Deuteronomy 13
1 'When there ariseth in your midst a prophet, or a dreamer of a dream, and he hath given unto thee a sign or wonder,
S’il s’élève au milieu de toi un prophète ou un songeur qui t’annonce un signe ou un prodige,
2 and the sign and the wonder hath come which he hath spoken of unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods (which thou hast not known), and serve them,
et que s’accomplisse le signe ou le prodige dont il t’a parlé en disant: « Allons après d’autres dieux, — des dieux que tu ne connais pas! — et servons-les, »
3 thou dost not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or unto that dreamer of the dream, for Jehovah your God is trying you, to know whether ye are loving Jehovah your God with all your heart, and with all your soul;
tu n’écouteras pas les paroles de ce prophète ou de ce songeur; car Yahweh, votre Dieu, vous éprouve pour savoir si vous aimez Yahweh, votre Dieu, de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme.
4 after Jehovah your God ye walk, and Him ye fear, and His commands ye keep, and to His voice ye hearken, and Him ye serve, and to Him ye cleave.
C’est après Yahweh, votre Dieu, que vous irez, c’est lui que vous craindrez; vous observerez ses commandements, vous obéirez à sa voix, vous le servirez et vous vous attacherez à lui.
5 'And that prophet, or that dreamer of the dream, is put to death, for he hath spoken apostasy against Jehovah your God (who is bringing you out of the land of Egypt, and hath ransomed you out of a house of servants), to drive you out of the way in which Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee to walk, and thou hast put away the evil thing from thy midst.
Et ce prophète ou ce songeur sera mis à mort, car il a prêché la révolte contre Yahweh, votre Dieu, qui vous a fait sortir du pays d’Égypte et vous a délivrés de la maison de servitude, pour te détourner de la voie dans laquelle Yahweh, ton Dieu, t’a ordonné de marcher. Tu ôteras ainsi le mal du milieu de toi.
6 'When thy brother — son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend who [is] as thine own soul — doth move thee, in secret, saying, Let us go and serve other gods — (which thou hast not known, thou and thy fathers,
Si ton frère, fils de ta mère, ou ton fils, ou ta fille, ou la femme qui repose sur ton sein, ou ton ami qui est comme ta propre âme, t’incite en secret, en disant: « Allons, et servons d’autres dieux, » — des dieux que n’ont connus ni toi ni tes pères,
7 of the gods of the peoples who [are] round about you, who are near unto thee, or who are far off from thee, from the end of the earth even unto the end of the earth) —
d’entre les dieux des peuples qui vous entourent, près de toi ou loin de toi, d’un bout de la terre à l’autre, —
8 thou dost not consent to him, nor hearken unto him, nor doth thine eye have pity on him, nor dost thou spare, nor dost thou cover him over.
tu ne lui céderas pas et tu ne l’écouteras pas; ton œil sera sans pitié pour lui, tu ne l’épargneras pas et tu ne le couvriras pas,
9 'But thou dost surely kill him; thy hand is on him, in the first place, to put him to death, and the hand of all the people last;
mais tu le feras mourir; ta main se lèvera la première contre lui pour le mettre à mort, et la main de tout le peuple ensuite;
10 and thou hast stoned him with stones, and he hath died, for he hath sought to drive thee away from Jehovah thy God, who is bringing thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants;
tu l’accableras de pierres jusqu’à ce qu’il meure, parce qu’il a cherché à te détourner de Yahweh, ton Dieu, qui t’a fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, de la maison de servitude.
11 and all Israel do hear and fear, and add not to do like this evil thing in thy midst.
Tout Israël l’apprendra et sera dans la crainte, afin que l’on ne commette plus une action aussi criminelle au milieu de toi.
12 'When thou hearest, in one of thy cities which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee to dwell there, [one] saying,
Si tu entends dire de l’une des villes que Yahweh, ton Dieu, t’a données pour demeure:
13 Men, sons of worthlessness, have gone out of thy midst, and they force away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known —
« Des gens pervers, sortis du milieu de toi, ont séduit les habitants de leur ville, en disant: « Allons et servons d’autres dieux, » — des dieux que vous ne connaissez pas! —
14 and thou hast enquired, and searched, and asked diligently, and lo, truth; the thing is established; this abomination hath been done in thy midst:
tu feras une enquête, tu examineras, tu interrogeras avec soin. Si ce bruit est vrai et le fait établi, si cette abomination a été commise au milieu de toi,
15 'Thou dost surely smite the inhabitants of that city by the mouth of the sword; devoting it, and all that [is] in it, even its cattle, by the mouth of the sword;
alors, tu ne manqueras pas de passer au fil de l’épée les habitants de cette ville, la dévouant par anathème avec tout ce qu’elle contient, et tu passeras aussi son bétail au fil de l’épée.
16 and all its spoil thou dost gather unto the midst of its broad place, and hast burned with fire the city and all its spoil completely, before Jehovah thy God, and it hath been a heap age-during, it is not built any more;
Tu amasseras tout son butin au milieu de la place, et tu brûleras entièrement au feu la ville avec tout son butin, pour Yahweh, ton Dieu; elle sera pour toujours un monceau de ruines, elle ne sera plus rebâtie.
17 and there doth not cleave to thy hand any of the devoted thing, so that Jehovah doth turn back from the fierceness of His anger, and hath given to thee mercies, and loved thee, and multiplied thee, as He hath sworn to thy fathers,
Rien de ce qui aura été dévoué par anathème ne s’attachera à ta main, afin que Yahweh revienne de l’ardeur de sa colère, qu’il te fasse grâce et miséricorde, et qu’il te multiplie, comme il l’a juré à tes pères,
18 when thou dost hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep all his commands which I am commanding thee to-day, to do that which [is] right in the eyes of Jehovah thy God.
si tu obéis à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu, en observant tous ses commandements que je te prescris aujourd’hui, et en faisant ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahweh, ton Dieu.
