< Isaiah 9 >
1 As the former time made light The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, So the latter hath honoured the way of the sea, Beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
Ka ko eni, ʻe ʻikai kei ʻi ai ha fakapoʻuli ʻi he fonua naʻe mamahi: ʻi he kuonga ʻi muʻa naʻa ne fakavaivaiʻi ʻae fonua ʻo Sepuloni mo e fonua ʻo Nafitali, ka kuo ne fakalelei ia ʻi he kuonga ki mui; ʻio, ʻi he hala ʻoe tahi, ʻi he tuʻa Sioatani, ʻi Kāleli ʻoe ngaahi puleʻanga.
2 The people who are walking in darkness Have seen a great light, Dwellers in a land of death-shade, Light hath shone upon them.
Ko e kakai naʻe ʻaʻeva ʻi he poʻuli kuo mamata ki he maama lahi: ko kinautolu naʻe nofo ʻi he fonua ʻoe ʻata ʻoe mate, kuo ulo kiate kinautolu ʻae maama.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, Thou hast made great its joy, They have joyed before Thee as the joy in harvest, As [men] rejoice in their apportioning spoil.
Kuo ke fakatokolahi ʻae puleʻanga, pea fakalahi mo ʻenau fiefia: ʻoku nau fiefia ʻi ho ʻao ʻo hangē ko e fiefia ʻi he ututaʻu, pea hangē ko e fiefia ʻae kakai ʻi heʻenau tufa ʻae koloa kuo vete.
4 Because the yoke of its burden, And the staff of its shoulder, the rod of its exactor, Thou hast broken as [in] the day of Midian.
He kuo ke fesiʻi ʻae haʻamo ʻo ʻene kavenga, pea mo e tokotoko ʻoku ai ki hono uma, mo e meʻa tā ʻa hono fili, ʻo hangē ko ia ne fai ʻi he ʻaho ʻo Mitiane.
5 For every battle of a warrior [is] with rushing, and raiment rolled in blood, And it hath been for burning — fuel of fire.
He ko e tau kotoa pē ʻoe tangata tau ʻoku ʻi he longoaʻa fakamaveuveu, mo e ngaahi kofu kuo tākai ʻi he toto; ka e hoko eni ʻi he vela mo e fefie ʻoe afi.
6 For a Child hath been born to us, A Son hath been given to us, And the princely power is on his shoulder, And He doth call his name Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace.
He kuo fanauʻi kiate kitautolu ʻae tamasiʻi, kuo foaki kiate kitautolu ʻae foha: pea ʻe ʻi hono uma ʻae pule: pea ʻe ui hono huafa ko Fakaofo, ko ʻAkonaki, ko e ʻOtua Māfimafi, ko e Tamai Taʻengata, ko e ʻEiki ʻoe Melino.
7 To the increase of the princely power, And of peace, there is no end, On the throne of David, and on his kingdom, To establish it, and to support it, In judgment and in righteousness, Henceforth, even unto the age, The zeal of Jehovah of Hosts doth this.
ʻI he tupu ʻo ʻene pule mo e melino ʻe ʻikai hano ngataʻanga, ʻi he nofoʻanga ʻo Tevita, pea ʻi hono puleʻanga, ke fakatonutonu ia, pea ke fokotuʻumaʻu ia ʻi he fakamaau pea mo e angatonu mei he ʻaho ni ʻo taʻengata. Ko e ʻofa ʻa Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau te ne fai ʻae meʻa ni.
8 A word hath the Lord sent into Jacob, And it hath fallen in Israel.
Naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova ʻae lea kia Sēkope, pea kuo tō ia ki ʻIsileli.
9 And the people have known — all of it, Ephraim, and the inhabitant of Samaria, In pride and in greatness of heart, saying,
Pea ʻe ʻilo ʻe he kakai kotoa pē, ʻio, ʻe ʻIfalemi mo ia ʻoku nofo ʻi Samēlia, ʻaia ʻoku pehē ʻi he laukau mo e mālohi ʻoe loto,
10 'Bricks have fallen, and hewn work we build, Sycamores have been cut down, and cedars we renew.'
“Kuo tō ki lalo ʻae makaʻumea, ka te mau langa ʻaki ʻae maka kuo tā: kuo tuʻusi ki lalo ʻae ngaahi sukamino, ka te mau fetongi ʻaki ia ʻae ngaahi sita.”
