Ezra 7
1 And after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra son of Seraiah, son of Azariah, son of Hilkiah,
Postérieurement à ces événements, sous le règne d’Artahchasta, roi de Perse, florissait Ezra, fils de Seraïa, fils d’Azaria, fils de Hilkia,
2 son of Shallum, son of Zadok, son of Ahitub,
fils de Challoum, fils de Çadok, fils d’Ahitoub,
3 son of Amariah, son of Azariah, son of Meraioth,
fils d’Amaria, fils d’Azaria, fils de Meraïot,
4 son of Zerahiah, son of Uzzi, son of Bukki,
fils de Zerahia, fils d’Ouzzi, fils de Boukki,
5 son of Abishua, son of Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the head priest;
fils d’Abichoua, fils de Phinéas, fils d’Eléazar, fils d’Aaron, le pontife suprême.
6 Ezra himself hath come up from Babylon, and he [is] a scribe ready in the law of Moses, that Jehovah God of Israel gave, and the king giveth to him — according to the hand of Jehovah his God upon him — all his request.
Ce même Ezra monta de Babylone; c’était un scribe, versé dans la loi de Moïse, qu’avait donnée l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël. Comme la protection de Dieu était avec lui, le roi lui accorda toutes ses demandes.
7 And there go up of the sons of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the Nethinim, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.
Et avec lui montèrent à Jérusalem une partie des Israélites, des prêtres, Lévites, chantres, portiers et serviteurs du temple, dans la septième année du roi Artahchasta.
8 And he cometh in to Jerusalem in the fifth month, that [is in] the seventh year of the king,
Il arriva à Jérusalem le cinquième mois; c’était dans la septième année du roi.
9 for on the first of the month he hath founded the ascent from Babylon, and on the first of the fifth month he hath come in unto Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him,
En effet, le premier jour du premier mois commença à s’organiser le départ de Babylone, et le premier du cinquième mois, il arriva à Jérusalem, la protection de Dieu s’étant manifestée en sa faveur.
10 for Ezra hath prepared his heart to seek the law of Jehovah, and to do, and to teach in Israel statute and judgment.
Car Ezra avait disposé son cœur à étudier la doctrine de l’Eternel et à la pratiquer, de même qu’à enseigner dans Israël la loi et le droit.
11 And this [is] a copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, a scribe of the words of the commands of Jehovah, and of His statutes on Israel:
Voici la teneur de l’édit accordé par le roi Artahchasta au prêtre Ezra, le scribe, qui était versé dans les détails des commandements de l’Eternel et des règles imposées à Israël:
12 'Artaxerxes, king of kings, to Ezra the priest, a perfect scribe of the law of the God of heaven, and at such a time:
"Artahchasta, roi des rois, au prêtre Ezra, docteur de la loi du Dieu du ciel, etc., etc.
13 By me hath been made a decree that every one who is willing, in my kingdom, of the people of Israel and of its priests and Levites, to go to Jerusalem with thee, doth go;
Il est décrété par moi que quiconque, dans mon royaume, parmi le peuple d’Israël, parmi les prêtres et les Lévites, veut bien partir avec toi pour Jérusalem, pourra partir;
14 because that from the king and his seven counsellors thou art sent, to inquire concerning Judah and concerning Jerusalem, with the law of God that [is] in thy hand,
car tu es envoyé par le roi et ses sept conseillers pour t’occuper de la Judée et de Jérusalem, sous l’inspiration de la loi de ton Dieu qui est entre tes mains,
15 and to carry silver and gold that the king and his counsellors willingly offered to the God of Israel, whose tabernacle [is] in Jerusalem,
et pour y transporter l’argent et l’or que le roi et ses conseillers ont consacrés au Dieu d’Israël, dont la résidence est à Jérusalem,
16 and all the silver and gold that thou findest in all the province of Babylon, with the free-will offerings of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly, for the house of their God that [is] in Jerusalem,
ainsi que tout l’argent et l’or que tu obtiendras dans toute la province de Babylone, avec les dons volontaires que le peuple et les prêtres offrent pour le temple de leur Dieu à Jérusalem.
