Job 23
1 And Job answereth and saith: —
Potem je Job odgovoril in rekel:
2 Also — to-day [is] my complaint bitter, My hand hath been heavy because of my sighing.
»Celó do danes je moja pritožba grenka, moj udarec je težji kakor moje stokanje.
3 O that I had known — and I find Him, I come in unto His seat,
Oh, da bi vedel, kje ga lahko najdem! Da bi lahko prišel celó k njegovemu sedežu!
4 I arrange before Him the cause, And my mouth fill [with] arguments.
Svojo zadevo bi razporedil pred njim in svoja usta zapolnil z argumenti.
5 I know the words He doth answer me, And understand what He saith to me.
Poznal bi besede, ki bi mi jih odgovoril in razumel kaj bi mi rekel.
6 In the abundance of power doth He strive with me? No! surely He putteth [it] in me.
Mar bo navajal dokaze zoper mene s svojo veliko močjo? Ne, temveč bi vame položil moč.
7 There the upright doth reason with Him, And I escape for ever from my judge.
Tam se lahko pravični prereka z njim; tako bi bil na veke osvobojen pred svojim sodnikom.
8 Lo, forward I go — and He is not, And backward — and I perceive him not.
Glej, grem naprej, toda ni ga tam; in nazaj, toda ne morem ga zaznati.
9 [To] the left in His working — and I see not, He is covered [on] the right, and I behold not.
Na levico, kjer dela, toda ne morem ga gledati. Skrije se na desnici, da ga ne morem videti.
10 For He hath known the way with me, He hath tried me — as gold I go forth.
Toda pozna pot, ki se je držim. Ko me preizkuša, bom izšel kakor zlato.
11 On His step hath my foot laid hold, His way I have kept, and turn not aside,
Moje stopalo se je držalo njegovih korakov, njegove poti sem se držal in nisem skrenil.
12 The command of His lips, and I depart not. Above my allotted portion I have laid up The sayings of His mouth.
Niti nisem odstopil od zapovedi njegovih ustnic. Besede iz njegovih ust sem cenil bolj kakor svojo potrebno hrano.
13 And He [is] in one [mind], And who doth turn Him back? And His soul hath desired — and He doth [it].
Toda on je enega mišljenja in kdo ga lahko odvrne? In kar njegova duša želi, celo to počne.
14 For He doth complete my portion, And many such things [are] with Him.
Kajti opravlja stvar, ki je določena zame in mnogo takšnih stvari je z njim.
15 Therefore, from His presence I am troubled, I consider, and am afraid of Him.
Zato sem vznemirjen ob njegovi prisotnosti. Ko preudarim, se ga bojim.
16 And God hath made my heart soft, And the Mighty hath troubled me.
Kajti Bog mehča moje srce in Vsemogočni me vznemirja,
17 For I have not been cut off before darkness, And before me He covered thick darkness.
ker nisem bil odsekan pred temo niti ni teme pokril pred mojim obrazom.
