Jeremiah 26
1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, hath this word been from Jehovah, saying:
Au début du règne de Joïakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, la parole que voici arriva de la part de l’Eternel:
2 'Thus said Jehovah, Stand thou in the court of the house of Jehovah, and thou hast spoken unto all [those of] the cities of Judah who are coming in to bow themselves in the house of Jehovah, all the words that I have commanded thee to speak unto them, thou dost not diminish a word.
Ainsi parle l’Eternel: "Tiens-toi dans la cour de la maison de l’Eternel, et adresse aux gens de toutes les villes de Juda qui sont venus se prosterner dans la maison de l’Eternel toutes les paroles que je t’ordonne de leur adresser; n’en retranche pas un mot.
3 If so be they hearken, and turn back each from his evil way, then I have repented concerning the evil that I am thinking of doing to them, because of the evil of their doings.
Peut-être écouteront-ils, se repentiront-ils chacun de leur mauvaise conduite et pourrai-je révoquer le malheur que je me propose de leur infliger à cause de la perversité de leurs actes.
4 'And thou hast said unto them: Thus said Jehovah, If ye do not hearken unto Me, to walk in My law, that I set before you,
Tu leur diras donc: Ainsi parle l’Eternel: Si vous refusez de m’écouter, de suivre ma doctrine que j’ai promulguée devant vous,
5 To hearken to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I am sending unto you, yea, rising early and sending, and ye have not hearkened,
d’obéir aux paroles de mes serviteurs les prophètes que sans cesse et dès la première heure j’envoie vers vous, sans que vous leur prêtiez attention,
6 Then I have given up this house as Shiloh, and this city I give up for a reviling to all nations of the earth.'
je traiterai cette maison pareillement à silo, et de cette ville je ferai un objet de malédiction pour tous les peuples de la terre."
7 And the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, hear Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of Jehovah,
Or, les prêtres, les prophètes et tout le peuple entendirent Jérémie prononcer ces paroles dans la maison de Dieu.
8 And it cometh to pass, at the completion of Jeremiah's speaking all that Jehovah hath commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests, and the prophets, and all the people catch him, saying, Thou dost surely die,
Et quand Jérémie eut achevé de dire ce que l’Eternel lui avait ordonné de dire à tout le peuple, les prêtres, les prophètes et tout le peuple se saisirent de lui en s’écriant: "Il faut que tu meures!
9 Wherefore hast thou prophesied in the name of Jehovah, saying, 'As Shiloh this house shall be, and this city is wasted, without inhabitant?' and all the people are assembled unto Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah.
Pourquoi as-tu prophétisé au nom de l’Eternel en disant: Cette maison deviendra semblable à silo, et cette ville sera ruinée, privée d’habitants?" Tout le peuple s’attroupa autour de Jérémie dans la maison de Dieu.
10 And the heads of Judah hear these things, and they go up from the house of the king [to] the house of Jehovah, and sit in the opening of the new gate of Jehovah.
Lorsque les grands de Juda eurent connaissance de ces faits, ils se rendirent du palais du roi au Temple de l’Eternel et prirent place à l’entrée de la porte Neuve de l’Eternel.
11 And the priests and the prophets speak unto the heads, and unto all the people, saying, 'Judgment of death [is] for this man, for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.'
Alors les prêtres et les prophètes dirent aux grands et à tout le peuple: "Cet homme mérite la mort, car il a prophétisé contre cette ville, comme vous l’avez entendu de vos propres oreilles."
12 And Jeremiah speaketh unto all the heads, and unto all the people, saying, 'Jehovah sent me to prophesy concerning this house, and concerning this city, all the words that ye have heard;
Jérémie, s’adressant à tous les grands et au peuple entier, leur dit: "C’Est l’Eternel qui m’a envoyé pour prophétiser contre cette maison et contre cette ville toutes les paroles que vous avez entendues.
13 And now, amend your ways, and your doings, and hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God, and Jehovah doth repent concerning the evil that He hath spoken against you.
Or, donc, améliorez votre conduite et vos oeuvres, écoutez la voix de l’Eternel, votre Dieu, pour que l’Eternel révoque le malheur qu’il a décrété contre vous.
