Jeremiah 2

1 And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാട് ഇപ്രകാരം എനിക്കുണ്ടായി:

2 'Go, and thou hast called in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus said Jehovah: I have remembered for thee The kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, Thy going after Me in a wilderness, in a land not sown.

“പോയി ജെറുശലേം കേൾക്കെ വിളംബരംചെയ്യുക: “യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: “‘നിന്റെ യൗവനത്തിലെ ഭക്തിയും വിവാഹം നിശ്ചയിച്ച കാലത്തെ സ്നേഹവും മരുഭൂമിയിൽ വിതച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്ത ദേശത്ത് നീ എന്നെ അനുഗമിച്ചു നടന്നതും ഞാൻ ഓർക്കുന്നു.

3 Holy [is] Israel to Jehovah, The first-fruit of His increase, All consuming him are guilty, Evil cometh in unto them, an affirmation of Jehovah.

ഇസ്രായേൽ യഹോവയ്ക്കു വിശുദ്ധവും അവിടത്തെ വിളവിന്റെ ആദ്യഫലവും ആയിരുന്നു. അവളെ വിഴുങ്ങിക്കളഞ്ഞവരെയെല്ലാം കുറ്റവാളികളായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു, അത്യാപത്ത് അവരെ കീഴടക്കും,’” എന്ന് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാട്.

4 Hear a word of Jehovah, O house of Jacob, And all ye families of the house of Israel.

യാക്കോബുഗൃഹമേ, ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ സകലകുലങ്ങളുമേ, യഹോവയുടെ വാക്കു കേൾക്കുക.

5 Thus said Jehovah: What — have your fathers found in Me perversity, That they have gone far off from Me, And go after the vanity, and become vain,

യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു, “നിങ്ങളുടെ പൂർവികർ എന്നെ വിട്ട് ഇത്രമാത്രം അകന്നുപോകാൻ അവർ എന്നിൽ കണ്ട ദോഷം എന്ത്? അവർ മിഥ്യാമൂർത്തികളെ പിൻതുടർന്ന് സ്വയം കൊള്ളരുതാത്തവരായി തീർന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

6 And have not said, Where [is] Jehovah, Who bringeth us up out of the land of Egypt, Who leadeth us in a wilderness, In a land of deserts and pits, In a dry land, and of death-shade, In a land — none hath passed through it, Nor dwelt hath man there?'

‘ഞങ്ങളെ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെടുവിക്കുകയും വരണ്ട വിജനപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലൂടെയും മരുഭൂമിയിലൂടെയും പാഴ്നിലങ്ങളിലൂടെയും നടത്തുകയും വരൾച്ചയും കൂരിരുട്ടും ഉള്ള സ്ഥലത്തിലൂടെ, ആരും സഞ്ചരിക്കാത്തതും ആൾപ്പാർപ്പില്ലാത്തതുമായ ദേശത്തിലൂടെ, നടത്തിയ യഹോവ എവിടെ?’ എന്ന് അവർ ചോദിച്ചില്ല.

7 Yea, I bring you in to a land of fruitful fields, To eat its fruit and its goodness, And ye come in and defile My land, And Mine inheritance have made an abomination.

ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ ഫലഭൂയിഷ്ഠമായ ഒരു ദേശത്തേക്ക് അവിടത്തെ ഫലവും നന്മയും അനുഭവിക്കാൻ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. എന്നാൽ നിങ്ങൾ വന്ന് എന്റെ ദേശം അശുദ്ധമാക്കുകയും എന്റെ ഓഹരി അറപ്പുള്ളതാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

8 The priests have not said, 'Where [is] Jehovah?' And those handling the law have not known Me. And the shepherds transgressed against Me, And the prophets have prophesied by Baal, And after those who profit not have gone.

‘യഹോവ എവിടെ?’ എന്നു പുരോഹിതന്മാർ അന്വേഷിച്ചില്ല. ന്യായപ്രമാണം കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവർ എന്നെ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല; ഇസ്രായേല്യനേതാക്കന്മാർ എനിക്കെതിരേ മത്സരിച്ചു. മിഥ്യാമൂർത്തികളെ പിൻതുടർന്നുകൊണ്ട് പ്രവാചകന്മാർ ബാലിന്റെ നാമത്തിൽ പ്രവചിച്ചു.

9 Therefore, yet I plead with you, An affirmation of Jehovah, And with your sons' sons I plead.

അതിനാൽ ഞാൻ ഇനിയും നിങ്ങൾക്കെതിരേ വാദിക്കും,” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു. “നിങ്ങളുടെ മക്കളുടെ മക്കൾക്കെതിരേയും ഞാൻ വ്യവഹരിക്കും.

