Genesis 17

1 And Abram is a son of ninety and nine years, and Jehovah appeareth unto Abram, and saith unto him, 'I [am] God Almighty, walk habitually before Me, and be thou perfect;

Als nun Abram neunundneunzig Jahre alt war, erschien ihm der HERR und sagte zu ihm: »Ich bin der allmächtige Gott: wandle vor mir und sei fromm!

2 and I give My covenant between Me and thee, and multiply thee very exceedingly.'

Ich will einen Bund zwischen mir und dir stiften und dich überaus zahlreich werden lassen.«

3 And Abram falleth upon his face, and God speaketh with him, saying,

Da warf sich Abram auf sein Angesicht nieder; Gott aber redete weiter mit ihm so:

4 'I — lo, My covenant [is] with thee, and thou hast become father of a multitude of nations;

»Wisse wohl: mein Bund mit dir geht dahin, daß du der Stammvater einer Menge von Völkern werden sollst.

5 and thy name is no more called Abram, but thy name hath been Abraham, for father of a multitude of nations have I made thee;

Darum sollst du hinfort nicht mehr Abram heißen, sondern dein Name soll jetzt Abraham lauten; denn zum Stammvater einer Menge von Völkern habe ich dich bestimmt.

6 and I have made thee exceeding fruitful, and made thee become nations, and kings go out from thee.

Ich will dich also überaus zahlreich werden lassen und dich zu (ganzen) Völkern machen; auch Könige sollen von dir abstammen.

7 'And I have established My covenant between Me and thee, and thy seed after thee, to their generations, for a covenant age-during, to become God to thee, and to thy seed after thee;

Und ich will meinen Bund errichten zwischen mir und dir und deinen Nachkommen nach dir, Geschlecht für Geschlecht, als einen ewigen Bund, um dein Gott zu sein und (der Gott) deiner Nachkommen nach dir.

8 and I have given to thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land of thy sojournings, the whole land of Canaan, for a possession age-during, and I have become their God.'

Und ich will dir und deinen Nachkommen nach dir das Land, in dem du (jetzt) als Fremdling weilst, nämlich das ganze Land Kanaan, zum ewigen Besitz geben und will ihr Gott sein.«

9 And God saith unto Abraham, 'And thou dost keep My covenant, thou and thy seed after thee, to their generations;

Weiter sagte Gott zu Abraham: »Was dich aber betrifft, so sollst du den Bund mit mir halten, du samt deinen Nachkommen nach dir, Geschlecht für Geschlecht!

10 this [is] My covenant which ye keep between Me and you, and thy seed after thee: Every male of you [is] to be circumcised;

Dies aber ist mein Bund, den ihr halten sollt und der zwischen mir und euch und deinen Nachkommen nach dir besteht: Alles Männliche soll bei euch beschnitten werden!

11 and ye have circumcised the flesh of your foreskin, and it hath become a token of a covenant between Me and you.

Und zwar sollt ihr am Fleisch eurer Vorhaut beschnitten werden: das soll das Zeichen des Bundes zwischen mir und euch sein!

12 'And a son of eight days is circumcised by you; every male to your generations, born in the house, or bought with money from any son of a stranger, who is not of thy seed;

Jedes Knäblein soll im Alter von acht Tagen bei euch die Beschneidung empfangen, Geschlecht für Geschlecht, auch der im Hause geborene, sowie der für Geld von irgendeinem Fremden gekaufte Knecht, mag er auch nicht zu deiner Nachkommenschaft gehören.

13 he is certainly circumcised who [is] born in thine house, or bought with thy money; and My covenant hath become in your flesh a covenant age-during;

Ja, beschnitten soll werden sowohl der in deinem Hause geborene als auch der für Geld von dir gekaufte Knecht: darin soll mein Bundeszeichen an eurem Leibe bestehen als ein ewiges Bundeszeichen!

14 and an uncircumcised one, a male, the flesh of whose foreskin is not circumcised, even that person hath been cut off from his people; My covenant he hath broken.'

