Ezekiel 17
1 And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,
Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée, disant:
2 'Son of man, put forth a riddle, and use a simile unto the house of Israel,
Fils d’un homme, propose une énigme, et raconte une parabole à la maison d’Israël,
3 and thou hast said: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: The great eagle, great-winged, long-pinioned, Full of feathers, that hath diverse colours, Hath come in unto Lebanon, And it taketh the foliage of the cedar,
Et tu diras: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu: L’aigle énorme, aux grandes ailes, aux longs membres, plein de plumes variées, vint sur le Liban, et prit la moelle du cèdre.
4 The top of its tender twigs it hath cropped, And it bringeth it in to the land of Canaan. In a city of merchants it hath placed it.
Il arracha les sommités de ses branches, et les transporta dans la terre de Chanaan; il les mit dans une ville de marchands.
5 And it taketh of the seed of the land, And doth put it in a field of seed, To take by many waters, In a conspicuous place it hath set it.
Et il prit de la graine du pays et il la mit en terre comme une semence, afin qu’elle prît racine sur de grandes eaux; il la mit sur la surface de la terre.
6 And it springeth up, and becometh a spreading vine, humble of stature, To turn its thin shoots toward itself, And its roots are under it, And it becometh a vine, and maketh boughs, And sendeth forth beauteous branches.
Et lorsqu’elle eut germé, elle crût et devint une vigne étendue, mais basse; ses branches regardant l’aigle; et ses racines étaient sous lui, elle devint donc une vigne, elle poussa du sarment et produisit des rejetons.
7 And there is another great eagle, Great-winged, and abounding with feathers, And lo, this vine hath bent its roots toward him, And its thin shoots it hath sent out toward him, To water it from the furrows of its planting,
Et il y eut un autre aigle énorme, aux grandes ailes et aux nombreuses plumes; et voilà que cette vigne sembla porter ses racines et étendre ses sarments vers l’aigle, afin qu’il l’arrosât des eaux des planches où elle a poussé.
8 On a good field, by many waters, it is planted, To make branches, and to bear fruit, To be for an goodly vine.
C’est dans une bonne terre, sur le bord des grandes eaux, qu’elle a été plantée, afin qu’elle donnât des feuilles, qu’elle portât du fruit, et qu’elle devînt une grande vigne.
9 Say: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: It prospereth — its roots doth he not draw out, And its fruit cut off, and it is withered? [In] all the leaves of its springing it withereth, And not by great strength, and by a numerous people, To lift it up by its roots.
Dis: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu: Est-ce donc qu’elle prospérera? est-ce que l’aigle n’arrachera pas ses racines, et, n’abattra pas ses fruits; et ne séchera-t-il pas ses rejetons, et ne durcira-t-elle pas, sans qu’il faille un bras fort et un peuple nombreux pour l’arracher jusque dans la racine?
10 And lo, the planted thing — doth it prosper? When come against it doth the east wind, Doth it not utterly wither? On the furrows of its springing it withereth.'
Voilà qu’elle est plantée, est-ce donc qu’elle prospérera? est-ce que, lorsqu’un vent brûlant l’aura touchée, elle ne se desséchera pas, et que dans les planches où elle a poussé elle ne durcira pas?
11 And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying:
Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée, disant:
12 'Say, I pray thee, to the rebellious house, Have ye not known what these [are]? Say, Lo, come hath the king of Babylon to Jerusalem, And he taketh its king, and its princes, And bringeth them to himself to Babylon.
Dis à la maison qui m’exaspère: Ne savez-vous point ce que ces choses signifient? Dis: Voici que le roi de Babylone vient à Jérusalem, et il prendra le roi et ses princes, et il les emmènera avec lui à Babylone.
13 And he taketh of the seed of the kingdom, And maketh with him a covenant, And bringeth him in to an oath, And the mighty of the land he hath taken,
Et il prendra un prince de la race royale, et il fera avec lui alliance, et il recevra son serment; mais les puissants du pays, il les enlèvera;
14 That the kingdom may be humble, That it may not lift itself up, To keep his covenant — that it may stand.
Afin que ce soit un royaume humble, qui ne se relève pas, mais qui garde son traité d’alliance et l’observe.