10 For, pass to the isles of Chittim, and see, And to Kedar send, and consider well, And see if there hath been like this:

“കിത്തീം തീരങ്ങളിലേക്കു കടന്നുചെന്നു നോക്കുക, കേദാരിലേക്ക് ആളയച്ച് ഇപ്രകാരമൊന്ന്, അവിടെയെങ്ങാനും സംഭവിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്നു സൂക്ഷ്മമായി അന്വേഷിക്കുക:

11 Hath a nation changed gods? (And they [are] no gods!) And My people hath changed its honour For that which doth not profit.

ഏതെങ്കിലുമൊരു ജനത തങ്ങളുടെ ദേവതകളെ മാറ്റിയിട്ടുണ്ടോ? (അവർ ദേവതകൾ അല്ലായിരുന്നിട്ടുകൂടി.) എന്നാൽ എന്റെ ജനം മിഥ്യാമൂർത്തികൾക്കുവേണ്ടി തങ്ങളുടെ തേജസ്സേറിയ ദൈവത്തെ മാറ്റിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

12 Be astonished, ye heavens, at this, Yea, be frightened, be greatly wasted, An affirmation of Jehovah.

ആകാശമേ, ഇതിൽ അമ്പരന്ന് മഹാഭീതിയിൽ നടുങ്ങുക,” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.

13 For two evils hath My people done, Me they have forsaken, a fountain of living waters, To hew out for themselves wells — broken wells, That contain not the waters.

“എന്റെ ജനം രണ്ടു പാപംചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു: അവർ ജീവജലത്തിന്റെ ഉറവയായ എന്നെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, അവർ സ്വന്തം ജലസംഭരണികൾ കുഴിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു വെള്ളം ശേഖരിക്കാൻ കഴിയാത്ത പൊട്ടിയ ജലസംഭരണികൾതന്നെ.

14 A servant [is] Israel? Is he a child of the house? Wherefore hath he been for a prey?

“ഇസ്രായേൽ ഒരു ദാസനോ വീട്ടിൽ ജനിച്ച ഒരു അടിമയോ? എന്തുകൊണ്ട് അവൻ കവർച്ചയായിത്തീർന്നു?

15 Against him roar do young lions, They have given forth their voice, And make his land become a desolation, His cities have been burnt without inhabitant.

സിംഹക്കുട്ടികൾ അലറി, അവർ അവനെതിരേ ശബ്ദമുയർത്തി. അവർ അവന്റെ ദേശത്തെ ശൂന്യമാക്കി, അവന്റെ പട്ടണങ്ങൾ നിവാസികളില്ലാതവണ്ണം ചുട്ടെരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

16 Also sons of Noph and Tahapanes Consume thee — the crown of the head!

നോഫിലെയും തഹ്പനേസിലെയും ജനം നിന്റെ തലയോട്ടി തകർക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

17 Dost thou not do this to thyself? [By] thy forsaking Jehovah thy God, At the time He is leading thee in the way?

നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നിന്നെ വഴി നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കെ, അവിടത്തെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചുകളയുക നിമിത്തം നീ തന്നെയല്ലേ ഇതു സമ്പാദിച്ചത്?

18 And now, what — to thee in the way of Egypt, To drink the waters of Sihor? And what — to thee in the way of Asshur, To drink the waters of the River?

എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ ഈജിപ്റ്റിലേക്കുള്ള നിന്റെ യാത്ര എന്തിന്? നൈൽനദിയിലെ വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുന്നതിനോ? അശ്ശൂരിലേക്കുള്ള നിന്റെ യാത്ര എന്തിന്? യൂഫ്രട്ടീസ് നദിയിലെ വെള്ളം കുടിക്കുന്നതിനോ?

19 Instruct thee doth thy wickedness, And thy backslidings reprove thee, Know and see that an evil and a bitter thing [Is] thy forsaking Jehovah thy God, And My fear not being on thee, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah of Hosts.

നിന്റെ ദുഷ്ടത നിന്നെ ശിക്ഷിക്കും; നിന്റെ വിശ്വാസത്യാഗം നിന്നെ ശാസിക്കും. എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഭയം നിനക്കില്ലാതെയായി നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നത് നിനക്കു ദോഷവും കയ്‌പും ആണെന്ന് കണ്ടറിഞ്ഞുകൊൾക,” എന്ന് സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയായ കർത്താവിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാട്.

20 For from of old thou hast broken thy yoke, Drawn away thy bands, and sayest, 'I do not serve,' For, on every high height, and under every green tree, Thou art wandering — a harlot.

“പണ്ടേതന്നെ നീ നിന്റെ നുകം തകർത്ത് നിന്റെ ബന്ധനങ്ങൾ പൊട്ടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; ‘ഞാൻ അങ്ങയെ സേവിക്കുകയില്ല!’ എന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾത്തന്നെ എല്ലാ ഉയർന്ന മലയിലും എല്ലാ ഇലതൂർന്ന മരത്തിൻകീഴിലും നീ ഒരു വേശ്യയായി കിടന്നു.