Ein unbeschnittener Männlicher aber, der am Fleisch seiner Vorhaut nicht beschnitten worden ist – ein solcher Mensch soll aus seinen Volksgenossen ausgerottet werden: meinen Bund hat er gebrochen!«

15 And God saith unto Abraham, 'Sarai thy wife — thou dost not call her name Sarai, for Sarah [is] her name;

Weiter sprach Gott zu Abraham: »Deine Frau Sarai sollst du nicht mehr Sarai nennen, sondern Sara soll ihr Name sein.

16 and I have blessed her, and have also given to thee a son from her; and I have blessed her, and she hath become nations — kings of peoples are from her.'

Denn ich will sie segnen und dir auch von ihr einen Sohn geben; ja ich will sie segnen, daß sie zu (ganzen) Völkern werden soll; sogar Könige von Völkerschaften sollen von ihr abstammen.«

17 And Abraham falleth upon his face, and laugheth, and saith in his heart, 'To the son of an hundred years is one born? or doth Sarah — daughter of ninety years — bear?'

Da warf sich Abraham auf sein Angesicht nieder und lachte; denn er dachte bei sich: »Einem Hundertjährigen soll noch (ein Sohn) geboren werden? Und die neunzigjährige Sara soll noch Mutter werden?«

18 And Abraham saith unto God, 'O that Ishmael may live before Thee;'

So sagte denn Abraham zu Gott: »Ach möchte nur Ismael vor dir am Leben bleiben!«

19 and God saith, 'Sarah thy wife is certainly bearing a son to thee, and thou hast called his name Isaac, and I have established My covenant with him, for a covenant age-during, to his seed after him.

Doch Gott antwortete: »Ganz gewiß wird deine Frau Sara dir einen Sohn gebären, den du Isaak nennen sollst; und ich will meinen Bund mit ihm aufrichten als einen ewigen Bund für seine Nachkommen nach ihm.

20 As to Ishmael, I have heard thee; lo, I have blessed him, and made him fruitful, and multiplied him, very exceedingly; twelve princes doth he beget, and I have made him become a great nation;

Aber auch in betreff Ismaels habe ich dich erhört; wisse wohl: ich will ihn segnen und fruchtbar werden lassen und ihm eine überaus zahlreiche Nachkommenschaft verleihen: zwölf Fürsten soll er zu Nachkommen haben, und zu einem großen Volke will ich ihn machen.

21 and My covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah doth bear to thee at this appointed time in the next year;'

Jedoch meinen Bund will ich mit Isaak aufrichten, der dir von Sara übers Jahr um diese Zeit geboren werden soll.«

22 and He finisheth speaking with him, and God goeth up from Abraham.

Als Gott nun seine Unterredung mit Abraham beendet hatte, fuhr er (zum Himmel) empor von Abraham weg.

23 And Abraham taketh Ishmael his son, and all those born in his house, and all those bought with his money — every male among the men of Abraham's house — and circumciseth the flesh of their foreskin, in this self-same day, as God hath spoken with him.

Darauf nahm Abraham seinen Sohn Ismael und alle in seinem Hause geborenen Knechte sowie alle für Geld von ihm gekauften Knechte, alle männlichen Personen unter den Leuten in seinem Hause, und vollzog die Beschneidung an ihnen noch an eben diesem Tage, wie Gott es ihm geboten hatte.

24 And Abraham [is] a son of ninety and nine years in the flesh of his foreskin being circumcised;

Abraham war aber neunundneunzig Jahre alt, als er vorschriftsgemäß beschnitten wurde,

25 and Ishmael his son [is] a son of thirteen years in the flesh of his foreskin being circumcised;

und sein Sohn Ismael war dreizehn Jahre alt, als man ihn vorschriftsgemäß beschnitt.

26 in this self-same day hath Abraham been circumcised, and Ishmael his son;

An einem und demselben Tage wurden Abraham und sein Sohn Ismael beschnitten;

27 and all the men of his house — born in the house, and bought with money from the son of a stranger — have been circumcised with him.

und mit ihm wurden alle männlichen Personen in seinem hause beschnitten, sowohl die im Hause geborenen als auch die für Geld von Fremden gekauften Knechte.
