Amos 3
1 Hear ye this word that Jehovah hath spoken concerning you, O sons of Israel, concerning all the family that I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying:
Ecoutez cette parole que Yahweh a prononcée sur vous, enfants d’Israël, « sur toute la famille que j’ai fait monter du pays d’Égypte », — en ces termes:
2 Only you I have known of all families of the land, Therefore I charge on you all your iniquities.
Je n’ai connu que vous seuls parmi toutes les familles de la terre; c’est pourquoi je vous punirai de toutes vos iniquités.
3 Do two walk together if they have not met?
Deux hommes marchent-ils ensemble, sans qu’ils se soient accordés?
4 Roar doth a lion in a forest and prey he hath none? Give out doth a young lion his voice from his habitation, If he hath not caught?
Le lion rugit-il dans la forêt, sans avoir une proie? Le lionceau fait-il retentir sa voix du fond de sa tanière, sans qu’il ait rien pris?
5 Doth a bird fall into a snare of the earth, And there is no gin for it? Doth a snare go up from the ground, And prey it captureth not?
Le passereau tombe-t-il dans le filet à terre, sans qu’il y ait un appât pour lui! Le filet se lève-t-il du sol, sans qu’il ait pris quelque chose?
6 Is a trumpet blown in a city, And do people not tremble? Is there affliction in a city, And Jehovah hath not done [it]?
Sonne-t-on de la trompette dans une ville, sans que le peuple s’épouvante? Arrive-t-il un malheur dans une ville, sans que Yahweh en soit l’auteur?
7 For the Lord Jehovah doth nothing, Except He hath revealed His counsel unto His servants the prophets.
Car le Seigneur Yahweh ne fait rien sans qu’il ait révélé son secret à ses serviteurs, les prophètes.
8 A lion hath roared — who doth not fear? The Lord Jehovah hath spoken — who doth not prophesy?
Le lion a rugi: qui ne craindrait? Le Seigneur Yahweh a parlé: qui ne prophétiserait?
9 Sound ye unto palaces in Ashdod, And to palaces in the land of Egypt, and say: Be ye gathered on mountains of Samaria, And see many troubles within her, And oppressed ones in her midst.
Faites entendre cette parole sur les palais dans Azot, et sur les palais dans la terre d’Égypte, et dites: Rassemblez-vous sur les montagnes de Samarie, et voyez quels nombreux désordres sont au milieu d’elle, et quelles violences dans son sein.
10 And they have not known to act straightforwardly, An affirmation of Jehovah, Who are treasuring up violence and spoil in their palaces.
Et ils ne savent pas agir avec droiture, — oracle de Yahweh, eux qui entassent la violence et le pillage dans leurs palais.
11 Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: An adversary — and surrounding the land, And he hath brought down from thee thy strength, And spoiled have been thy palaces.
C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Voici l’ennemi, il enserre le pays; il te dépouillera de ta force, et tes palais seront pillés.
12 Thus said Jehovah: As the shepherd delivereth from the lion's mouth Two legs, or a piece of an ear, So delivered are the sons of Israel, Who are sitting in Samaria on the corner of a bed, And in Damascus [on that of] a couch.
Ainsi parle Yahweh: Comme le berger arrache de la gueule du lion deux jarrets ou un bout d’oreille, ainsi seront sauvés les enfants d’Israël, qui sont assis à Samarie, au coin d’un divan, sur des coussins de Damas.
13 Hear ye and testify to the house of Jacob, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, God of Hosts.
Écoutez, et attestez ceci dans la maison de Jacob, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh, le Dieu des armées:
14 For in the day of My charging the transgressions of Israel on him, I have laid a charge on the altars of Beth-El, And cut off have been the horns of the altar, And they have fallen to the earth.
Le jour où je vengerai sur lui les transgressions d’Israël, je vengerai aussi les autels de Béthel; les cornes de l’autel seront brisées, et elles tomberont à terre.
15 And I have smitten the winter-house with the summer-house, And perished have houses of ivory, And consumed have been many houses, An affirmation of Jehovah!
Je frapperai la maison d’hiver, avec la maison d’été; les maisons d’ivoire seront dévastées, et de nombreuses maisons seront détruites, — oracle de Yahweh.
