Joshua 16

1 And the lot for the sons of Joseph goeth out from Jordan [by] Jericho, to the waters of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness going up from Jericho in the hill-country of Beth-El,

Et le lot échu aux enfants de Joseph fut depuis le Jourdain, contre Jéricho, et les eaux de ce fleuve, à l’orient, le désert qui monte de Jéricho à la montagne de Béthel,

2 and hath gone out from Beth-El to Luz, and passed over unto the border of Archi [to] Ataroth,

Et s’avance de Béthel à Luza, passe par la frontière d’Archi à Ataroth,

3 and gone down westward unto the border of Japhleti, unto the border of Beth-Horon the lower, and unto Gezer, and its outgoings have been at the sea.

Et descend à l’occident près de la frontière de Jéphlet, jusqu’aux frontières de Béth-horon la basse, et jusqu’à Gaser; et ses contrées finissent à la grande mer.

4 And the sons of Joseph — Manasseh and Ephraim — inherit.

Or, c’est là ce qu’ont possédé les enfants de Joseph, Manassé et Ephraïm.

5 And the border of the sons of Ephraim is by their families; and the border of their inheritance is on the east, Atroth-Addar unto Beth-Horon the upper;

Et la frontière des enfants d’Ephraïm, selon leur parenté, devint ainsi que leur possession, contre l’orient, Ataroth Addar, jusqu’à Beth-horon la haute;

6 and the border hath gone out at the sea, to Michmethah on the north, and the border hath gone round eastward [to] Taanath-Shiloh, and passed over it eastward to Janohah,

Et ses confins s’avancent jusqu’à la mer; mais Machméthath regarde l’aquilon, fait le tour des frontières, contre l’orient, à Thanathsélo, et passe de l’orient à Janoë.

7 and gone down from Janohah [to] Ataroth, and to Naarath, and touched against Jericho, and gone out at the Jordan.

La frontière descend encore de Janoë à Atharoth et à Naaratha; puis elle parvient à Jéricho, et s’avance jusqu’au Jourdain;

8 From Tappuah the border goeth westward unto the brook of Kanah, and its outgoings have been at the sea: this [is] the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim, for their families.

De Taphua elle passe contre la mer jusqu’à la Vallée des roseaux et se termine à la mer très salée; telle est la possession de la tribu des enfants d’Ephraïm, selon leurs familles.

9 And the separate cities of the sons of Ephraim [are] in the midst of the inheritance of the sons of Manasseh, all the cities and their villages;

Mais les villes qui étaient au milieu de la possession des enfants de Manassé, furent distraites pour les enfants d’Ephraïm, ainsi que leurs villages.

10 and they have not dispossessed the Canaanite who is dwelling in Gezer, and the Canaanite dwelleth in the midst of Ephraim unto this day, and is to tribute — a servant.

Et les enfants d’Ephraïm ne tuèrent point le Chananéen, qui habitait dans Gazer; mais le Chananéen a habité au milieu d’Ephraïm jusqu’à ce jour, comme tributaire.
