Amos 5
1 Hear this word that I am bearing to you, A lamentation, O house of Israel:
Yaa mana Israaʼel dubbii kana, faaruu booʼichaa kan ani waaʼee keessaniif booʼu kana dhagaʼaa:
2 'Fallen, not again to rise, hath the virgin of Israel, Left on her land — she hath no raiser up.'
“Durbi qulqullittiin Israaʼel kufteerti; isheen lammata hin kaatu; biyyuma ishee keessatti gatamtee nama ol ishee qabu tokko illee dhabde.”
3 For thus said the Lord Jehovah: The city that is going out a thousand, Doth leave an hundred, And that which is going out an hundred, Doth leave ten to the house of Israel.
Waaqayyo Gooftaan akkana jedha: “Magaalaa loltoota kuma tokko Israaʼeliif bobbaafteef dhibba tokko qofatu hafa; magaalaa loltoota dhibba tokko bobbaafteef kudhan qofatu hafa.”
4 For thus said Jehovah to the house of Israel: Seek ye Me, and live,
Waaqayyo mana Israaʼeliin akkana jedha: “Na barbaaddadhaatii jiraadhaa;
5 And seek not Beth-El, and Gilgal enter not, And Beer-Sheba pass not through, For Gilgal doth utterly remove, And Beth-El doth become vanity.
Beetʼeelin hin barbaaddatinaa; Gilgaal hin dhaqinaa; Bersheebaattis hin ceʼinaa. Gilgaal dhugumaan ni boojiʼamti; Beetʼeelis ni dhabamti.”
6 Seek ye Jehovah, and live, Lest He prosper as fire [against] the house of Joseph, And it hath consumed, And there is no quencher for Beth-El.
Waaqayyoon barbaaddadhaatii jiraadhaa; yoo kanaa achii inni akkuma ibiddaa mana Yoosef keessa baʼee haxaaʼaa; ibiddi sun ishee guba; Beetʼeelis nama irraa dhaamsu tokko iyyuu hin qabaattu.
7 Ye who are turning to wormwood judgment, And righteousness to the earth have put down,
Isin warra murtii qajeelaa hadhaatti geeddartanii qajeelummaas lafatti harcaaftanii dha.
8 The maker of Kimah and Kesil, And the turner to morning of death-shade, And day [as] night He hath made dark, Who is calling to the waters of the sea, And poureth them on the face of the earth, Jehovah [is] His name;
Inni urjiiwwan Torbii fi urjiiwwan Sadee uume, kan dukkana bariitti geeddaru, inni guyyaa dukkaneessee halkan godhu, kan galaana keessaa bishaan ol waamee fuula lafa gogaa irratti dhangalaasu maqaan isaa Waaqayyoo dha.
9 Who is brightening up the spoiled against the strong, And the spoiled against a fortress cometh.
Inni daʼoo jabaatti badiisa tasaa fida; magaalaa dallaa jabaa qabdus ni barbadeessa.
10 They have hated a reprover in the gate, And a plain speaker they abominate.
Isaan nama karra irratti nama ifatu ni jibbu; kan dhugaa dubbatus ni balfu.
11 Therefore, because of your trampling on the poor, And the tribute of corn ye take from him, Houses of hewn work ye have built, And ye do not dwell in them, Desirable vineyards ye have planted, And ye do not drink their wine.
Isin hiyyeeyyii dhidhiittanii akka isaan midhaan isinii kennan dirqisiiftu. Kanaafuu isin manneen dhagaa yoo ijaarrattan iyyuu manneen sana keessa hin jiraattan; isin iddoowwan qotiisaa gaarii keessa wayinii yoo dhaabbattan iyyuu daadhii wayinii isaanii hin dhugdan.
12 For I have known — many [are] your transgressions, And mighty your sins, Adversaries of the righteous, taking ransoms, And the needy in the gate ye turned aside.
Balleessaan keessan hammam akka baayʼatuu fi cubbuun keessanis hammam guddaa akka taʼe nan beekaatii. Isaan qajeeltota hacuucanii mattaʼaa irraa fudhatu; hiyyeeyyiis mana murtii keessatti murtii qajeelaa dhowwatu.
13 Therefore is the wise at that time silent, For an evil time it [is].
Kanaafuu namni qalbeeffataan yeroo akkasiitti afaan qabata; barri kun bara hamaadhaatii.
14 Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live, And it is so; Jehovah, God of Hosts, [is] with you, as ye said.
