Jeremiah 15
1 And Jehovah saith unto me: Though Moses and Samuel should stand before Me, My soul is not toward this people, Send from before My face, and they go out.
Et le Seigneur me dit: Quand même Moïse et Samuël comparaîtraient devant ma face, mon âme n'est pas pour ce peuple; chasse-le et qu'il s'en aille.
2 And it hath come to pass, when they say to thee, Whither do we go out? that thou hast said unto them, Thus said Jehovah: Those who [are] for death — to death, And those who are for the sword, to the sword, And those who are for famine, to famine, And those who are for captivity, to captivity.
Et s'ils te disent: Où irons-nous? réponds, voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Vous irez les uns à la peste, les autres au glaive, d'autres à la famine, d'autres à la captivité, autant que ces fléaux en pourront frapper.
3 And I have appointed over them four kinds, an affirmation of Jehovah, The sword to slay, and the dogs to drag, And the fowl of the heavens, And the beast of the earth, to consume and to devour.
Et je les punirai de quatre manières, dit le Seigneur; il y aura le glaive pour égorger, les chiens pour déchirer, les bêtes de la terre et les oiseaux du ciel pour dévorer et consumer.
4 And I have given them for a trembling To all kingdoms of the earth, Because of Manasseh son of Hezekiah king of Judah, For that which he did in Jerusalem.
Et je les livrerai, pour leur affliction, à toutes les nations de la terre, à cause de Manassès, fils d'Ézéchias, roi de Juda, et de tout ce qu'il a fait dans Jérusalem?
5 For who hath pity on thee, O Jerusalem? And who doth bemoan for thee? And who turneth aside to ask of thy welfare?
Qui t'épargnera, Jérusalem? Qui craindra de te punir? Qui se penchera vers toi pour te rendre la paix.
6 Thou — thou hast left Me — an affirmation of Jehovah, Backward thou goest, And I stretch out My hand against thee, And I destroy thee, I have been weary of repenting,
Tu t'es détournée. de moi, dit le Seigneur, tu as reculé loin de moi; et j'étendrai la main sur toi, et je te détruirai, et je ne leur donnerai pas de rémission.
7 And I scatter them with a fan, in the gates the land, I bereaved, I have destroyed My people, From their ways they turned not back.
Et je les disperserai de toutes parts; aux portes mêmes de mon peuple, ils ont été privés de leurs enfants; ils ont perdu mon peuple par leurs méchancetés.
8 Its widows have been more to Me than the sand of the seas, I brought in to them — against the mother — A young man — a spoiler — at noon. I caused to fall upon her suddenly, wrath and trouble.
Les veuves chez eux ont été multipliées plus que le sable du rivage. J'ai en plein midi envoyé le malheur sur les fils et sur les mères; et la ville, soudain je l'ai frappée de trouble et de terreur.
9 Languished hath the bearer of seven, She hath breathed out her spirit, Gone in hath her sun while yet day, It hath been ashamed and confounded, And their residue to the sword I give up before their enemies, An affirmation of Jehovah.
Celle qui avait sept enfants en est privée; son âme a défailli; son soleil s'est couché au milieu du jour; elle a été confondue et maudite. Ce qui reste d'eux, je le livrerai au glaive en face de leurs ennemis.
10 Woe to me, my mother, For thou hast borne me a man of strife, And a man of contention to all the land, I have not lent on usury, Nor have they lent on usury to me — All of them are reviling me.
Hélas! ma mère, pourquoi m'avez-vous enfanté, pour être un homme de contradiction par toute la terre? Je n'ai été utile à personne, et personne ne m'a été utile; la force m'a manqué contre ceux qui me maudissent.
11 Jehovah said, Did I not direct thee for good? Did not I intercede for thee in a time of evil, And in a time of adversity, with the enemy?
Soit, Maître, qu'ils aient raison contre moi si je ne me suis tenu auprès de vous au temps de leurs calamités et au temps de leur tribulation, pour les servir contre leurs ennemis.
12 Doth one break iron — northern iron, and brass?
En vain le fer est connu de toi, en vain un vêtement d'airain
13 Thy strength and thy treasures For a prey I do give — not for price, Even for all thy sins, and in all thy borders.
est ta force; je livrerai tes trésors au pillage sur ton territoire entier pour prix de tous tes péchés,
14 And I have caused thine enemies To pass over into the land — Thou hast not known, For a fire hath been kindled in Mine anger, Against you it doth burn.
Et je t'asservirai à tes ennemis d'alentour, en une terre que tu ne connaissais pas; car le feu de ma colère est allumé, et il vous brûlera.
15 Thou, Thou hast known, O Jehovah, Remember me, and inspect me, And take vengeance for me of my pursuers, In Thy long-suffering take me not away, Know — I have borne for Thee reproach.
Seigneur, souvenez-vous de moi et visitez-moi; protégez-moi contre ceux qui me poursuivent, et ne tardez pas; sachez que c'est à cause de vous que je suis outragé
16 Thy words have been found, and I eat them, And Thy word is to me for a joy, And for the rejoicing of my heart, For Thy name is called on me, O Jehovah, God of Hosts.
Par ceux qui tiennent pour rien votre parole; exterminez-les, et votre parole fera mes délices et la joie de mon cœur, parce que j'ai été appelé de votre nom, Seigneur tout-puissant.
17 I have not sat in an assembly of deriders, Nor do I exult, because of thy hand, — Alone I have sat, For [with] indignation Thou hast filled me.
Je ne me suis point assis dans leur assemblée quand ils vous raillaient; mais j'ai été saisi de crainte en face de votre main; je me suis assis solitaire, parce que j'étais rempli d'amertume.
18 Why hath my pain been perpetual? And my wound incurable? It hath refused to be healed, Thou art surely to me as a failing stream, Waters not stedfast.
Pourquoi ceux qui m'affligent ont-ils prévalu sur moi? Ma blessure est profonde: comment en guérirai-je? me voici comme dans une eau trompeuse, à laquelle on ne peut se fier.
19 Therefore, thus said Jehovah: If thou turnest back, then I bring thee back, Before Me thou dost stand, And if thou bringest out the precious from the vile, As My mouth thou art! They — they turn back unto thee, And thou dost not turn back unto them.
A cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Si tu reviens toujours à moi, je te fortifierai, et tu resteras debout devant ma face; et si tu sépares le bien du mal, tu seras comme ma bouche, et ils reviendront à toi, sans que tu reviennes à eux.
20 And I have made thee to this people For a wall — brazen — fenced, And they have fought against thee, And they do not prevail against thee, For with thee [am] I to save thee, And to deliver thee — an affirmation of Jehovah,
Et je te donnerai contre ce peuple une défense et un rempart d'airain; et ils te combattront et ne pourront rien contre toi, parce que je suis avec toi pour te sauver
21 And I have delivered thee from the hand of evil doers, And I have ransomed thee From the hand of the terrible!
Et te retirer des mains des méchants, et je te rachèterai de la main des hommes de pestilence.