15 And he rebelleth against him, To send his messengers to Egypt, To give to him horses, and much people, Doth he prosper? doth he escape who is doing these things? And hath he broken covenant and escaped?
Mais ce prince, s’étant détaché de lui, envoya des ambassadeurs en Egypte pour qu’elle lui donnât des chevaux et des troupes nombreuses. Est-ce qu’il prospérera ou qu’il obtiendra son salut, celui qui a fait ces choses? et celui qui a rompu un traité, échappera-t-il?
16 I live — an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, Doth he not — in the place of the king who is causing him to reign, Whose oath he hath despised, And whose covenant he hath broken, With him — in the midst of Babylon — die?
Je vis, moi, dit le Seigneur Dieu; au séjour du roi qui l’a établi roi, dont il a rendu vain le serment et rompu le traité qu’il avait conclu avec lui, au milieu de Babylone il mourra.
17 And not with a great force, and with a numerous assembly, Doth Pharaoh maintain him in battle, By pouring out a mount, and in building a fortification, To cut off many souls.
Et ce n’est pas avec une grande armée ni avec un peuple nombreux que Pharaon fera contre lui la guerre; ni par la fondation d’un rempart et par la construction de forts pour détruire un grand nombre d’âmes.
18 And he despised the oath — to break covenant, And lo, he hath given his hand, And all these he hath done, he escapeth not.
Car il avait méprisé le serment, afin de rompre l’alliance, et voici qu’il a donné sa main à l’Egypte, et quoiqu’il ait fait toutes ces choses, il n’échappera pas.
19 Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: I live — Mine oath that he hath despised, And My covenant that he hath broken, Have I not put it on his head?
À cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu: Je vis, moi; le serment qu’il a méprisé, et l’alliance qu’il a enfreinte, je les mettrai sur sa tête.
20 And I have spread out for him My snare, And he hath been caught in My net, And I have brought him in to Babylon, And pleaded with him there his trespass, That he hath trespassed against Me.
Et j’étendrai sur lui mon rets, et il sera pris dans ma seine; et je l’emmènerai à Babylone et je le jugerai là à cause de la prévarication par laquelle il m’a méprisé.
21 And all his fugitives, with all his bands, By sword do fall, and those remaining, To every wind they are spread out, And ye have known that I, Jehovah, have spoken.
Et tous les fugitifs qui l’ont suivi et toutes ses troupes tomberont sous le glaive; et le reste sera dispersé à tout vent; et vous saurez que c’est moi, le Seigneur, qui ai parlé.
22 Thus said the Lord Jehovah: I have taken of the foliage of the high cedar, And I have set [it], From the top of its tender shoots a tender one I crop, And I — I have planted [it] on a mountain high and lofty.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu: Et moi, je prendrai de la moelle du cèdre élevé et je la placerai; au sommet de ses rameaux, je cueillerai une branche tendre, et je la planterai sur une montagne haute et élevée.
23 In a mountain — the high place of Israel, I plant it, And it hath borne boughs, and yielded fruit, And become a goodly cedar, And dwelt under it have all birds of every wing, In the shade of its thin shoots they dwell.
C’est sur la haute montagne d’Israël que je la planterai; elle poussera un rejeton, et produira du fruit, et deviendra un grand cèdre; et sous ce cèdre habiteront tous les oiseaux, et tout ce qui vole à l’ombre de ses feuilles fera son nid.
24 And known have all trees of the field That I, Jehovah, have made low the high tree, I have set on high the low tree, I have dried up the moist tree, And I have caused the dry tree to flourish, I, Jehovah, have spoken, and have done [it]!'
Et tous les arbres de la contrée sauront que c’est moi le Seigneur qui ai humilié un arbre élevé, et élevé un arbre humble; et qui ai séché un arbre vert et fait reverdir un arbre aride. C’est moi, le Seigneur, j’ai parlé et exécuté.
