier persona sin querer pudiera huir allí, y no muriera por la mano del vengador de la sangre, hasta que fuera juzgado ante la congregación.
