Jeremiah 14
1 That which hath been the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah concerning the matters of the dearths:
Tämä on se sana, jonka Herra sanoi Jeremialle, kalliista ajasta:
2 Mourned hath Judah, and her gates have languished, They have mourned to the earth, And the cry of Jerusalem hath gone up.
Juuda murehtii, ja hänen porttinsa ovat hyljätyt, maassa ollaan surullisesti, ja Jerusalemissa on valitus.
3 And their honourable ones have sent their little ones to the water, They have come unto ditches, They have not found water, They have turned back — their vessels empty! They have been ashamed, And have blushed and covered their head.
Ylimmäiset lähettävät alamaisensa veden perään, mutta kuin he tulevat kaivolle, niin ei he löydä vettä, ja kantavat niin astiansa kotia tyhjänä jälleen; he käyvät surullisina ja häpeevät, ja peittävät päänsä,
4 Because the ground hath been broken, For there hath been no rain in the land, Ashamed have been husbandmen, They have covered their head.
Että maa pakahteli, ettei sada maan päälle, peltomiehet käyvät suruissansa ja peittävät päänsä,
5 For even the hind in the field hath brought forth — to forsake [it!] For there hath been no grass.
Sillä naaraspeurat, jotka kedolla poikivat, hylkäävät vasikkansa, ettei ruoho kasva.
6 And wild asses have stood on high places, They have swallowed up wind like dragons, Consumed have been their eyes, for there is no herb.
Ja metsä-aasit seisovat mäillä ja haistelevat tuulta niinkuin lohikärmeet, ja heidän silmänsä nääntyvät, ettei heinä kasva.
7 Surely our iniquities have testified against us, O Jehovah, work for Thy name's sake, For many have been our backslidings, Against Thee we have sinned.
Voi Herra, meidän pahat tekomme ovat sen kyllä ansainneet, mutta auta kuitenkin sinun nimes tähden; sillä meidän kovakorvaisuutemme on suuri, kuin me olemme sinua vastaan syntiä tehneet.
8 O Hope of Israel — its saviour in time of trouble, Why art Thou as a sojourner in the land? And as a traveller turned aside to lodge?
Sinä olet Israelin turva ja auttaja hädässä; miksis olet niinkuin muukalainen maassa, ja niinkuin vieras, joka siihen ainoasti yötyy?
9 Why art Thou as one dumb? As a mighty one not able to save? And Thou [art] in our midst, O Jehovah, And Thy name over us is called, leave us not.
Miksis olet niinkuin mies, joka on pelkuri, ja niinkuin väkevä, joka ei auttaa taida? Sinä olet kuitenkin meidän seassamme, Herra, ja me nimitetään sinun nimelläs; älä meitä hylkää.
10 Thus said Jehovah concerning this people: Well they have loved to wander, Their feet they have not restrained, And Jehovah hath not accepted them, Now doth He remember their iniquity, And inspect their sin.
Näin sanoo Herra tästä kansasta: he juoksevat mielellänsä sinne ja tänne, eikä pysy alallansa; sentähden ei he kelpaa Herralle, vaan hän muistaa kyllä heidän pahuutensa, ja tahtoo etsiä heidän syntejänsä.
11 And Jehovah saith unto me: Thou dost not pray for this people for good,
Ja Herra sanoi minulle: ei sinun pidä rukoileman tämän kansan edestä heidän hyväksensä.
12 When they fast, I hearken not unto their cry, And when they cause to ascend burnt-offering and present, I accept them not, For by sword, and by famine, And by pestilence, I am consuming them.
Sillä jos he paastoavat, en minä sittekään kuule heidän rukoustansa, ja jos he polttouhria ja ruokauhria uhraavat, niin ei ne minulle kelpaa; vaan minä lopetan heidät miekalla, nälällä ja rutolla.
13 And I say, 'Ah, Lord Jehovah, Lo, the prophets are saying to them: Ye do not see a sword, yea, famine is not to you, For true peace I give to you in this place.'
Niin minä sanoin: oi Herra, Herra, katso, prophetat sanovat heille: ei teidän pidä miekkaa näkemän, eikä saaman kallista aikaa, mutta minä annan teille hyvän rauhan tässä paikassa.