21 And I planted thee a choice vine, wholly a true seed, And how hast thou been turned to Me, To the degenerate shoots of a strange vine?

ഞാൻ നിന്നെ വിശിഷ്ടമായൊരു മുന്തിരിവള്ളിയായി, ഒരു നല്ല തൈയായിത്തന്നെ നട്ടിരുന്നു. നീ ഒരു കാട്ടുമുന്തിരിയായി അധഃപതിച്ച് എനിക്കെതിരേ തിരിഞ്ഞതെങ്ങനെ?

22 But though thou dost wash with nitre, And dost multiply to thyself soap, Marked is thine iniquity before Me, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.

കാരംകൊണ്ടു കഴുകിയാലും ധാരാളം സോപ്പുകൊണ്ടു കഴുകിയാലും നിന്റെ അകൃത്യത്തിന്റെ കറ എന്റെ മുമ്പിൽത്തന്നെ അവശേഷിക്കും,” എന്ന് യഹോവയായ കർത്താവിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാട്.

23 How sayest thou, 'I have not been defiled, After the Baalim I have not gone?' See thy way in a valley, know what thou hast done, A swift dromedary winding her ways,

“‘ഞാൻ മലിനയായിട്ടില്ല, ബാൽ വിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾക്കു പിമ്പേ പോയിട്ടുമില്ല,’ എന്ന് നിനക്ക് എങ്ങനെ പറയാൻകഴിയും? താഴ്വരയിൽ നീ എങ്ങനെ പെരുമാറി എന്നു നോക്കുക. നീ ചെയ്തത് എന്തെന്നു നീ മനസ്സിലാക്കുക. വഴിയിൽ അങ്ങോട്ടുമിങ്ങോട്ടും വിരണ്ടോടുന്ന ഒരു പെണ്ണൊട്ടകക്കുട്ടിയല്ലേ നീ?

24 A wild ass accustomed to a wilderness, In the desire of her soul she hath swallowed up wind, Her meeting — who doth turn her back? None seeking her do weary themselves, In her month they find her.

മരുഭൂമിയിൽ പരിചയിച്ച ഒരു കാട്ടുകഴുത, കാറ്റിന്റെ മണംപിടിച്ച് അലയുന്നു. അവളുടെ മദപ്പാടിൽനിന്ന് ആർക്ക് അവളെ തടയാൻ കഴിയും? ഒരു ആൺകഴുതയും അതിനെ അന്വേഷിച്ചു തളരുകയില്ല. ഇണചേരേണ്ട സമയത്ത് അവർ അവളെ കണ്ടെത്തും.

25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, And thy throat from thirst, And thou sayest, 'It is incurable, No, for I have loved strangers, and after them I go.'

നിന്റെ കാലിലെ ചെരിപ്പ് തേയുംവരെയും ദാഹിച്ചു തൊണ്ട വരളുംവരെയും അന്യദേവതകളെ പിന്തുടരരുത്. എന്നാൽ, ‘അതുകൊണ്ട് യാതൊരു പ്രയോജനവുമില്ല! ഞാൻ അന്യദേവതകളെ പ്രണയിക്കുന്നു, അവരുടെ പിന്നാലെ ഞാൻ പോകും’ എന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞു.

26 As the shame of a thief when he is found, So put to shame have been the house of Israel, They, their kings, their heads, And their priests, and their prophets,

“പിടിക്കപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ ഒരു മോഷ്ടാവ് ലജ്ജിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഇസ്രായേൽജനം ലജ്ജിച്ചുപോകുന്നു— അവരും അവരുടെ രാജാക്കന്മാരും പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും അവരുടെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരും പ്രവാചകന്മാരുംതന്നെ.

27 Saying to wood, 'My father [art] thou!' And to a stone, 'Thou hast brought me forth,' For they turned unto me the back and not the face, And in the time of their vexation, They say, 'Arise Thou, and save us.'

അവർ മരത്തടിയോട്, ‘നീ എന്റെ പിതാവാണ്’ എന്നും കല്ലിനോട്, ‘നീ എനിക്ക് ജന്മം നൽകിയവൾ’ എന്നും പറയുന്നു. അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ മുഖമല്ല, മുതുകുതന്നെ എന്റെനേരേ തിരിക്കുന്നു; എങ്കിലും ആപത്തിൽ അകപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ, ‘വരണമേ, ഞങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിക്കണമേ!’ എന്ന് അവർ പറയും.

