Jeremiah 1
1 Words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, of the priests who [are] in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin,
Paroles de Jérémie, fils de Hilkija, d'entre les sacrificateurs qui étaient à Anathoth, dans le pays de Benjamin.
2 unto whom the word of Jehovah hath been in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign,
La parole de l'Éternel lui fut adressée au temps de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda, la treizième année de son règne;
3 and it is in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, till the completion of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah, king of Judah, till the removal of Jerusalem in the fifth month.
Et aussi au temps de Jéhojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à ce que Jérusalem fut emmenée en captivité, au cinquième mois.
4 And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,
La parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:
5 'Before I form thee in the belly, I have known thee; and before thou comest forth from the womb I have separated thee, a prophet to nations I have made thee.'
Avant que je te formasse dans le sein de ta mère, je t'ai connu; avant que tu sortisses de son sein, je t'ai sanctifié; je t'ai établi prophète pour les nations.
6 And I say, 'Ah, Lord Jehovah! lo, I have not known — to speak, for I [am] a youth.'
Et je répondis: Ah! Seigneur Éternel, voici, je ne sais point parler; car je suis un enfant!
7 And Jehovah saith unto me, 'Do not say, I [am] a youth, for to all to whom I send thee thou goest, and all that I command thee thou speakest.
Et l'Éternel me dit: Ne dis pas: je suis un enfant; car tu iras vers tous ceux à qui je t'enverrai, et tu diras tout ce que je te commanderai.
8 Be not afraid of their faces, for with thee [am] I to deliver thee, — an affirmation of Jehovah.'
Ne les crains point, car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer, dit l'Éternel.
9 And Jehovah putteth forth His hand, and striketh against my mouth, and Jehovah saith unto me, 'Lo, I have put my words in thy mouth.
Puis l'Éternel étendit sa main et toucha ma bouche. Et l'Éternel me dit: Voici, j'ai mis mes paroles dans ta bouche.
10 See, I have charged thee this day concerning the nations, and concerning the kingdoms, to pluck up, and to break down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.'
Regarde, je t'ai établi aujourd'hui sur les nations et sur les royaumes, pour que tu arraches et que tu démolisses, pour que tu ruines et que tu détruises, pour que tu bâtisses et que tu plantes.
11 And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying, 'What art thou seeing, Jeremiah?' And I say, 'A rod of an almond tree I am seeing.'
Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, disant: Que vois-tu, Jérémie? Et je répondis: Je vois une branche d'amandier.
12 And Jehovah saith unto me, 'Thou hast well seen: for I am watching over My word to do it.'
Et l'Éternel me dit: Tu as bien vu; car je veille sur ma parole pour l'exécuter.
13 And there is a word of Jehovah unto me a second time, saying, 'What art thou seeing?' And I say, 'A blown pot I am seeing, and its face [is] from the north.'
Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée une seconde fois, disant: Que vois-tu? Je répondis: Je vois une chaudière bouillante, du côté du Nord.
14 And Jehovah saith unto me, 'From the north is the evil loosed against all inhabitants of the land.
Et l'Éternel me dit: C'est du Nord que le mal se déchaînera sur tous les habitants du pays.
15 For, lo, I am calling for all families of the kingdoms of the north, — an affirmation of Jehovah — and they have come, and put each his throne at the opening of the gates of Jerusalem, and by its walls round about, and by all cities of Judah.
Car voici, je vais appeler toutes les tribus des royaumes du Nord, dit l'Éternel; ils viendront et mettront chacun leur trône à l'entrée des portes de Jérusalem, et contre toutes ses murailles à l'entour, et contre toutes les villes de Juda.
16 And I have spoken My judgments with them concerning all their evil, in that they have forsaken Me, and make perfume to other gods, and bow themselves to the works of their own hands.
Et je prononcerai mes jugements contre eux, à cause de toute leur méchanceté, parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné et ont offert des parfums à d'autres dieux et se sont prosternés devant l'ouvrage de leurs mains.
17 'And thou, thou dost gird up thy loins, and hast arisen, and spoken unto them all that I command thee: be not affrighted because of them, lest I affright thee before them.
Toi donc, ceins tes reins, lève-toi, et dis-leur tout ce que je te commanderai. Ne tremble pas devant eux, de peur que je ne te mette en pièces en leur présence.
18 And I, lo, I have given thee this day for a fenced city, and for an iron pillar, and for brazen walls over all the land, to the kings of Judah, to its heads, to its priests, and to the people of the land;
Car voici, je t'établis aujourd'hui comme une ville forte, comme une colonne de fer, et comme une muraille d'airain contre tout le pays: contre les rois de Juda, contre ses chefs, contre ses sacrificateurs et contre le peuple du pays.
19 and they have fought against thee, and they prevail not against thee; for with thee [am] I, — an affirmation of Jehovah — to deliver thee.
Ils combattront contre toi, mais ne pourront te vaincre; car je suis avec toi, dit l'Éternel, pour te délivrer.