11 And Jehovah setteth the adversaries of Rezin on high above him, And his enemies he joineth together,
Ko ia ʻe fokotuʻu ʻe Sihova kia Lesini hono ngaahi fili, pea fakakau fakataha hono ngaahi fili;
12 Aram from before, and Philistia from behind, And they devour Israel with the whole mouth. With all this not turned back hath His anger, And still His hand is stretched out.
ʻAe kau Silia ʻi he potu hahake, pea mo e kau Filisitia ʻi he lulunga; pea te nau keina ʻa ʻIsileli ʻaki ʻae ngutu kuo fakamanga. Pea neongo ʻae meʻa ni kotoa pē ʻoku ʻikai taʻofi hono houhau, ka ʻoku kei mafao hono nima.
13 And the people hath not turned back unto Him who is smiting it, And Jehovah of Hosts they have not sought.
He ʻoku ʻikai tafoki mai ʻae kakai kiate ia ʻoku taaʻi ʻakinautolu, ʻoku ʻikai te nau kumi kia Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau.
14 And Jehovah cutteth off from Israel head and tail, Branch and reed — the same day,
Ko ia ʻe tuʻusi ʻe Sihova mei ʻIsileli ʻae ʻulu mo e iku, ʻae vaʻa mo e tefito, ʻi he ʻaho pe taha.
15 Elder, and accepted of face, he [is] the head, Prophet, teacher of falsehood, he [is] the tail.
Ko e motuʻa mo ia ʻoku ongoongolelei, ko e ʻulu ia; pea ko e palōfita ʻoku ako ʻaki ʻae loi, ko e iku ia.
16 And the eulogists of this people are causing to err, And its eulogised ones are consumed.
He ko e kau takimuʻa ʻoe kakai ni ʻoku nau fakahalaʻi ʻakinautolu; pea ʻe ʻauha ʻakinautolu kuo takiekina ʻiate kinautolu.
17 Therefore, over its young men the Lord rejoiceth not, And its orphans, and its widows He pitieth not, For every one [is] profane, and an evil doer, And every mouth is speaking folly. With all this not turned back hath His anger, And still His hand is stretched out.
Ko ia ʻe ʻikai fiemālie ʻa Sihova ʻi honau kau talavou, pe ʻaloʻofa ki heʻenau kau tamai mate mo e kau fefine kuo mate honau husepāniti: he ko e mālualoi mo e fai kovi ʻakinautolu kotoa pē, pea ʻoku lea vale ʻae ngutu kotoa pē. Pea neongo ʻae meʻa ni kotoa pē ʻoku ʻikai taʻofi hono houhau, ka ʻoku kei mafao hono nima.
18 For burned as a fire hath wickedness, Brier and thorn it devoureth, And it kindleth in thickets of the forest, And they lift themselves up, an exaltation of smoke!
He ʻoku vela ʻae angahala ʻo hangē ko e afi; ʻe keina ia ʻae ngaahi ʻakau talatala, pea ʻe tutu ʻi he matolu ʻoe vao lahi, pea te nau ʻalu hake ʻo hangē ko e puna hake ʻoe ʻohuafi.
19 In the wrath of Jehovah of Hosts Hath the land been consumed, And the people is as fuel of fire; A man on his brother hath no pity,
Ko e meʻa ʻi he houhau ʻo Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau ʻoku fakapoʻuli ai ʻae fonua, pea ko e kakai te nau hangē ko e fefie ʻoe afi: ʻe ʻikai mamae ha tangata ʻe tokotaha ki hono tokoua.
20 And cutteth down on the right, and hath been hungry, And he devoureth on the left, And they have not been satisfied, Each the flesh of his own arm they devour.
Pea te ne hamusi ʻi he potu toʻomataʻu, kae fiekaia; pea te ne kai ʻi he potu toʻohema, ka e ʻikai te nau mākona: ʻe kai ʻe he tangata taki taha ʻae kakano ʻo hono nima ʻoʻona:
21 Manasseh — Ephraim, and Ephraim — Manasseh, Together they [are] against Judah, With all this not turned back hath His anger. And still His hand is stretched out!
Ko Manase, kia ʻIfalemi; mo ʻIfalemi, kia Manase: pea ko kinaua fakatouʻosi te na kau fakataha ke fakamamahiʻi ʻa Siuta. Pea neongo ʻae meʻa ni kotoa pē ʻoku ʻikai taʻofi hono houhau, ka ʻoku kei mafao hono nima.