28 And where [are] thy gods, that thou hast made to thyself? Let them arise, if they may save thee, In the time of thy vexation, For — the number of thy cities have been thy gods, O Judah,

എന്നാൽ നീ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ നിന്റെ ദേവന്മാർ എവിടെ? നീ ആപത്തിൽ അകപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ നിന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കാൻ അവർക്കു കഴിയുമെങ്കിൽ അവർ വന്നു നിന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കട്ടെ! അയ്യോ! യെഹൂദയേ, നിനക്ക് എത്ര പട്ടണങ്ങളുണ്ടോ, അത്രയും ദേവതകളും ഉണ്ടല്ലോ.

29 Why do ye strive with Me? All of you have transgressed against Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

“നിങ്ങൾ എന്നോടു വാദിക്കുന്നത് എന്തിന്? നിങ്ങളെല്ലാവരും എന്നോട് മത്സരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു,” എന്ന് യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.

30 In vain I have smitten your sons, Instruction they have not accepted, Devoured hath your sword your prophets, As a destroying lion.

“ഞാൻ നിന്റെ മക്കളെ അടിച്ചതു വ്യർഥം; അവർ ആ ശിക്ഷയ്ക്ക് അനുസൃതമായി പ്രതികരിച്ചില്ല. അത്യാർത്തിമൂത്ത സിംഹത്തെപ്പോലെ നിന്റെ വാൾ നിന്റെ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ വിഴുങ്ങിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

31 O generation, see ye the word of Jehovah: A wilderness have I been to Israel? A land of thick darkness? Wherefore have My people said, 'We mourned, We come not in again unto Thee.'

“ഈ തലമുറയിലുള്ള എന്റെ ജനമേ, യഹോവയുടെ വചനം ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക: “ഞാൻ ഇസ്രായേലിന് ഒരു മരുഭൂമിയും കൂരിരുൾ നിറഞ്ഞ ഒരു ദേശവുമായിട്ടാണോ ഇരുന്നത്? ‘ഞങ്ങൾ സ്വേച്ഛാചാരികൾ, ഞങ്ങൾ ഇനിയൊരിക്കലും നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരികയില്ല,’ എന്ന് എന്റെ ജനം പറയുന്നത് എന്തുകൊണ്ട്?

32 Doth a virgin forget her ornaments? A bride her bands? And My people have forgotten Me days without number.

ഒരു കന്യക തന്റെ ആഭരണങ്ങളും ഒരു വധു അവളുടെ വിവാഹവസ്ത്രവും മറക്കുമോ? എന്നിട്ടും എന്റെ ജനം എണ്ണമില്ലാത്ത ദിവസങ്ങളായി എന്നെ മറന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

33 What — dost thou make pleasing thy ways to seek love? Therefore even the wicked thou hast taught thy ways.

കാമുകരെ തേടാൻ നീ എത്ര വിദഗ്ധ? ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ദുർന്നടപ്പുകാരിക്കും നിന്നിൽനിന്നു ചില പാഠങ്ങൾ പഠിക്കാൻകഴിയും.

34 Also in thy skirts hath been found the blood of innocent needy souls, Not by digging have I found them, but upon all these.

ഭവനഭേദനം നടത്തുമ്പോഴല്ല നീ അവരെ പിടികൂടിയത്, എന്നിട്ടുകൂടി നിന്റെ വസ്ത്രങ്ങളിലും നിഷ്കളങ്കരായ സാധുക്കളുടെ രക്തം കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഇതിനെല്ലാം ഉപരി,

35 And thou sayest, 'Because I have been innocent, Surely turned back hath His anger from me?' Lo, I have been judged with thee, Because of thy saying, 'I have not sinned.'

‘ഞാൻ നിഷ്കളങ്കയാണ്; അവിടന്ന് എന്നോട് കോപിക്കുന്നില്ല,’ എന്നു നീ പറയുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ നിന്റെമേൽ ന്യായവിധി നടത്തും, ‘നോക്കൂ, ഞാൻ പാപം ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല,’ എന്നു നീ പറയുകയാൽത്തന്നെ.

36 What? thou art very vile to repeat thy way, Even of Egypt thou art ashamed, As thou hast been ashamed of Asshur,

നിന്റെ വഴി മാറ്റിക്കൊണ്ട് നീ ഇത്രയധികം ചുറ്റിനടക്കുന്നതെന്തിന്? അശ്ശൂരിനെപ്പറ്റി നീ ലജ്ജിച്ചതുപോലെ ഈജിപ്റ്റിനെക്കുറിച്ചും നീ ലജ്ജിച്ചുപോകും.

37 Also from this thou goest out, And thy hands on thy head, For Jehovah hath kicked at thy confidences, And thou dost not give prosperity to them!

ഈ സ്ഥലത്തുനിന്നു തലയിൽ കൈവെച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ഇറങ്ങിപ്പോകും, കാരണം നീ ആശ്രയിച്ചവരെ യഹോവ തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; അവരെക്കൊണ്ട് നിനക്കൊരു പ്രയോജനവും ലഭിക്കുകയില്ല.
