< Job 18 >

1 And Bildad the Shuhite answereth and saith: —
Ningĩ Bilidadi ũrĩa Mũshuhi agĩcookia, akĩũria atĩrĩ:
2 When do ye set an end to words? Consider ye, and afterwards do we speak.
“Ũrĩĩtiga kwaria mĩario ĩno rĩ? Gĩa na ũũgĩ nĩguo o na ithuĩ tũhote kwaria.
3 Wherefore have we been reckoned as cattle? We have been defiled in your eyes!
Nĩ kĩĩ kĩratũma ũtuone tũhaana ta ngʼombe, na tũgatuuo irimũ maitho-inĩ maku?
4 (He is tearing himself in his anger.) For thy sake is earth forsaken? And removed is a rock from its place?
Wee ũrehanyũrũra nĩ ũndũ wa ũrĩa ũrakarĩte-rĩ, thĩ no ĩthaamwo nĩ ũndũ waku? Kana no nginya ndwaro cia mahiga cieherio harĩa itũire?
5 Also, the light of the wicked is extinguished. And there doth not shine a spark of his fire.
“Tawa wa mũndũ mwaganu nĩmũhorie; rũrĩrĩmbĩ rwa mwaki wake nĩrũtigĩte gwakana.
6 The light hath been dark in his tent, And his lamp over him is extinguished.
Ũtheri ũrĩa ũrĩ thĩinĩ wa hema yake ũtuĩkĩte nduma; naguo tawa ũrĩa ũrĩ hakuhĩ nake ũkahora.
7 Straitened are the steps of his strength, And cast him down doth his own counsel.
Hinya wa mũkinyũkĩrie wake nĩmũhũthie; namo mathugunda make makamũgũithia thĩ.
8 For he is sent into a net by his own feet, And on a snare he doth walk habitually.
Makinya make mamũikagia wabu-inĩ, nake akoorũraga thĩinĩ wa marima mayo.
9 Seize on the heel doth a gin, Prevail over him do the designing.
Mũtego ũmũnyiitĩire ndiira-inĩ ya kũgũrũ; mũtego ũgakĩmũrũmia biũ.
10 Hidden in the earth is his cord, And his trap on the path.
Ahithĩirwo kĩana kĩa rũrigi tĩĩri-inĩ, akaambĩrwo mũtego njĩra-inĩ yake.
11 Round about terrified him have terrors, And they have scattered him — at his feet.
Imakania imuumagĩrĩra na mĩena yothe, na ikamũtengʼeragia harĩa hothe aagerera.
12 Hungry is his sorrow, And calamity is ready at his side.
Mũtino nĩũmũhũũtĩire; mwanangĩko wetereire agwe.
13 It consumeth the parts of his skin, Consume his parts doth death's first-born.
Mũtino ũrĩĩaga icunjĩ cia gĩkonde gĩake; narĩo irigithathi rĩa gĩkuũ rĩgatambuuranga ciĩga ciake.
14 Drawn from his tent is his confidence, And it causeth him to step to the king of terrors.
Aguucĩtio, akarutwo ũgitĩri-inĩ wa hema yake, na agatwarwo kũrĩ mũthamaki wa imakania.
15 It dwelleth in his tent — out of his provender, Scattered over his habitation is sulphur.
Mwaki nĩguo ũtũũraga hema-inĩ yake; ũbiriti ũgwakana nĩũhurunjĩtwo gĩikaro gĩake.
16 From beneath his roots are dried up, And from above cut off is his crop.
Mĩri yake yũmagĩra tĩĩri-inĩ, nacio honge ciake ikahooha na igũrũ.
17 His memorial hath perished from the land, And he hath no name on the street.
Kĩririkano gĩake nĩ gĩgaathira thĩ; ndarĩ rĩĩtwa bũrũri-inĩ.
18 They thrust him from light unto darkness, And from the habitable earth cast him out.
Akaarutũrũrwo ũtheri-inĩ atwarwo nduma-inĩ na nĩakaingatwo oime thĩ ĩno.
19 He hath no continuator, Nor successor among his people, And none is remaining in his dwellings.
Ndarĩ ciana kana njiaro thĩinĩ wa andũ ao, o na ndarĩ mũndũ wake ũgaatigara kũrĩa aatũũraga.
20 At this day westerns have been astonished And easterns have taken fright.
Andũ a mwena wa ithũĩro nĩmakagegio nĩ maũndũ marĩa mamũkorete; andũ a mwena wa irathĩro manyiitwo nĩ kĩmako.
21 Only these [are] tabernacles of the perverse, And this the place God hath not known.
Ti-itherũ ũguo nĩguo gĩikaro kĩa mũndũ mwaganu gũkahaana; kũndũ kwa mũndũ ũrĩa ũtooĩ Mũrungu-rĩ, gwake kũhaana ũguo.”