17 therefore thou dost speedily buy with this money, bullocks, rams, lambs, and their presents, and their libations, and dost bring them near to the altar of the house of your God that [is] in Jerusalem,
En conséquence, tu auras soin d’acheter avec cet argent des taureaux, des béliers, des agneaux, leurs oblations et leurs libations, et tu les présenteras sur l’autel du temple de votre Dieu à Jérusalem.
18 and that which to thee and to thy brethren is good to do with the rest of the silver and gold, according to the will of your God ye do.'
Et ce qu’il te plaira à toi et à tes frères de faire avec le reste de l’argent, vous le ferez, conformément à la volonté de votre Dieu.
19 'And the vessels that are given to thee, for the service of the house of thy God, make perfect before the God of Jerusalem;
Les ustensiles qui te seront donnés pour le service du temple de ton Dieu, dépose-les exactement devant le Dieu de Jérusalem.
20 and the rest of the needful things of the house of thy God, that it falleth to thee to give, thou dost give from the treasure-house of the king.
Quant aux autres objets nécessaires au temple de ton Dieu, qu’il t’incombera de donner, tu les donneras avec les ressources du trésor royal.
21 'And by me — I Artaxerxes the king — is made a decree to all treasurers who [are] beyond the river, that all that Ezra the priest, scribe of the law of the God of heaven, doth ask of you, be done speedily:
De plus, moi, le roi Artahchasta, je déclare à tous les trésoriers de l’autre côté du fleuve que ma volonté est que tout ce que vous demandera le prêtre Ezra, docteur de la loi du Dieu du ciel, soit exécuté ponctuellement,
22 Unto silver a hundred talents, and unto wheat a hundred cors, and unto wine a hundred baths, and unto oil a hundred baths, and salt without reckoning;
jusqu’à concurrence de cent talents d’argent, cent kôr de froment, cent bath de vin, cent bath d’huile et du sel à discrétion.
23 all that [is] by the decree of the God of heaven, let be done diligently for the house of the God of heaven; for why is there wrath against the kingdom of the king and his sons?
Tout ce qui est ordonné par le Dieu du ciel doit s’accomplir scrupuleusement pour le temple du Dieu du ciel, pour ne pas attirer la colère divine sur l’empire du roi et de ses enfants.
24 'And to you we are making known, that upon any of the priests and Levites, singers, gatekeepers, Nethinim, and servants of the house of God, tribute and custom there is no authority to lift up.
Nous vous faisons savoir, en outre, qu’en ce qui concerne tous les prêtres, Lévites, chantres, portiers, serviteurs et employés de ce temple de Dieu, il n’est pas permis de mettre à leur charge ni droits, ni impôts, ni péage.
25 'And thou, Ezra, according to the wisdom of thy God, that [is] in thy hand, appoint magistrates and judges who may be judges to all the people who are beyond the river, to all knowing the law of thy God, and he who hath not known ye cause to know;
Quant à toi, Ezra, en vertu de la sagesse divine qui est ton partage, institue comme juges et magistrats, pour rendre justice à tout le peuple de l’autre côté du fleuve, tous ceux qui connaissent les lois de Dieu. Ceux qui les ignorent, vous les en instruirez.
26 and any who doth not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, speedily is judgment done upon him, whether to death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of riches, and to bonds.'
Et quiconque n’exécutera pas la loi de ton Dieu et la loi du roi, il conviendra d’en faire prompte justice, soit par la peine capitale, soit par le bannissement, soit par des amendes pécuniaires et la prison."
27 Blessed [is] Jehovah, God of our fathers, who hath given such a thing as this in the heart of the king, to beautify the house of Jehovah that [is] in Jerusalem,
Béni soit le Dieu de nos pères, qui a mis ainsi au cœur du roi le désir de glorifier le temple de l’Eternel à Jérusalem,
28 and unto me hath stretched out kindness before the king and his counsellors, and before all the mighty heads of the king: and I have strengthened myself as the hand of Jehovah my God [is] upon me, and I gather out of Israel heads to go up with me.
et qui m’a attiré, à moi, les bonnes grâces du roi, de ses conseillers et de tous les puissants seigneurs du roi! C’Est ainsi que je fus encouragé, me sentant sous la protection de l’Eternel, mon Dieu, et j’assemblai des chefs de famille en Israël, pour qu’ils partissent avec moi.
