< Genesis 17 >

1 And Abram is a son of ninety and nine years, and Jehovah appeareth unto Abram, and saith unto him, 'I [am] God Almighty, walk habitually before Me, and be thou perfect;
Pea ʻi he hivangofulu ma hiva taʻu ʻoe motuʻa ʻo ʻEpalame naʻe hā mai ʻa Sihova kia ʻEpalame, ʻo ne pehē kiate ia, “Ko au, ko e ʻOtua Māfimafi; ke ke ʻeveʻeva ʻi hoku ʻao, pea ke haohaoa.
2 and I give My covenant between Me and thee, and multiply thee very exceedingly.'
Pea te u fai ʻa ʻeku fuakava ʻiate koe mo au, pea te u fakatokolahi ʻaupito koe.”
3 And Abram falleth upon his face, and God speaketh with him, saying,
Pea tō foʻohifo ʻa ʻEpalame ki he kelekele pea folofola ʻae ʻOtua kiate ia, ʻo pehē;
4 'I — lo, My covenant [is] with thee, and thou hast become father of a multitude of nations;
“Ko au eni, Vakai, ʻoku ʻiate koe ʻeku fuakava, pea te ke hoko ko e tamai ki he ngaahi puleʻanga lahi;
5 and thy name is no more called Abram, but thy name hath been Abraham, for father of a multitude of nations have I made thee;
Pea ʻe ʻikai toe ui ho hingoa ko ʻEpalame, ka ko ʻEpalahame ho hingoa, he kuo u ngaohi koe “ko e tamai ki he ngaahi puleʻanga lahi.”
6 and I have made thee exceeding fruitful, and made thee become nations, and kings go out from thee.
Pea te u ngaohi koe ke ke tupu ʻo tokolahi ʻaupito, pea te u ngaohi ʻae ngaahi puleʻanga lahi ʻiate koe, pea ʻe tupu ʻae ngaahi tuʻi ʻiate koe.
7 'And I have established My covenant between Me and thee, and thy seed after thee, to their generations, for a covenant age-during, to become God to thee, and to thy seed after thee;
Pea te u fakamaau ʻeku fuakava kiate koe, mo ho hako ʻe tupu ʻiate koe ʻamui, ʻi heʻenau ngaahi toʻutangata, ko e fuakava taʻengata, ke u ʻiate koe, ko e ʻOtua, pea ki ho hako ki mui ʻiate koe.
8 and I have given to thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land of thy sojournings, the whole land of Canaan, for a possession age-during, and I have become their God.'
Pea te u foaki kiate koe, pea mo ho hako ʻe hoko mo koe, ʻae fonua ʻoku ke ʻāunofo ki ai, ʻio ʻae fonua kotoa pē ʻo Kēnani, ko e tofiʻa taʻengata; pea teu ʻiate kinautolu ko honau ʻOtua.”
9 And God saith unto Abraham, 'And thou dost keep My covenant, thou and thy seed after thee, to their generations;
Pea pehē ʻe he ʻOtua kia ʻEpalahame, “Ko ia te ke tauhi ai ʻeku fuakava, ʻa koe mo ho hako ʻe hoko mo koe ʻi honau ngaahi toʻutangata.
10 this [is] My covenant which ye keep between Me and you, and thy seed after thee: Every male of you [is] to be circumcised;
Ko eni ʻa ʻeku fuakava, ʻaia te mou tauhi, kiate au mo kimoutolu mo ho hako ʻe tupu ʻamui ʻiate koe; E kamu ʻae tamasiʻi tangata kotoa pē ʻoku ʻiate kimoutolu.
11 and ye have circumcised the flesh of your foreskin, and it hath become a token of a covenant between Me and you.
Pea te mou kamu ʻae kili ʻo homou potu; pea ko e fakaʻilonga ia ʻoe fuakava kiate au mo kimoutolu.
12 'And a son of eight days is circumcised by you; every male to your generations, born in the house, or bought with money from any son of a stranger, who is not of thy seed;
Pea ko ia ʻiate kimoutolu ʻoku ʻaho valu hono motuʻa ʻe kamu ia, ʻae tama tangata kotoa pē ʻi homou ngaahi toʻutangata, ko ia kuo fanauʻi ho fale, mo ia ʻoku ʻikai ʻi hoʻo fānau, ka kuo fakatauʻaki hoʻo koloa mei he muli.
13 he is certainly circumcised who [is] born in thine house, or bought with thy money; and My covenant hath become in your flesh a covenant age-during;
Ko ia ʻe tupu ʻi ho fale, mo ia kuo fakatauʻaki hoʻo koloa ke ke kamu ia; pea ʻe ʻi homou sino ʻeku fuakava, ko e fuakava taʻengata ia.