14 'And I, lo, I [am] in your hand, do to me as is good and as is right in your eyes;
Quant à moi, je suis en votre pouvoir, traitez-moi comme il vous paraîtra bon et équitable.
15 Only, know ye certainly, that if ye are putting me to death, surely innocent blood ye are putting on yourselves, and on this city, and on its inhabitants; for truly hath Jehovah sent me unto you to speak in your ears all these words.'
Toutefois, sachez bien que si vous me faites mourir, c’est du sang innocent que vous répandez sur vous, sur cette ville et ses habitants; car, en vérité, c’est l’Eternel qui m’a envoyé vers vous, pour faire entrer dans vos oreilles tous ces discours que je tiens."
16 And the heads and all the people say unto the priests and unto the prophets, 'There is not for this man a judgment of death, for in the name of Jehovah our God he hath spoken unto us.'
Alors les grands et tout le peuple dirent aux prêtres et aux prophètes: "Cet homme ne mérite pas la mort, car c’est au nom de l’Eternel, notre Dieu, qu’il nous a parlé."
17 And certain of the elders of the land rise up, and speak unto all the assembly of the people, saying,
Puis, quelques-uns parmi les anciens du pays se levèrent et s’adressèrent en ces termes à toute l’assemblée du peuple:
18 'Micah the Morashtite hath been prophesying in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and he saith unto all the people of Judah, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Zion is a plowed field, and Jerusalem is heaps, And the mountain of the house is for high places of a forest.
"Michée, de Moréchet, prophétisait du temps d’Ezechias, roi de Juda, et voici ce qu’il disait à tout le peuple de Juda: Ainsi a parlé l’Eternel-Cébaoth: Sion sera labourée comme un champ, Jérusalem deviendra un monceau de ruines et la montagne du Temple une hauteur boisée.
19 'Put him at all to death did Hezekiah king of Judah, and all Judah? Did he not fear Jehovah? yea, he appeaseth the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah repenteth concerning the evil that He spake against them; and we are doing great evil against our souls.
Ezéchias, roi de Juda, et tout le peuple de Juda l’ont-ils condamné à mourir? N’A-t-on pas craint l’Eternel et cherché à apaiser sa colère? Aussi l’Eternel révoqua-t-il le mal qu’il avait décrété contre eux; et nous, nous chargerions nos âmes d’un si grand crime!"
20 'And also there hath been a man prophesying in the name of Jehovah, Urijah son of Shemaiah, of Kirjath-Jearim, and he prophesieth against this city, and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah,
Il y eut encore un homme qui prophétisait au nom de l’Eternel: c’était Ouria, fils de Chemaya, de Kiriat-Yearim. II prophétisait contre cette ville et contre ce pays exactement dans les mêmes termes que Jérémie.
21 And the king Jehoiakim, and all his mighty ones, and all the heads, hear his words, and the king seeketh to put him to death, and Urijah heareth, and feareth, and fleeth, and goeth in to Egypt.
Le roi Joïakim eut connaissance de ses discours ainsi que tous ses hommes de guerre et tous les grands, et il chercha à le mettre à mort. Ouria en fut informé, il prit peur, s’enfuit et se rendit en Egypte.
22 And the king Jehoiakim sendeth men to Egypt — Elnathan son of Achbor, and men with him unto Egypt —
Alors le roi Joïakim envoya des gens en Egypte: c’était Elnathan, fils d’Akhbor, et quelques autres avec lui pour l’accompagner en Egypte.
23 And they bring out Urijah from Egypt, and bring him in unto the king Jehoiakim, and he smiteth him with a sword, and casteth his corpse unto the graves of the sons of the people.'
Ils firent sortir Ouria hors d’Egypte et l’amenèrent au roi Joïakim, qui le fit périr par le glaive et ordonna de jeter son cadavre parmi les tombes du bas peuple.
24 Only, the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan hath been with Jeremiah so as not to give him up into the hand of the people to put him to death.
Toutefois, Ahi’kam, fils de Chafan, protégea Jérémie et empêcha qu’il ne fût livré au pouvoir du peuple et mis à mort.