14 And Jehovah saith unto me: Falsehood the prophets are prophesying in My name, I did not send them, nor command them, Nor have I spoken unto them: A false vision, and divination, and vanity, And the deceit of their own heart, they are prophesying to you.
Ja Herra sanoi minulle: prophetat ennustavat valhetta minun nimeeni, en ole minä heitä lähettänyt enkä käskenyt, elikkä puhunut heidän kanssansa; he saarnaavat teille vääriä näkyjä, noituutta, turhuutta ja sydämensä petosta.
15 Therefore, thus said Jehovah concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, and I have not sent them, and they are saying, Sword and famine is not in this land: By sword and by famine are these prophets consumed.
Sentähden näin sanoo Herra niistä prophetaista, jotka minun nimeeni ennustavat: vaikka en minä heitä ole lähettänyt, ja kuitenkin he sanovat: ei miekan ja kalliin ajan pidä tähän maahan tuleman; ne prophetat pitää kuoleman miekalla ja nälällä.
16 And the people to whom they are prophesying, Are cast into out-places of Jerusalem, Because of the famine, and of the sword, And they have none burying them, Them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, And I have poured out upon them this evil.
Ja kansa, jolle he ennustavat, pitää nälästä ja miekasta siellä ja täällä Jerusalemin kaduilla makaavan, ja ei heillä pidä yhtään oleman, joka heitä hautaa, heitä ja heidän vaimojansa, poikiansa ja tyttäriänsä; ja minä tahdon kaataa heidän pahuutensa heidän päällensä.
17 And thou hast said unto them this word: Tears come down mine eyes night and day, And they do not cease, For, [with] a great breach, Broken hath been the virgin daughter of my people, A very grievous stroke.
Ja sinun pitää sanoman heille tämän sanan: minun silmäni vuotavat kyyneleitä yli yötä ja päivää, ja ei lakkaa; sillä neitsy, minun kansani tytär, on hirmuisesti vaivattu ja surkiasti lyöty.
18 If I have gone forth to the field, Then, lo, the pierced of the sword! And if I have entered the city, Then, lo, the diseased of famine! For both prophet and priest have gone up and down Unto a land that they knew not.
Jos minä menen kedolle, niin katso, siellä makaavat miekalla lyödyt; jos minä tulen kaupunkiin, niin katso, siellä makaavat nälästä nääntyneet; sillä prophetat ja papit pitää myös menemän pois siihen maahan, jota ei he tunne.
19 Hast Thou utterly rejected Judah? Zion hath Thy soul loathed? Wherefore hast Thou smitten us, And there is no healing to us? Looking for peace, and there is no good, And for a time of healing, and lo, terror.
Oletkos Juudan peräti hyljännyt, eli ilvottaako sielus Zionia? miksi sinä olet niin meitä lyönyt, ettei kenkään parantaa taida? Me toivoimme rauhaa, mutta ei tule mitään hyvää: parantamisen aikaa, ja katso, tässä on vielä nyt enempi vahinkoa.
20 We have known, O Jehovah, our wickedness, The iniquity of our fathers, For we have sinned against Thee.
Herra, me tunnemme jumalattoman menomme, ja isäimme pahat teot; sillä me olemme syntiä tehneet sinua vastaan.
21 Do not despise, for Thy name's sake, Dishonour not the throne of Thine honour, Remember, break not Thy covenant with us.
Mutta sinun nimes tähden älä anna meitä häväistyksi tulla, älä kunnias istuinta anna pilkatuksi tulla; muista siis, ja älä anna liittos meidän kanssamme lakata.
22 Are there among the vanities of the nations any causing rain? And do the heavens give showers? Art not Thou He, O Jehovah our God? And we wait for thee, for Thou — Thou hast done all these!
Ei ole kuitenkaan pakanain epäjumalain seassa, joka sateen antaa taitaa, ei taida taivas myöskään sataa; sinä ainoa olet Herra meidän Jumalamme, jonka päälle me toivomme, sillä sinä olet kaikki nämät tehnyt.
