Acts 12
1 And about that time, Herod the king put forth his hands, to do evil to certain of those of the assembly,
På denne tid la kong Herodes hånd på nogen av menigheten og mishandlet dem.
2 and he killed James, the brother of John, with the sword,
Jakob, Johannes' bror, avlivet han med sverd,
3 and having seen that it is pleasing to the Jews, he added to lay hold of Peter also — and they were the days of the unleavened food —
og da han så at det var jødene til behag, grep han dessuten også Peter - det var de usyrede brøds dager -
4 whom also having seized, he did put in prison, having delivered [him] to four quaternions of soldiers to guard him, intending after the passover to bring him forth to the people.
og da han hadde grepet ham, kastet han ham i fengsel, og overlot til fire vaktskifter av stridsmenn, hvert på fire mann, å passe på ham, da han efter påsken vilde føre ham frem for folket.
5 Peter, therefore, indeed, was kept in the prison, and fervent prayer was being made by the assembly unto God for him,
Så holdt de da vakt over Peter i fengslet; men det blev gjort inderlig bønn til Gud for ham av menigheten.
6 and when Herod was about to bring him forth, the same night was Peter sleeping between two soldiers, having been bound with two chains, guards also before the door were keeping the prison,
Da nu Herodes skulde til å føre ham frem, sov Peter den natt mellem to stridsmenn, bundet med to lenker, og vaktmenn utenfor døren passet på fengslet.
7 and lo, a messenger of the Lord stood by, and a light shone in the buildings, and having smitten Peter on the side, he raised him up, saying, 'Rise in haste,' and his chains fell from off [his] hands.
Og se, en Herrens engel stod der, og et lys skinte i fangerummet, og han støtte Peter i siden og vekket ham op og sa: Skynd dig og stå op! Og lenkene falt av hans hender.
8 The messenger also said to him, 'Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals;' and he did so; and he saith to him, 'Put thy garment round and be following me;'
Og engelen sa til ham: Bind op om dig og knyt dine sko på dig! Han gjorde så. Og han sier til ham: Kast din kappe om dig, og følg mig!
9 and having gone forth, he was following him, and he knew not that it is true that which is done through the messenger, and was thinking he saw a vision,
Han gikk da ut og fulgte ham, og han forstod ikke at det som engelen gjorde, var virkelig, han trodde han så et syn.
10 and having passed through a first ward, and a second, they came unto the iron gate that is leading to the city, which of its own accord did open to them, and having gone forth, they went on through one street, and immediately the messenger departed from him.
De gikk da gjennem den første vakt og den annen, og kom til den jernport som førte ut til byen; den åpnet sig for dem av sig selv, og de trådte ut og gikk en gate frem, og straks skiltes engelen fra ham.
11 And Peter having come to himself, said, 'Now I have known of a truth that the Lord did sent forth His messenger, and did deliver me out of the hand of Herod, and all the expectation of the people of the Jews;'
Da kom Peter til sig selv og sa: Nu vet jeg for visst at Herren har utsendt sin engel og fridd mig ut av Herodes' hånd og av alt det som jødefolket hadde ventet på.
12 also, having considered, he came unto the house of Mary, the mother of John, who is surnamed Mark, where there were many thronged together and praying.
Da han nu hadde sanset sig, gikk han bort til det hus som eides av Maria, mor til Johannes som kaltes med tilnavn Markus; der var mange samlet og holdt bønn.
13 And Peter having knocked at the door of the porch, there came a damsel to hearken, by name Rhoda,
Og da han banket på porten, kom det en tjenestepike ved navn Rode ut for å høre efter,
14 and having known the voice of Peter, from the joy she did not open the porch, but having run in, told of the standing of Peter before the porch,
og da hun kjente Peters røst, blev hun så glad at hun ikke åpnet porten, men løp inn og fortalte at Peter stod utenfor
15 and they said unto her, 'Thou art mad;' and she was confidently affirming [it] to be so, and they said, 'It is his messenger;'
De sa til henne: Du er fra sans og samling. Men hun forsikret at det var således. Da sa de: Det er hans engel.
16 and Peter was continuing knocking, and having opened, they saw him, and were astonished,
Men Peter blev ved å banke på, de lukket da op og så ham, og de blev forferdet.
17 and having beckoned to them with the hand to be silent, he declared to them how the Lord brought him out of the prison, and he said, 'Declare to James and to the brethren these things;' and having gone forth, he went on to another place.
Han vinket da til dem med hånden at de skulde tie stille, og han fortalte dem hvorledes Herren hadde ført ham ut av fengslet, og sa: Fortell dette til Jakob og brødrene! Så gikk han bort og drog til et annet sted.
18 And day having come, there was not a little stir among the soldiers what then was become of Peter,
Da det nu blev dag, var det ikke lite opstyr blandt stridsmennene; de undret sig over hvad det vel var blitt av Peter.
19 and Herod having sought for him, and not having found, having examined the guards, did command [them] to be led away to punishment, and having gone down from Judea to Caesarea, he was abiding [there].
Herodes lot lete efter ham, men fant ham ikke; han tok da vaktmennene i forhør og bød at de skulde føres bort; og han drog ned fra Judea til Cesarea og opholdt sig der.
20 And Herod was highly displeased with the Tyrians and Sidonians, and with one accord they came unto him, and having made a friend of Blastus, who [is] over the bed-chambers of the king, they were asking peace, because of their country being nourished from the king's;
Han var meget forbitret på tyrierne og sidonierne; men de enedes om å trede frem for ham, og efterat de hadde fått Blastus, kongens kammerherre, på sin side, bad de om fred, fordi deres land hadde sin næring fra kongens.
21 and on a set day, Herod having arrayed himself in kingly apparel, and having sat down upon the tribunal, was making an oration unto them,
På en fastsatt dag klædde da Herodes sig i kongelig skrud og satte sig på sin trone og holdt en tale til dem,
22 and the populace were shouting, 'The voice of a god, and not of a man;'
og folket ropte til ham: Dette er Guds røst, og ikke et menneskes.
23 and presently there smote him a messenger of the Lord, because he did not give the glory to God, and having been eaten of worms, he expired.
Straks slo en Herrens engel ham, fordi han ikke gav Gud æren, og han blev fortært av ormer og opgav ånden.
24 And the word of God did grow and did multiply,
Men Guds ord hadde fremgang og utbredte sig.
25 and Barnabas and Saul did turn back out of Jerusalem, having fulfilled the ministration, having taken also with [them] John, who was surnamed Mark.
Og Barnabas og Saulus vendte tilbake fra Jerusalem efterat de hadde fullført sin tjeneste, og de tok med sig derfra Johannes som kaltes med tilnavn Markus.
