Genesis 19
1 And two of the messengers come towards Sodom at even, and Lot is sitting at the gate of Sodom, and Lot seeth, and riseth to meet them, and boweth himself — face to the earth,
Ketika hari petang, kedua orang tadi— yang ternyata adalah malaikat— tiba di kota Sodom. Saat itu, Lot sedang duduk di pintu gerbang kota. Melihat mereka, dia bangkit menyambut dan bersujud untuk menghormati mereka.
2 and he saith, 'Lo, I pray you, my lords, turn aside, I pray you, unto the house of your servant, and lodge, and wash your feet — then ye have risen early and gone on your way;' and they say, 'Nay, but in the broad place we do lodge.'
Kata Lot kepada dua orang itu, “Tuan-tuan, silakan menginap di rumah saya malam ini. Kalian bisa mencuci kaki, dan besok kalian dapat melanjutkan perjalanan.” Jawab mereka, “Tidak. Kami akan bermalam di luar saja, di alun-alun kota.”
3 And he presseth on them greatly, and they turn aside unto him, and come in unto his house; and he maketh for them a banquet, and hath baked unleavened things; and they do eat.
Tetapi Lot terus mendesak mereka supaya mau menginap di rumahnya. Akhirnya mereka pun masuk ke rumah Lot, dan Lot menyiapkan makanan untuk mereka. Dia memanggang roti tanpa ragi, lalu mereka memakannya.
4 Before they lie down, the men of the city — men of Sodom — have come round about against the house, from young even unto aged, all the people from the extremity;
Sebelum mereka pergi tidur, semua laki-laki dari seluruh penjuru kota Sodom, tua maupun muda, datang mengepung rumah Lot.
5 and they call unto Lot and say to him, 'Where [are] the men who have come in unto thee to-night? bring them out unto us, and we know them.'
Mereka berteriak-teriak kepada Lot, “Di mana kedua orang yang menginap di rumahmu malam ini? Bawa mereka keluar, supaya kami bisa bersetubuh dengan mereka!”
6 And Lot goeth out unto them, to the opening, and the door hath shut behind him,
Kemudian Lot keluar dari dalam rumah dan menutup pintu di belakangnya supaya mereka tidak bisa masuk.
7 and saith, 'Do not, I pray you, my brethren, do evil;
Katanya kepada mereka, “Saudara-saudaraku, janganlah berbuat jahat seperti itu!
8 lo, I pray you, I have two daughters, who have not known any one; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do to them as [is] good in your eyes; only to these men do not anything, for therefore have they come in within the shadow of my roof.'
Mohon dengarkan saya! Saya punya dua anak perempuan yang masih perawan. Biarlah saya membawa mereka keluar untuk kalian sekarang, dan kalian boleh melakukan apa saja yang kalian mau kepada mereka. Tetapi jangan lakukan apa pun terhadap kedua laki-laki itu. Mereka adalah tamu di rumah saya, maka saya harus melindungi mereka!”
9 And they say, 'Come nigh hither;' they say also, 'This one hath come in to sojourn, and he certainly judgeth! now, we do evil to thee more than [to] them;' and they press against the man, against Lot greatly, and come nigh to break the door.
Tetapi orang-orang itu menjawab, “Berani-beraninya kamu mengatur kami! Kamu hanya pendatang di sini. Menyingkirlah dari situ! Kalau tidak, kami akan melakukan yang lebih buruk kepadamu daripada yang akan kami lakukan terhadap kedua orang itu!” Kemudian mereka menyerbu ke arah Lot hendak mendobrak pintu.
10 And the men put forth their hand, and bring in Lot unto them, into the house, and have shut the door;
Tetapi kedua malaikat itu membuka pintu dengan cepat dan menarik Lot masuk ke rumah, lalu langsung menutup pintu itu kembali.
11 and the men who [are] at the opening of the house they have smitten with blindness, from small even unto great, and they weary themselves to find the opening.
Dua malaikat itu membuat semua orang yang berdiri di luar menjadi buta, baik yang tua maupun yang muda, sehingga mereka tidak dapat menemukan pintunya.
12 And the men say unto Lot, 'Whom hast thou here still? son-in-law, thy sons also, and thy daughters, and all whom thou hast in the city, bring out from this place;
Lalu malaikat-malaikat itu berkata kepada Lot, “Siapa lagi keluargamu yang tinggal di kota ini? Kalau kamu memiliki anak laki-laki, anak perempuan, menantu, ataupun sanak saudara lainnya, bawalah mereka keluar dari kota ini!