14 and an uncircumcised one, a male, the flesh of whose foreskin is not circumcised, even that person hath been cut off from his people; My covenant he hath broken.'
Pea ko e tamasiʻi taʻekamu, ʻe motuhi ʻae laumālie ko ia mei hono kakai; he kuo ne siʻaki ʻeku fuakava.”
15 And God saith unto Abraham, 'Sarai thy wife — thou dost not call her name Sarai, for Sarah [is] her name;
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe he ʻOtua kia ʻEpalahame, “Pea koeʻuhi ko Selai ko ho uaifi, ʻe ʻikai te ke ui hono hingoa ko Selai, ka ko Sela hono hingoa.
16 and I have blessed her, and have also given to thee a son from her; and I have blessed her, and she hath become nations — kings of peoples are from her.'
Pea te u tāpuaki ia, ʻo tuku kiate koe ʻae foha ʻiate ia; ʻio, te u tāpuaki ia, pea ʻe hoko ia, ko e faʻē ki he ngaahi puleʻanga; ʻe tupu ʻiate ia ʻae ngaahi tuʻi ʻoe kakai.”
17 And Abraham falleth upon his face, and laugheth, and saith in his heart, 'To the son of an hundred years is one born? or doth Sarah — daughter of ninety years — bear?'
Pea tō foʻohifo ai ʻa ʻEpalahame ki he kelekele pea kata, ʻo ne pehē ʻi hono loto, “E tupu ha tama ʻiate ia ʻoku teau taʻu hono motuʻa? Pea ʻe feitama ʻa Sela, ʻaia ʻoku hivangofulu hono taʻu?
18 And Abraham saith unto God, 'O that Ishmael may live before Thee;'
Pea pehēange ʻe ʻEpalahame ki he ʻOtua, ʻofa ke moʻui ʻa ʻIsimeʻeli ʻi ho ʻao.”
19 and God saith, 'Sarah thy wife is certainly bearing a son to thee, and thou hast called his name Isaac, and I have established My covenant with him, for a covenant age-during, to his seed after him.
Pea pehē ʻe he ʻOtua, “Ko e moʻoni ʻe fanauʻi ʻe ho uaifi ko Sela, ha tama kiate koe; pea te ke ui hono hingoa ko ʻAisake: pea te u fakamaau ʻeku fuakava kiate ia, ko e fuakava taʻengata pea mo hono hako ʻe hoko mo ia.
20 As to Ishmael, I have heard thee; lo, I have blessed him, and made him fruitful, and multiplied him, very exceedingly; twelve princes doth he beget, and I have made him become a great nation;
21 and My covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah doth bear to thee at this appointed time in the next year;'
Ka ko ʻeku fuakava te u fakamaau ia kia ʻAisake, ʻaia ʻe fanauʻi ʻe Sela kiate koe, ʻi he kuonga totonu ʻi he taʻu ʻe hoko mai ni.”
22 and He finisheth speaking with him, and God goeth up from Abraham.
Pea ngata ai ʻene lea kiate ia, pea hāʻele hake ʻae ʻOtua meia ʻEpalahame.
23 And Abraham taketh Ishmael his son, and all those born in his house, and all those bought with his money — every male among the men of Abraham's house — and circumciseth the flesh of their foreskin, in this self-same day, as God hath spoken with him.
Pea ʻave ʻe ʻEpalahame hono foha ko ʻIsimeʻeli, mo kinautolu kotoa pē naʻe fāʻele ʻi hono fale, mo kinautolu kotoa pē naʻe fakatauʻaki ʻene koloa: ʻae tama tangata kotoa pē ʻi he fale ʻo ʻEpalahame; ʻo ne kamu ʻakinautolu ʻi he ʻaho ko ia, ʻo hangē ko ia naʻe folofolaʻaki ʻe he ʻOtua kiate ia.
24 And Abraham [is] a son of ninety and nine years in the flesh of his foreskin being circumcised;
Pea naʻe hivangofulu ma hiva taʻu ʻae motuʻa ʻo ʻEpalahame, ʻi hono kamu.
25 and Ishmael his son [is] a son of thirteen years in the flesh of his foreskin being circumcised;
Pea naʻe hongofulu ma tolu taʻu hono foha ko ʻIsimeʻeli, ʻi he kamu ʻae kili ʻo hono potu.
26 in this self-same day hath Abraham been circumcised, and Ishmael his son;
‌ʻI he ʻaho pe taha ko ia naʻe kamu ai ʻa ʻEpalahame mo hono foha ko ʻIsimeʻeli,
27 and all the men of his house — born in the house, and bought with money from the son of a stranger — have been circumcised with him.
Pea mo e tangata kotoa pē ʻo hono fale, naʻe tupu ʻi hono fale, pe fakatauʻaki ʻene koloa mei he muli, naʻa nau kamu kotoa pē mo ia.
