Exodus 20
1 'And God speaketh all these words, saying,
Alors Dieu prononça toutes ces paroles, savoir:
2 I [am] Jehovah thy God, who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants.
"Je suis l’Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t’ai fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, d’une maison d’esclavage.
3 'Thou hast no other Gods before Me.
"Tu n’auras point d’autre dieu que moi.
4 'Thou dost not make to thyself a graven image, or any likeness which [is] in the heavens above, or which [is] in the earth beneath, or which [is] in the waters under the earth.
Tu ne te feras point d’idole, ni une image quelconque de ce qui est en haut dans le ciel, ou en bas sur la terre, ou dans les eaux au-dessous de la terre.
5 Thou dost not bow thyself to them, nor serve them: for I, Jehovah thy God, [am] a zealous God, charging iniquity of fathers on sons, on the third [generation], and on the fourth, of those hating Me,
Tu ne te prosterneras point devant elles, tu ne les adoreras point; car moi, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, je suis un Dieu jaloux, qui poursuis le crime des pères sur les enfants jusqu’à la troisième et à la quatrième générations, pour ceux qui m’offensent;
6 and doing kindness to thousands, of those loving Me and keeping My commands.
et qui étends ma bienveillance à la millième, pour ceux qui m’aiment et gardent mes commandements.
7 'Thou dost not take up the name of Jehovah thy God for a vain thing, for Jehovah acquitteth not him who taketh up His name for a vain thing.
"Tu n’invoqueras point le nom de l’Éternel ton Dieu à l’appui du mensonge; car l’Éternel ne laisse pas impuni celui qui invoque son nom pour le mensonge.
8 'Remember the Sabbath-day to sanctify it;
"Pense au jour du Sabbat pour le sanctifier.
9 six days thou dost labour, and hast done all thy work,
Durant six jours tu travailleras et t’occuperas de toutes tes affaires,
10 and the seventh day [is] a Sabbath to Jehovah thy God; thou dost not do any work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, thy man-servant, and thy handmaid, and thy cattle, and thy sojourner who is within thy gates, —
mais le septième jour est la trêve de l’Éternel ton Dieu: tu n’y feras aucun travail, toi, ton fils ni ta fille, ton esclave mâle ou femelle, ton bétail, ni l’étranger qui est dans tes murs.
11 for six days hath Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that [is] in them, and resteth in the seventh day; therefore hath Jehovah blessed the Sabbath-day, and doth sanctify it.
Car en six jours l’Éternel a fait le ciel, la terre, la mer et tout ce qu’ils renferment et il s’est reposé le septième jour; c’est pourquoi l’Éternel a béni le jour du Sabbat et l’a sanctifié.
12 'Honour thy father and thy mother, so that thy days are prolonged on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee.
"Honore ton père et ta mère, afin que tes jours se prolongent sur la terre que l’Éternel ton Dieu t’accordera.
13 'Thou dost not murder.
"Ne commets point d’homicide.
14 'Thou dost not commit adultery.
"Ne commets point d’adultère.
15 'Thou dost not steal.
"Ne commets point de larcin.
16 'Thou dost not answer against thy neighbour a false testimony.
"Ne rends point contre ton prochain un faux témoignage.
17 'Thou dost not desire the house of thy neighbour, thou dost not desire the wife of thy neighbour, or his man-servant, or his handmaid, or his ox, or his ass, or anything which [is] thy neighbour's.'
"Ne convoite pas la maison de ton prochain; Ne convoite pas la femme de ton prochain, son esclave ni sa servante, son bœuf ni son âne, ni rien de ce qui est à ton prochain."
18 And all the people are seeing the voices, and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mount smoking; and the people see, and move, and stand afar off,
Or, tout le peuple fut témoin de ces tonnerres, de ces feux, de ce bruit de cor, de cette montagne fumante et le peuple à cette vue, trembla et se tint à distance.
19 and say unto Moses, 'Speak thou with us, and we hear, and let not God speak with us, lest we die.'
Et ils dirent à Moïse: "Que ce soit toi qui nous parles et nous pourrons entendre mais que Dieu ne nous parle point, nous pourrions mourir."
20 And Moses saith unto the people, 'Fear not, for to try you hath God come, and in order that His fear may be before your faces — that ye sin not.'
Moïse répondit au peuple: "Soyez sans crainte! c’est pour vous mettre à l’épreuve que le Seigneur est intervenu; c’est pour que sa crainte vous soit toujours présente, afin que vous ne péchiez point."
21 And the people stand afar off, and Moses hath drawn nigh unto the thick darkness where God [is].
Le peuple resta éloigné, tandis que Moïse s’approcha de la brume où était le Seigneur.
22 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, 'Thus dost thou say unto the sons of Israel: Ye — ye have seen that from the heavens I have spoken with you;
L’Éternel dit à Moïse: "Parle ainsi aux enfants d’Israël: 'Vous avez vu, vous-mêmes, que du haut des cieux je vous ai parlé.
23 ye do not make with Me gods of silver, even gods of gold ye do not make to yourselves.
Ne m’associez aucune divinité; dieux d’argent, dieux d’or, n’en faites point pour votre usage.'
24 'An altar of earth thou dost make for Me, and thou hast sacrificed on it thy burnt-offerings and thy peace-offerings, thy flock and thy herd; in every place where I cause My name to be remembered I come in unto thee, and have blessed thee.
Tu feras pour moi un autel de terre, sur lequel tu sacrifieras tes holocaustes et tes victimes rémunératoires, ton menu et ton gros bétail, en quelque lieu que je fasse invoquer mon nom, je viendrai à toi pour te bénir.
25 'And if an altar of stones thou dost make to Me, thou dost not build them of hewn work; when thy tool thou hast waved over it, then thou dost pollute it;
Si toutefois tu m’ériges un autel de pierres, ne le construis pas en pierres de taille; car, en les touchant avec le fer, tu les as rendues profanes.
26 neither dost thou go up by steps on Mine altar, that thy nakedness be not revealed upon it.
Tu ne dois pas non plus monter sur mon autel à l’aide de degrés, afin que ta nudité ne s’y découvre point.
