< Job 15 >

1 And Eliphaz the Temanite answereth and saith: —
To naah Taman acaeng Eliphaz mah,
2 Doth a wise man answer [with] vain knowledge? And fill [with] an east wind his belly?
palungha kami loe takhi hoi kanghmong lokthuih han oh maw? A zok to ni angyae bang ih takhi hoi koisak han oh maw?
3 To reason with a word not useful? And speeches — no profit in them?
Tidoeh avang ai lok, to tih ai boeh loe atho om ai lok thuih han oh maw?
4 Yea, thou dost make reverence void, And dost diminish meditation before God.
Ue, nang loe Sithaw zithaih to na pahnawt sut boeh moe, Sithaw khae lawkthuihaih doeh na pakaa khoep boeh.
5 For thy mouth teacheth thine iniquity, And thou chooseth the tongue of the subtile.
Na pakha mah zaehaih to thuih moe, aling thaih kami ih lok to na patoh.
6 Thy mouth declareth thee wicked, and not I, And thy lips testify against thee.
Kai mah zaehaih kang net ai, na pakha mah ni ang net; ue, na palai mah na sethaih to thuih.
7 The first man art thou born? And before the heights wast thou formed?
Nang loe tapen tangsuek kami ah maw na oh? Maenawk sah ai naah sak ah na oh boeh maw?
8 Of the secret counsel of God dost thou hear? And withdrawest thou unto thee wisdom?
Sithaw khae hoi ih tamqu lok to na thaih vai maw? Palunghahaih tawn kami loe nang khue maw?
9 What hast thou known, and we know not? Understandest thou — and it is not with us?
Ka panoek o ai ih hmuen, timaw na panoek? Ka thaih o kop ai ih hmuen, timaw na thai kop?
10 Both the gray-headed And the very aged [are] among us — Greater than thy father [in] days.
Nam pa pongah saning coeh, sampok kaminawk kaicae khaeah oh vop.
11 Too few for thee are the comforts of God? And a gentle word [is] with thee,
Sithaw pathloephaih lok to na khawt ai vop maw? Hawk ih hmuen na suek vop maw?
12 What — doth thine heart take thee away? And what — are thine eyes high?
Tipongah palung koehhaih to na paroi moe, miktamai hoiah mik na padai loe?
13 For thou turnest against God thy spirit? And hast brought out words from thy mouth:
To tiah na oh pongah na ai maw Sithaw koeh ai ih hmuen to na sak moe, na pakha thung hoiah lok na tacawtsak?
14 What [is] man that he is pure, And that he is righteous, one born of woman?
Kami loe timaw, anih loe ciim thai tih maw? Nongpata mah tapen ih kami loe toeng thai tih maw?
15 Lo, in His holy ones He putteth no credence, And the heavens have not been pure in His eyes.
Khenah, Sithaw loe angmah ih kaciim kaminawk mataeng doeh oep ai; ue, a hmaa ah loe vannawk doeh ciim ai.
16 Also — surely abominable and filthy Is man drinking as water perverseness.
To tiah nahaeloe zaehaih tui baktih kanae, panuet thok kami cae loe kawkruk maw amhnong tih?
17 I shew thee — hearken to me — And this I have seen and declare:
Tahngai ah, kang thuih han vop; ka hnuk ih hmuen to kang thuih han vop;
18 Which the wise declare — And have not hid — from their fathers.
palungha kaminawk loe, ampanawk khae hoi hak ih hmuennawk to angphat ai ah thuih o:
19 To them alone was the land given, And a stranger passed not over into their midst:
nihcae acaeng han khue ni prae to paek, nihcae salakah acaeng kalah mi doeh om o ai.
20 'All days of the wicked he is paining himself, And few years have been laid up for the terrible one.
Kasae kami loe a hing thung patangkhang, pacaekthlaek thaih kami loe a hing thung karai tong han ih saningnawk to panoek ai.
21 A fearful voice [is] in his ears, In peace doth a destroyer come to him.
Anih ih naa loe zithaih lok hoiah koi; khosak hoih nathuem ah, a nuiah amrohaih to phak.
22 He believeth not to return from darkness, And watched [is] he for the sword.
Anih loe vinghaih thung hoi loih hanah oephaih tawn ai; sumsen ni a zing sut boeh.
23 He is wandering for bread — 'Where [is] it?' He hath known that ready at his hand Is a day of darkness.
Anih loe amhet rumram moe, caaknaek to pakrong; a nuiah pha han koi vinghaih ani loe zoi boeh, tiah anih mah panoek.
24 Terrify him do adversity and distress, They prevail over him As a king ready for a boaster.
Raihaih hoi palungboenghaih mah anih to tasoehsak moe, siangpahrang mah misatuk han amsakcoek baktih toengah, raihaih hoi palungboenghaih mah anih to pazawk.
25 For he stretched out against God his hand, And against the Mighty he maketh himself mighty.
Anih mah Sithaw to ban payangh thuih moe, Thacak Sithaw ih lok aek hanah tha pathok.
26 He runneth unto Him with a neck, With thick bosses of his shields.
Kathah parai misa angvaenghaih aphawnawk to angkhuk moe, Sithaw to a hmang;
27 For he hath covered his face with his fat, And maketh vigour over [his] confidence.
anih ih mikhmai loe thawk hruk moe, a kaeng ih ngan doeh tasa bangah tacawt dok.
28 And he inhabiteth cities cut off, houses not dwelt in, That have been ready to become heaps.
Anih loe kamro tangcae vangpuinawk, mi mah doeh om haih ai ih, kamtimh tom imnawk ah ni khosak.
29 He is not rich, nor doth his wealth rise, Nor doth he stretch out on earth their continuance.
Anih loe angraeng thai mak ai, anih angraenghaih doeh cak mak ai; long nui khosak naah a tawnh ih hmuennawk doeh pung mak ai.
30 He turneth not aside from darkness, His tender branch doth a flame dry up, And he turneth aside at the breath of His mouth!
Anih loe vinghaih thung hoi loih thai mak ai; anih ih tanghangnawk loe hmai mah kang ueloe, Sithaw pakha thung ih takhi mah hmut phaeng tih.
31 Let him not put credence in vanity, He hath been deceived, For vanity is his recompence.
Avang ai hmuen oephaih hoiah angmah hoi angmah to angling hmah nasoe, to tih ai nahaeloe avang ai atho to ni anih mah hnu tih.
32 Not in his day is it completed, And his bending branch is not green.
Anih loe atue pha ai naah azaem ueloe, tanghang doeh tacawt mak ai boeh.
33 He shaketh off as a vine his unripe fruit, And casteth off as an olive his blossom.
Anih loe hmin ai naah pakhrik ving ih misurthaih baktih, apawk kangmuen olive thingkung baktiah ni om tih.
34 For the company of the profane [is] gloomy, And fire hath consumed tents of bribery.
Sithaw tidoeh sah ai kaminawk loe azaem o tih; bokhaih tangqum koeh kaminawk ih kahni im loe hmai mah kang tih.
35 To conceive misery, and to bear iniquity, Even their heart doth prepare deceit.
Nihcae loe raihaih to zok ah pomh o moe, tidoeh avang ai caa to tapen o; nihcae ih zok loe alinghaih to ni pomh o, tiah a naa.