Akka lubbuudhaan jiraattaniif waan hamaa dhiisaatii waan gaarii barbaadaa. Yoos akkuma isin jettan sana Waaqayyo Waaqni Waan Hunda Dandaʼu isin wajjin taʼa.
15 Hate evil, and love good, And set up judgment in the gate, It may be Jehovah, God of Hosts, doth pity the remnant of Joseph.
Waan hamaa jibbaa; waan gaarii jaalladhaa; mana murtii keessatti murtii qajeelaa jabeessaa; Waaqayyo Waaqni Waan Hunda Dandaʼu tarii hambaa Yoosefiif garaa laafa taʼaatii.
16 Therefore, thus said Jehovah, God of Hosts, the Lord, In all broad places [is] lamentation, And in all out-places they say, 'Alas, alas,' And called the husbandman to mourning, And to lamentation the skilful of wailing.
Kanaafuu Gooftaan, Waaqayyo Waaqni Waan Hunda Dandaʼu akkana jedha: “Daandii hunda irra booʼicha, oobdii uummataa hunda irra immoo iyya dhiphinaatu jira. Qonnaan bultoonni akka booʼaniif, warri booʼan immoo akka wawwaataniif ni waamamu.
17 And in all vineyards [is] lamentation, For I pass into thy midst, said Jehovah.
Ani gidduu keessan waanan darbuuf iddoo dhaabaa wayinii hunda keessaa booʼichatu taʼa” jedha Waaqayyo.
18 Ho, ye who are desiring the day of Jehovah, Why [is] this to you — the day of Jehovah? It is darkness, and not light,
Isin warra guyyaa Waaqayyoo arguu hawwitaniif wayyoo! Isin maaliif guyyaa Waaqayyoo arguu hawwitu! Guyyaan sun dukkana malee ifa hin taʼuutii.
19 As [when] one fleeth from the face of the lion, And the bear hath met him, And he hath come in to the house, And hath leant his hand on the wall, And the serpent hath bitten him.
Wanni kun akkuma nama leenca jalaa baʼee afaan amaaketaa buʼu tokkoo ti; yookaan akka nama mana isaa seenee harka isaa keenyan manaa irra kaaʼatee bofti isa idde tokkoo ti.
20 Is not the day of Jehovah darkness and not light, Even thick darkness that hath no brightness?
Guyyaan Waaqayyoo ifa utuu hin taʼin dukkana mitii? Dukkana hamaa ifa tokko illee of keessaa hin qabne mitii?
21 I have hated — I have loathed your festivals, And I am not refreshed by your restraints.
“Ani ayyaana amantaa keessanii nan jibba; nan tuffadhas; waldaa keessanittis hin gammadu.
22 For though ye cause burnt-offerings and your presents to ascend to Me, I am not pleased, And the peace-offering of your fatlings I behold not.
Utuu isin aarsaa gubamuu fi kennaa midhaanii naaf fiddanii iyyuu ani jaalladhee isin irraa hin fudhadhu. Utuu isin aarsaa nagaa filatamaa naaf fiddanii iyyuu ani homaattuu isa hin lakkaaʼu.
23 Turn aside from Me the noise of thy songs, Yea, the praise of thy psaltery I hear not.
Waca faarfannaa keessanii asii balleessaa! Ani muuziiqaa baganaa keessanii hin dhaggeeffadhu.
24 And roll on as waters doth judgment, And righteousness as a perennial stream.
Garuu murtiin qajeelaan akkuma lagaa, qajeelummaanis akkuma burqaa hin gognee haa yaaʼu!
25 Sacrifices and offering did ye bring nigh to Me, In a wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
“Yaa mana Israaʼel isin waggaa afurtama gammoojjii keessatti takkumaa aarsaa fi kennaa naaf fiddaniirtuu?
26 And ye bare Succoth your king, and Chiun your images, The star of your god, that ye made for yourselves.
Isin waan harkuma keessaniin tolfattan jechuunis galma waaqeffannaa mootii keessanii, utubaa waaqa keessan tolfamaatii fi fakkii urjii waaqa keessanii ol fuutaniirtu.
27 And I removed you beyond Damascus, Said Jehovah, God of Hosts [is] His name.
Kanaafuu ani akka isin boojiʼamtaniif, Damaasqoodhaan gamatti isinan erga” jedha Waaqayyo inni maqaan isaa Waaqa Waan Hunda Dandaʼu taʼe sun.
