Deuteronomy 6

1 'And this [is] the command, the statutes and the judgments which Jehovah your God hath commanded to teach you, to do in the land which ye are passing over thither to possess it,

»Dies ist nun das Gesetz, die Satzungen und die Verordnungen, die ich euch nach dem Befehl des HERRN, eures Gottes, lehren soll, damit ihr nach ihnen lebt in dem Lande, zu dessen Eroberung ihr jetzt hinüberzieht,

2 so that thou dost fear Jehovah thy God, to keep all His statutes and His commands, which I am commanding thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all days of thy life, and so that thy days are prolonged.

auf daß ihr, du und deine Kinder und Kindeskinder, den HERRN, euren Gott, euer ganzes Leben lang fürchtet und alle seine Satzungen und Gebote beobachtet, die ich dir zur Pflicht mache, und auf daß deine Tage lange Dauer haben.

3 'And thou hast heard, O Israel, and observed to do, that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest multiply exceedingly, as Jehovah, God of thy fathers, hath spoken to thee, [in] the land flowing with milk and honey.

So höre sie denn, Israel, und achte darauf, sie zu befolgen, damit es dir wohlgeht und ihr sehr zahlreich werdet, wie der HERR, der Gott deiner Väter, es dir zugesagt hat – in einem von Milch und Honig überfließenden Lande.

4 'Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God [is] one Jehovah;

Höre, Israel: Der HERR ist unser Gott, der HERR allein!

5 and thou hast loved Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might,

So liebe denn den HERRN, deinen Gott, mit deinem ganzen Herzen, mit deiner ganzen Seele und mit all deiner Kraft!

6 and these words which I am commanding thee to-day have been on thine heart,

So mögen denn diese Worte, die ich dir heute gebiete, dir am Herzen liegen,

7 and thou hast repeated them to thy sons, and spoken of them in thy sitting in thine house, and in thy walking in the way, and in thy lying down, and in thy rising up,

und du sollst sie deinen Kindern einschärfen und von ihnen reden, wenn du in deinem Hause sitzt und wenn du auf der Wanderung begriffen bist, wenn du dich niederlegst und wenn du aufstehst.

8 and hast bound them for a sign upon thy hand, and they have been for frontlets between thine eyes,

Du sollst sie dir als ein Gedenkzeichen an die Hand binden und sie als Binde zwischen deinen Augen tragen

9 and thou hast written them on door-posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

und sollst sie auf die Pfosten deines Hauses und an deine Tore schreiben.«

10 'And it hath been, when Jehovah thy God doth bring thee in unto the land which He hath sworn to thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to thee — cities great and good, which thou hast not built,

»Auch wenn der HERR, dein Gott, dich in das Land bringen wird, das er dir, wie er deinen Vätern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob zugeschworen hat, zu eigen geben will, große und schöne Städte, die du nicht gebaut hast,

11 and houses full of all good things which thou hast not filled, and wells digged which thou hast not digged, vineyards and olive-yards which thou hast not planted, and thou hast eaten, and been satisfied;

und Häuser, angefüllt mit Gütern jeder Art, die du nicht angefüllt hast, in Fels gehauene Brunnen, die du nicht ausgehauen hast, Weinberge und Olivengärten, die du nicht angelegt hast, und du dich dann satt daran ißt:

12 'Take heed to thyself lest thou forget Jehovah who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants;

so hüte dich wohl, den HERRN zu vergessen, der dich aus dem Lande Ägypten, aus dem Hause der Knechtschaft, ausgeführt hat!

13 Jehovah thy God thou dost fear, and Him thou dost serve, and by His name thou dost swear;

Den HERRN, deinen Gott, sollst du fürchten und ihm dienen und bei seinem Namen schwören.

14 ye do not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who [are] round about you;

Ihr dürft keinem andern Gott von den Göttern der Völker, die rings um euch her wohnen, anhangen;

15 for a zealous God [is] Jehovah thy God in thy midst — lest the anger of Jehovah thy God burn against thee, and He hath destroyed thee from off the face of the ground.

denn der HERR, dein Gott, ist ein eifriger Gott in deiner Mitte; es möchte sonst der Zorn des HERRN, deines Gottes, gegen dich entbrennen und er dich vom Erdboden vertilgen.«

16 'Ye do not try Jehovah your God as ye tried in Massah;

»Ihr sollt den HERRN, euren Gott, nicht versuchen, wie ihr ihn in Massa versucht habt;

17 ye do diligently keep the commands of Jehovah your God, and His testimonies, and His statutes which He hath commanded thee,

ihr sollt vielmehr die Gebote des HERRN, eures Gottes, getreulich beobachten sowie seine Zeugnisse und seine Verordnungen, die er dir zur Pflicht gemacht hat;

18 and thou hast done that which is right and good in the eyes of Jehovah, so that it is well with thee, and thou hast gone in and possessed the good land which Jehovah hath sworn to thy fathers,

und du sollst das tun, was in den Augen des HERRN recht und gut ist, damit es dir wohlergeht und du in das schöne Land, das der HERR deinen Vätern zugeschworen hat, einziehst und es in Besitz nimmst,

19 to drive away all thine enemies from thy presence, as Jehovah hath spoken.

indem du alle deine Feinde vor dir her vertreibst, wie der HERR es verheißen hat.«

20 'When thy son asketh thee hereafter, saying, What [are] the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Jehovah our God hath commanded you?

»Wenn dann dein Sohn dich künftig fragt: ›Was hat es denn mit den Zeugnissen, den Satzungen und den Verordnungen auf sich, die der HERR, unser Gott, euch geboten hat?‹,

21 then thou hast said to thy son, Servants we have been to Pharaoh in Egypt, and Jehovah bringeth us out of Egypt by a high hand;

so sollst du deinem Sohne antworten: ›Wir waren Knechte des Pharaos in Ägypten; aber der HERR hat uns mit starker Hand aus Ägypten hinausgeführt,

22 and Jehovah giveth signs and wonders, great and sad, on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his house, before our eyes;

und der HERR hat vor unsern Augen große und furchtbare Zeichen und Wunder in Ägypten am Pharao und seinem ganzen Hause getan;

23 and us He hath brought out thence, in order to bring us in, to give to us the land which He had sworn to our fathers.

uns aber hat er von dort weggeführt, um uns hierher zu bringen, damit er uns das Land gäbe, das er unsern Vätern zugeschworen hatte.

24 And Jehovah commandeth us to do all these statutes, to fear Jehovah our God, for good to ourselves all the days, to keep us alive, as [at] this day;

Daher hat der HERR uns geboten, alle diese Satzungen zu beobachten, indem wir den HERRN, unsern Gott, fürchteten, damit es uns allezeit wohlergehe und er uns am Leben erhalte, wie es noch an diesem Tage der Fall ist.

25 and righteousness it is for us, when we observe to do all this command before Jehovah our God, as He hath commanded us.

So werden wir denn als gerecht dastehen, wenn wir es uns angelegen sein lassen, dieses ganze Gesetz vor dem HERRN, unserm Gott, zu erfüllen, wie er uns geboten hat.‹«
