Ecclesiastes 2
1 I said in my heart, 'Pray, come, I try thee with mirth, and look thou on gladness;' and lo, even it [is] vanity.
Disse eu em meu coração: Vamos! Eu te provarei com alegria, por isso dá atenção ao que é bom! Porém eis que isto também era futilidade.
2 Of laughter I said, 'Foolish!' and of mirth, 'What [is] this it is doing?'
Eu disse ao riso: Estás doido; e à alegria: De que esta serve?
3 I have sought in my heart to draw out with wine my appetite, (and my heart leading in wisdom), and to take hold on folly till that I see where [is] this — the good to the sons of man of that which they do under the heavens, the number of the days of their lives.
Decidi como experiência entregar minha carne ao vinho (guiando porém meu coração com sabedoria) e praticar a loucura, para eu ver o que era melhor aos filhos dos homens fazerem abaixo do céu durante os dias de suas vidas.
4 I made great my works, I builded for me houses, I planted for me vineyards.
Fiz para mim obras grandiosas; construí casas para mim; plantei vinhas para mim.
5 I made for me gardens and paradises, and I planted in them trees of every fruit.
Fiz para mim pomares e jardins; e plantei neles árvores de toda [espécie de] frutos.
6 I made for me pools of water, to water from them a forest shooting forth trees.
Fiz para mim tanques de águas, para regar com eles o bosque em que se plantavam as árvores.
7 I got men-servants, and maid-servants, and sons of the house were to me; also, I had much substance — herd and flock — above all who had been before me in Jerusalem.
Adquiri escravos e escravas, e tive [escravos] nascidos em casa; também tive grande rebanho de vacas e ovelhas, mais do que todos os que houve antes de mim em Jerusalém.
8 I gathered for me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces. I prepared for me men-singers and women-singers, and the luxuries of the sons of man — a wife and wives.
Também juntei para mim prata, ouro, e tesouros de reis e de províncias; reservei para mim cantores e cantoras, e dos prazeres dos filhos dos homens: várias mulheres.
9 And I became great, and increased above every one who had been before me in Jerusalem; also, my wisdom stood with me.
Então me engrandeci e aumentei, mais do que todos quantos houve antes de mim em Jerusalém; além disto minha sabedoria ficou comigo.
10 And all that mine eyes asked I kept not back from them; I withheld not my heart from any joy, for my heart rejoiced because of all my labour, and this hath been my portion, from all my labour,
E tudo quanto meus olhos desejaram, eu não lhes neguei; nem privei meu coração de alegria alguma, pois meu coração se alegrou de todo o meu trabalho; e esta foi minha parte [que obtive] de todo o meu trabalho.
11 and I have looked on all my works that my hands have done, and on the labour that I have laboured to do, and lo, the whole [is] vanity and vexation of spirit, and there is no advantage under the sun!
E eu olhei para todas as obras que minhas mãos fizeram, como também para o trabalho ao qual me dispus a trabalhar; e eis que tudo era fútil [como] perseguir o vento, e que não havia proveito algum abaixo do sol.
12 And I turned to see wisdom, and madness, and folly, but what [is] the man who cometh after the king? that which [is] already — they have done it!
Então passei a observar a sabedoria, as loucuras e a tolice; porque o que o homem pode fazer depois do rei, que já não tenha sido feito?
13 And I saw that there is an advantage to wisdom above folly, like the advantage of the light above the darkness.
Então eu vi que a sabedoria é melhor do que a tolice, assim como a luz é melhor do que as trevas.
14 The wise! — his eyes [are] in his head, and the fool in darkness is walking, and I also knew that one event happeneth with them all;
Os olhos do sábio estão em sua cabeça, mas o tolo anda em trevas; então eu também entendi que o mesmo futuro acontece a todos eles.
15 and I said in my heart, 'As it happeneth with the fool, it happeneth also with me, and why am I then more wise?' And I spake in my heart, that also this [is] vanity:
Por isso eu disse em meu coração: Assim como acontece ao tolo, também acontecerá a mim; por que então eu me tornei mais sábio? Então disse em meu coração que isto também era inútil.
16 That there is no remembrance to the wise — with the fool — to the age, for that which [is] already, [in] the days that are coming is all forgotten, and how dieth the wise? with the fool!
Porque não haverá lembrança para sempre, nem do sábio, nem do tolo; porque de tudo quanto agora há, nos dias futuros será esquecido; e o sábio morre assim como o tolo.
17 And I have hated life, for sad to me [is] the work that hath been done under the sun, for the whole [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.
Por isso detestei a vida, porque a obra que é feita abaixo do sol me faz sofrer; pois tudo é fútil [como] perseguir o vento.
18 And I have hated all my labour that I labour at under the sun, because I leave it to a man who is after me.
Eu também detestei todo o meu trabalho em que trabalhei abaixo do sol, porque o deixarei ao homem que virá depois de mim.
19 And who knoweth whether he is wise or foolish? yet he doth rule over all my labour that I have laboured at, and that I have done wisely under the sun! this also [is] vanity.
Pois quem sabe se ele será sábio ou tolo? Contudo ele terá controle de todo o meu trabalho em que trabalhei, e que sabiamente conduzi abaixo do sol; também isso é futilidade.
20 And I turned round to cause my heart to despair concerning all the labour that I laboured at under the sun.
Por isso eu fiz meu coração perder a esperança de todo o meu trabalho em que trabalhei abaixo do sol.
21 For there is a man whose labour [is] in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity, and to a man who hath not laboured therein he giveth it — his portion! Even this [is] vanity and a great evil.
Porque há [um tipo de] homem que trabalha com sabedoria, conhecimento e habilidade; porém deixará tudo como herança a um [outro] homem que não trabalhou naquilo; também isto é fútil e muito desagradável.
22 For what hath been to a man by all his labour, and by the thought of his heart that he laboured at under the sun?
Pois que [proveito] o homem tem por todo o seu trabalho e cansaço de seu coração em que ele trabalha abaixo do sol?
23 For all his days are sorrows, and his travail sadness; even at night his heart hath not lain down; this also [is] vanity.
Porque todos os seus dias são dores, e aflição [é] sua rotina; até de noite seu coração não descansa; também isto é futilidade.
24 There is nothing good in a man who eateth, and hath drunk, and hath shewn his soul good in his labour. This also I have seen that it [is] from the hand of God.
Não há nada melhor ao homem do que comer, beber, e fazer sua alma se alegrar de seu trabalho; eu também vi que isto vem da mão de Deus.
25 For who eateth and who hasteth out more than I?
(Pois quem [melhor] comeria ou teria pressa, a não ser eu mesmo?)
26 For to a man who [is] good before Him, He hath given wisdom, and knowledge, and joy; and to a sinner He hath given travail, to gather and to heap up, to give to the good before God. Even this [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.
Porque ao homem bom perante sua face, [Deus] dá sabedoria, conhecimento e alegria; porém ao pecador ele dá trabalho cansativo, para juntar e recolher, para o dar ao bom diante da sua face; também isto é fútil [como] perseguir o vento.