13 for we are destroying this place, for their cry hath been great [before] the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah doth send us to destroy it.'
Kami diutus TUHAN untuk menghancurkan tempat ini, karena berdasarkan keluhan-keluhan yang didengar TUHAN, penduduk kota ini sudah jahat sekali.”
14 And Lot goeth out, and speaketh unto his sons-in-law, those taking his daughters, and saith, 'Rise, go out from this place, for Jehovah is destroying the city;' and he is as [one] mocking in the eyes of his sons-in-law.
Maka pergilah Lot menemui kedua calon menantunya dan berkata, “Cepat! Keluar dari kota ini, karena TUHAN akan segera menghancurkannya!” Namun, mereka menganggap Lot sedang bercanda.
15 And when the dawn hath ascended, then the messengers press upon Lot, saying, 'Rise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters who are found present, lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.'
Menjelang fajar, kedua malaikat itu mendesak Lot agar bergegas, “Cepatlah! Bawa istrimu dan kedua anak gadismu pergi dari sini! Kalau tidak, kalian akan ikut mati waktu kami menghancurkan kota ini!”
16 And he lingereth, and the men lay hold on his hand, and on the hand of his wife, and on the hand of his two daughters, through the mercy of Jehovah unto him, and they bring him out, and cause him to rest without the city.
Ketika Lot belum bergerak juga, kedua malaikat itu langsung memegang tangannya dan tangan istrinya serta kedua anak gadisnya, lalu menarik mereka keluar dari kota itu dengan aman. Para malaikat melakukan itu karena TUHAN berbelas kasih kepada Lot dan keluarganya.
17 And it cometh to pass when he hath brought them out without, that he saith, 'Escape for thy life; look not expectingly behind thee, nor stand thou in all the circuit; to the mountain escape, lest thou be consumed.'
Sesampainya mereka di luar kota, salah satu malaikat itu berkata, “Larilah untuk menyelamatkan nyawamu! Jangan menoleh ke belakang! Jangan berhenti di lembah! Larilah ke daerah perbukitan supaya kalian tidak mati!”
18 And Lot saith unto them, 'Not [so], I pray thee, my lord;
Tetapi kata Lot kepada mereka, “Aduh, jangan begitu, Tuan-tuanku!
19 lo, I pray thee, thy servant hath found grace in thine eyes, and thou dost make great thy kindness which thou hast done with me by saving my life, and I am unable to escape to the mountain, lest the evil cleave [to] me, and I have died;
Tuan sudah sangat berbaik hati dengan menyelamatkan nyawa saya. Tetapi daerah perbukitan itu terlalu jauh! Kalau saya berusaha lari ke sana, saya akan mati sebelum sampai.
20 lo, I pray thee, this city [is] near to flee thither, and it [is] little; let me escape, I pray thee, thither, (is it not little?) and my soul doth live.'
Tetapi lihat, di sebelah situ ada kampung yang cukup dekat dari sini. Izinkanlah kami pergi ke kampung kecil itu supaya kami selamat.”
21 And he saith unto him, 'Lo, I have accepted thy face also for this thing, without overthrowing the city [for] which thou hast spoken;
Salah satu malaikat itu berkata, “Baiklah, saya mengabulkan permintaanmu. Saya tidak akan menghancurkan kampung kecil itu.
22 haste, escape thither, for I am not able to do anything till thine entering thither;' therefore hath he calleth the name of the city Zoar.
Tetapi cepat! Larilah ke sana, karena saya tidak bisa mulai menjatuhkan hukuman sebelum kalian sampai di sana.” Sesudah peristiwa ini, kampung tersebut dinamai Zoar, karena Lot mengatakan bahwa kampung itu kecil.
23 The sun hath gone out on the earth, and Lot hath entered into Zoar,
Lot dan keluarganya tiba di kampung yang sekarang dinamai Zoar itu sesudah matahari terbit.
24 and Jehovah hath rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah, from the heavens;
Kemudian TUHAN menjatuhkan api dan belerang ke atas Sodom dan Gomora, seperti hujan dari langit.
25 and He overthroweth these cities, and all the circuit, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which is shooting up from the ground.
