Exodus 3

1 And Moses hath been feeding the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, priest of Midian, and he leadeth the flock behind the wilderness, and cometh in unto the mount of God, to Horeb;

Moïse gardait le troupeau de Jéthro, son beau-père, prêtre de Madian. Il conduisit le troupeau au fond du désert et arriva à la montagne de Dieu, à Horeb.

2 and there appeareth unto him a messenger of Jehovah in a flame of fire, out of the midst of the bush, and he seeth, and lo, the bush is burning with fire, and the bush is not consumed.

L'ange de Yahvé lui apparut dans une flamme de feu, au milieu d'un buisson. Il regarda, et voici, le buisson brûlait de feu, et le buisson ne se consumait pas.

3 And Moses saith, 'Let me turn aside, I pray thee, and I see this great appearance; wherefore is the bush not burned?'

Moïse dit: « Je vais maintenant aller voir ce grand spectacle, pourquoi le buisson ne se consume pas. »

4 and Jehovah seeth that he hath turned aside to see, and God calleth unto him out of the midst of the bush, and saith, 'Moses, Moses;' and he saith, 'Here [am] I.'

Lorsque Yahvé vit qu'il venait pour voir, Dieu l'appela du milieu du buisson et dit: « Moïse! Moïse! » Il a dit: « Je suis là. »

5 And He saith, 'Come not near hither: cast thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place on which thou art standing is holy ground.'

Il dit: « N'approchez pas. Enlève tes sandales, car le lieu sur lequel tu te tiens est une terre sainte. »

6 He saith also, 'I [am] the God of thy father, God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob;' and Moses hideth his face, for he is afraid to look towards God.

Il dit encore: « Je suis le Dieu de ton père, le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob. » Moïse a caché son visage parce qu'il avait peur de regarder Dieu.

7 And Jehovah saith, 'I have certainly seen the affliction of My people who [are] in Egypt, and their cry I have heard, because of its exactors, for I have known its pains;

Yahvé dit: « J'ai vu la détresse de mon peuple qui est en Égypte, j'ai entendu ses cris à cause de ses maîtres, car je connais ses souffrances.

8 and I go down to deliver it out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to cause it to go up out of the land, unto a land good and broad, unto a land flowing with milk and honey — unto the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

Je suis descendu pour les délivrer de la main des Égyptiens et pour les faire monter de ce pays dans un bon et vaste pays, dans un pays où coulent le lait et le miel, dans le lieu où vivent les Cananéens, les Héthiens, les Amoréens, les Phéréziens, les Héviens et les Jébusiens.

9 'And now, lo, the cry of the sons of Israel hath come in unto Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them,

Maintenant, voici, le cri des enfants d'Israël est venu jusqu'à moi. Et j'ai vu l'oppression que leur font subir les Égyptiens.

10 and now, come, and I send thee unto Pharaoh, and bring thou out My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.'

Viens donc maintenant, et je t'enverrai vers Pharaon, afin que tu fasses sortir d'Égypte mon peuple, les enfants d'Israël. »

11 And Moses saith unto God, 'Who [am] I, that I go unto Pharaoh, and that I bring out the sons of Israel from Egypt?'

Moïse dit à Dieu: « Qui suis-je, pour aller vers Pharaon, et pour faire sortir d'Égypte les enfants d'Israël? »

12 and He saith, 'Because I am with thee, and this [is] to thee the sign that I have sent thee: in thy bringing out the people from Egypt — ye do serve God on this mount.'

Il dit: « Certainement, je serai avec toi. Ceci sera pour toi le signe que je t'ai envoyé: quand tu auras fait sortir le peuple d'Égypte, tu serviras Dieu sur cette montagne. »

13 And Moses saith unto God, 'Lo, I am coming unto the sons of Israel, and have said to them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you, and they have said to me, What [is] His name? what do I say unto them?'

Moïse dit à Dieu: « Voici, quand je viendrai vers les enfants d'Israël et que je leur dirai: « Le Dieu de vos pères m'a envoyé vers vous », et qu'ils me demanderont: « Quel est son nom? », que leur dirai-je? »

14 And God saith unto Moses, 'I AM THAT WHICH I AM;' He saith also, 'Thus dost thou say to the sons of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.'

Dieu dit à Moïse: « JE SUIS QUI JE SUIS », et il ajouta: « Tu diras ceci aux enfants d'Israël: « Je Suis, je vous ai envoyé. »

15 And God saith again unto Moses, 'Thus dost thou say unto the sons of Israel, Jehovah, God of your fathers, God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you; this [is] My name — to the age, and this My memorial, to generation — generation.

Dieu dit encore à Moïse: « Tu diras aux enfants d'Israël: « Yahvé, le Dieu de vos pères, le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob, m'a envoyé vers vous. C'est là mon nom pour toujours, et c'est là mon souvenir pour toutes les générations.

16 'Go, and thou hast gathered the elders of Israel, and hast said unto them: Jehovah, God of your fathers, hath appeareth unto me, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, I have certainly inspected you, and that which is done to you in Egypt;

Allez rassembler les anciens d'Israël et dites-leur: « Yahvé, le Dieu de vos pères, le Dieu d'Abraham, d'Isaac et de Jacob, m'est apparu et m'a dit: Je vous ai visités et j'ai vu ce qu'on vous a fait en Égypte.

17 and I say, I bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt, unto the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, unto a land flowing [with] milk and honey.

J'ai dit: Je vous ferai monter de la détresse de l'Égypte au pays des Cananéens, des Héthiens, des Amoréens, des Phéréziens, des Héviens et des Jébusiens, dans un pays où coulent le lait et le miel ».

18 'And they have hearkened to thy voice, and thou hast entered, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye have said unto him, Jehovah, God of the Hebrews, hath met with us; and now, let us go, we pray thee, a journey of three days into the wilderness, and we sacrifice to Jehovah our God.

Ils écouteront ta voix. Tu iras, toi et les anciens d'Israël, vers le roi d'Égypte et tu lui diras: « Yahvé, le Dieu des Hébreux, nous a rencontrés. Laisse-nous maintenant faire trois jours de marche dans le désert, afin que nous puissions sacrifier à Yahvé, notre Dieu.

19 'And I — I have known that the king of Egypt doth not permit you to go, unless by a strong hand,

Je sais que le roi d'Égypte ne vous donnera pas la permission de partir, non, pas par une main puissante.

20 and I have put forth My hand, and have smitten Egypt with all My wonders, which I do in its midst — and afterwards he doth send you away.

J'étendrai ma main et je frapperai l'Égypte par tous les prodiges que je ferai au milieu d'elle, et après cela, il vous laissera partir.

21 'And I have given the grace of this people in the eyes of the Egyptians, and it hath come to pass, when ye go, ye go not empty;

J'accorderai à ce peuple une faveur aux yeux des Égyptiens, et il arrivera que, lorsque vous partirez, vous ne partirez pas les mains vides.

22 and [every] woman hath asked from her neighbour, and from her who is sojourning in her house, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and ye have put [them] on your sons and on your daughters, and have spoiled the Egyptians.'

Mais chaque femme demandera à sa voisine et à celle qui visite sa maison des bijoux d'argent, des bijoux d'or et des vêtements. Vous les mettrez sur vos fils et sur vos filles. Vous pillerez les Égyptiens. »
