Deuteronomy 6
1 'And this [is] the command, the statutes and the judgments which Jehovah your God hath commanded to teach you, to do in the land which ye are passing over thither to possess it,
Voici les commandements, les lois et les ordonnances que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, a commandé de vous enseigner, afin que vous les mettiez en pratique dans le pays dont vous allez prendre possession;
2 so that thou dost fear Jehovah thy God, to keep all His statutes and His commands, which I am commanding thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all days of thy life, and so that thy days are prolonged.
afin que tu craignes l’Éternel, ton Dieu, en observant, tous les jours de ta vie, toi, ton fils, et le fils de ton fils, toutes ses lois et tous ses commandements que je te prescris, et afin que tes jours soient prolongés.
3 'And thou hast heard, O Israel, and observed to do, that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest multiply exceedingly, as Jehovah, God of thy fathers, hath spoken to thee, [in] the land flowing with milk and honey.
Tu les écouteras donc, Israël, et tu auras soin de les mettre en pratique, afin que tu sois heureux et que vous multipliiez beaucoup, comme te l’a dit l’Éternel, le Dieu de tes pères, en te promettant un pays où coulent le lait et le miel.
4 'Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God [is] one Jehovah;
Écoute, Israël! L’Éternel, notre Dieu, est le seul Éternel.
5 and thou hast loved Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might,
Tu aimeras l’Éternel, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de toute ta force.
6 and these words which I am commanding thee to-day have been on thine heart,
Et ces commandements, que je te donne aujourd’hui, seront dans ton cœur.
7 and thou hast repeated them to thy sons, and spoken of them in thy sitting in thine house, and in thy walking in the way, and in thy lying down, and in thy rising up,
Tu les inculqueras à tes enfants, et tu en parleras quand tu seras dans ta maison, quand tu iras en voyage, quand tu te coucheras et quand tu te lèveras.
8 and hast bound them for a sign upon thy hand, and they have been for frontlets between thine eyes,
Tu les lieras comme un signe sur tes mains, et ils seront comme des fronteaux entre tes yeux.
9 and thou hast written them on door-posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
Tu les écriras sur les poteaux de ta maison et sur tes portes.
10 'And it hath been, when Jehovah thy God doth bring thee in unto the land which He hath sworn to thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to thee — cities great and good, which thou hast not built,
L’Éternel, ton Dieu, te fera entrer dans le pays qu’il a juré à tes pères, à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob, de te donner. Tu posséderas de grandes et bonnes villes que tu n’as point bâties,
11 and houses full of all good things which thou hast not filled, and wells digged which thou hast not digged, vineyards and olive-yards which thou hast not planted, and thou hast eaten, and been satisfied;
des maisons qui sont pleines de toutes sortes de biens et que tu n’as point remplies, des citernes creusées que tu n’as point creusées, des vignes et des oliviers que tu n’as point plantés.
12 'Take heed to thyself lest thou forget Jehovah who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants;
Lorsque tu mangeras et te rassasieras, garde-toi d’oublier l’Éternel, qui t’a fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, de la maison de servitude.
13 Jehovah thy God thou dost fear, and Him thou dost serve, and by His name thou dost swear;
Tu craindras l’Éternel, ton Dieu, tu le serviras, et tu jureras par son nom.
14 ye do not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who [are] round about you;
Vous n’irez point après d’autres dieux, d’entre les dieux des peuples qui sont autour de vous;
15 for a zealous God [is] Jehovah thy God in thy midst — lest the anger of Jehovah thy God burn against thee, and He hath destroyed thee from off the face of the ground.
car l’Éternel, ton Dieu, est un Dieu jaloux au milieu de toi. La colère de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, s’enflammerait contre toi, et il t’exterminerait de dessus la terre.
16 'Ye do not try Jehovah your God as ye tried in Massah;
Vous ne tenterez point l’Éternel, votre Dieu, comme vous l’avez tenté à Massa.
17 ye do diligently keep the commands of Jehovah your God, and His testimonies, and His statutes which He hath commanded thee,
Mais vous observerez les commandements de l’Éternel, votre Dieu, ses ordonnances et ses lois qu’il vous a prescrites.
18 and thou hast done that which is right and good in the eyes of Jehovah, so that it is well with thee, and thou hast gone in and possessed the good land which Jehovah hath sworn to thy fathers,
Tu feras ce qui est droit et ce qui est bien aux yeux de l’Éternel, afin que tu sois heureux, et que tu entres en possession du bon pays que l’Éternel a juré à tes pères de te donner,
19 to drive away all thine enemies from thy presence, as Jehovah hath spoken.
après qu’il aura chassé tous tes ennemis devant toi, comme l’Éternel l’a dit.
20 'When thy son asketh thee hereafter, saying, What [are] the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Jehovah our God hath commanded you?
Lorsque ton fils te demandera un jour: Que signifient ces préceptes, ces lois et ces ordonnances, que l’Éternel, notre Dieu, vous a prescrits?
21 then thou hast said to thy son, Servants we have been to Pharaoh in Egypt, and Jehovah bringeth us out of Egypt by a high hand;
tu diras à ton fils: Nous étions esclaves de Pharaon en Égypte, et l’Éternel nous a fait sortir de l’Égypte par sa main puissante.
22 and Jehovah giveth signs and wonders, great and sad, on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his house, before our eyes;
L’Éternel a opéré, sous nos yeux, des miracles et des prodiges, grands et désastreux, contre l’Égypte, contre Pharaon et contre toute sa maison;
23 and us He hath brought out thence, in order to bring us in, to give to us the land which He had sworn to our fathers.
et il nous a fait sortir de là, pour nous amener dans le pays qu’il avait juré à nos pères de nous donner.
24 And Jehovah commandeth us to do all these statutes, to fear Jehovah our God, for good to ourselves all the days, to keep us alive, as [at] this day;
L’Éternel nous a commandé de mettre en pratique toutes ces lois, et de craindre l’Éternel, notre Dieu, afin que nous fussions toujours heureux, et qu’il nous conservât la vie, comme il le fait aujourd’hui.
25 and righteousness it is for us, when we observe to do all this command before Jehovah our God, as He hath commanded us.
Nous aurons la justice en partage, si nous mettons soigneusement en pratique tous ces commandements devant l’Éternel, notre Dieu, comme il nous l’a ordonné.