Demikianlah TUHAN menghancurkan kedua kota itu dan semua penduduk di dalamnya. Dia juga menghancurkan segala sesuatu yang ada di lembah itu, termasuk seluruh tumbuhan.
26 And his wife looketh expectingly from behind him, and she is — a pillar of salt!
Namun, istri Lot berhenti di tengah jalan dan menoleh ke belakang, maka dia mati dan menjadi tiang garam.
27 And Abraham riseth early in the morning, unto the place where he hath stood [before] the face of Jehovah;
Pagi itu, Abraham bangun dan segera pergi ke tempat dia bercakap-cakap dengan TUHAN kemarin.
28 and he looketh on the face of Sodom and Gomorrah, and on all the face of the land of the circuit, and seeth, and lo, the smoke of the land went up as smoke of the furnace.
Saat memandang ke arah Sodom dan Gomora, dia melihat seluruh lembah itu berasap tebal, seperti asap dari tungku yang sangat besar.
29 And it cometh to pass, in God's destroying the cities of the circuit, that God remembereth Abraham, and sendeth Lot out of the midst of the overthrow in the overthrowing of the cities in which Lot dwelt.
Jadi, TUHAN mengingat permintaan Abraham ketika Dia memusnahkan kota-kota di lembah itu. Itulah sebabnya Lot diselamatkan dari bencana yang terjadi di sana.
30 And Lot goeth up out of Zoar, and dwelleth in the mountain, and his two daughters with him, for he hath been afraid of dwelling in Zoar, and he dwelleth in a cave, he and his two daughters.
Lot takut untuk tinggal di Zoar, maka dia meninggalkan kampung itu dan pindah ke gunung bersama kedua anak gadisnya. Di sana, mereka tinggal di sebuah gua.
31 And the first-born saith unto the younger, 'Our father [is] old, and a man there is not in the earth to come in unto us, as [is] the way of all the earth;
Suatu hari, anak gadis Lot yang sulung berkata kepada adiknya, “Aduh, dengan siapa kita akan menikah di tempat yang sunyi ini! Tidak ada lagi laki-laki. Ayah kita sudah terlalu tua untuk mengurus pernikahan seperti yang dilakukan di daerah-daerah lain.
32 come, we cause our father to drink wine, and lie with him, and preserve from our father — a seed.'
Mari kita membuat ayah kita mabuk dengan minum anggur sehingga dia tidak sadar, lalu kita bisa bersetubuh dengannya. Dengan cara inilah kita dapat menyambung keturunan keluarga kita.”
33 And they cause their father to drink wine on that night; and the first-born goeth in, and lieth with her father, and he hath not known in her lying down, or in her rising up.
Malam itu, mereka berhasil membuat Lot mabuk. Lalu anak gadis yang sulung masuk dan bersetubuh dengan ayahnya. Lot tidak tahu apa-apa karena dia sudah terlalu mabuk.
34 And it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that the first-born saith unto the younger, 'Lo, I have lain yesterday-night with my father: we cause him to drink wine also to-night, and go thou in, lie with him, and we preserve from our father — a seed.'
Keesokan harinya, anak gadis Lot yang sulung itu berkata lagi kepada adiknya, “Tadi malam aku sudah tidur dengan ayah kita! Nanti malam, kita buat dia mabuk lagi. Lalu kamu tidurlah dengannya, supaya kita masing-masing mendapat anak.”
35 And they cause their father to drink wine on that night also, and the younger riseth and lieth with him, and he hath not known in her lying down, or in her rising up.
Maka malam itu mereka membuat Lot mabuk lagi, kemudian anak gadis yang bungsu juga bersetubuh dengan ayahnya. Kali ini pun Lot terlalu mabuk sehingga dia tidak tahu apa yang terjadi.
36 And the two daughters of Lot conceive from their father,
Dengan demikian, kedua anak gadis Lot hamil dari ayah mereka.
37 and the first-born beareth a son, and calleth his name Moab; he [is] father of Moab unto this day;
Kakaknya melahirkan anak laki-laki yang dia namai Moab. Anak ini menjadi nenek moyang dari bangsa Moab.
38 as to the younger, she also hath born a son, and calleth his name Ben-Ammi: he [is] father of the Beni-Ammon unto this day.
Adiknya melahirkan seorang anak laki-laki juga, yang dia namai Ben Ami. Dialah yang menjadi nenek moyang dari bangsa Amon.
