2 Samuel 5

1 And all the tribes of Israel come unto David, to Hebron, and speak, saying, 'Lo, we [are] thy bone and thy flesh;

Et toutes les tribus d’Israël vinrent vers David à Hébron, disant: Nous voici, nous sommes votre os et votre chair.

2 also heretofore, in Saul's being king over us, thou hast been he who is bringing out and bringing in Israel, and Jehovah saith to thee, Thou dost feed My people Israel, and thou art for leader over Israel.'

Mais et hier et avant-hier, lorsque Saül était roi sur nous, vous meniez et rameniez Israël; mais le Seigneur vous a dit: C’est toi qui seras le pasteur de mon peuple Israël, et c’est toi qui seras chef sur Israël.

3 And all the elders of Israel come unto the king, to Hebron, and king David maketh with them a covenant in Hebron before Jehovah, and they anoint David for king over Israel.

Et les vieillards d’Israël vinrent aussi vers le roi à Hébron, et le roi David fit alliance avec eux à Hébron devant le Seigneur, et ils oignirent David roi sur Israël.

4 A son of thirty years [is] David in his being king; forty years he hath reigned;

David était âgé de trente ans, lorsqu’il commença à régner, et il régna quarante ans.

5 in Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years, over all Israel and Judah.

À Hébron, il régna sur Juda sept ans et six mois; mais à Jérusalem, il régna trente-trois ans sur tout Israël et Juda.

6 And the king goeth, and his men, to Jerusalem, unto the Jebusite, the inhabitant of the land, and they speak to David, saying, 'Thou dost not come in hither, except thou turn aside the blind and the lame;' saying, 'David doth not come in hither.'

Et le roi s’en alla, et tous ceux qui étaient avec lui, à Jérusalem, contre les Jébuséens, habitants du pays: et ceux-ci dirent à David: Vous n’entrerez pas ici, à moins que vous n’enleviez les aveugles et les boiteux, disant par là: David n’entrera pas ici.

7 And David captureth the fortress of Zion, it [is] the city of David.

Mais David prit la citadelle de Sion, qui est la cité de David.

8 And David saith on that day, 'Any one smiting the Jebusite, (let him go up by the watercourse), and the lame and the blind — the hated of David's soul,' — because the blind and lame say, 'He doth not come into the house.'

Car David avait proposé en ce jour-là une récompense à celui qui battrait les Jébuséens, toucherait les gouttières des toits, et enlèverait les aveugles et les boiteux, haïssant l’âme de David. C’est pourquoi l’on dit en proverbe: Un aveugle et un boiteux n’entreront point dans le temple.

9 And David dwelleth in the fortress, and calleth it — City of David, and David buildeth round about, from Millo and inward,

Or, David habita dans la citadelle, et il l’appela Cité de David; et il bâtit tout autour, depuis Mello et au dedans.

10 and David goeth, going on and becoming great, and Jehovah, God of Hosts, [is] with him.

Et il allait, avançant et croissant; et le Seigneur Dieu des armées était avec lui.

11 And Hiram king of Tyre sendeth messengers unto David, and cedar-trees, and artificers of wood, and artificers of stone, for walls, and they build a house for David,

Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya aussi des messagers à David, des bois de cèdre, des charpentiers et des tailleurs de pierres pour les murailles; et ils bâtirent une maison à David.

12 and David knoweth that Jehovah hath established him for king over Israel, and that He hath lifted up his kingdom, because of His people Israel.

Et David connut que le Seigneur l’avait confirmé roi sur Israël, et qu’il avait élevé son royaume sur son peuple Israël.

13 And David taketh again concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after his coming from Hebron, and there are born again to David sons and daughters.

David prit donc encore des femmes du second et du premier rang de Jérusalem, après qu’il fut venu d’Hébron; et il naquit à David d’autres fils et des filles;

14 And these [are] the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Shammuah, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

Et voici les noms de ceux qui lui naquirent à Jérusalem: Samua, Sobab, Nathan, Salomon,

15 and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

Jébaar, Elisua, Népheg,

16 and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.

Japhia, Elisama, Elioda et Eliphaleth.

17 And the Philistines hear that they have anointed David for king over Israel, and all the Philistines come up to seek David, and David heareth, and goeth down unto the fortress,

Les Philistins donc apprirent qu’on avait oint David comme roi sur Israël, et ils montèrent tous pour chercher David; lorsque David l’eut appris, il descendit dans la forteresse.

18 and the Philistines have come, and are spread out in the valley of Rephaim.

Or, les Philistins, venant, se répandirent dans la vallée de Raphaïm.

19 And David asketh of Jehovah, saying, 'Do I go up unto the Philistines? dost Thou give them into my hand?' And Jehovah saith unto David, 'Go up, for I certainly give the Philistines into thy hand.'

Et David consulta le Seigneur, disant: Monterai-je contre les Philistins, et les mettrez-vous en ma main? Et le Seigneur dit à David: Monte, parce que les livrant, je mettrai les Philistins en ta main.

20 And David cometh in to Baal-Perazim, and David smiteth them there, and saith, 'Jehovah hath broken forth [on] mine enemies before me, as the breaking forth of waters;' therefore he hath called the name of that place Baal-Perazim.

David donc vint à Baal-Pharasim, et il les battit là, et il dit: Le Seigneur a dispersé mes ennemis devant moi, comme se dispersent les eaux. C’est pour cela que ce lieu fut appelé du nom de Baal-Pharasim.

21 And they forsake there their idols, and David and his men lift them up.

Et les Philistins laissèrent là leurs images taillées au ciseau, que David et ses hommes emportèrent.

22 And the Philistines add again to come up, and are spread out in the valley of Rephaim,

Et les Philistins recommencèrent encore à monter, et ils se répandirent dans la vallée de Raphaïm.

23 and David asketh of Jehovah, and He saith, 'Thou dost not go up, turn round unto their rear, and thou hast come to them over-against the mulberries,

Alors David consulta le Seigneur: Monterai-je contre les Philistins, et les livrerez-vous en mes mains? Le Seigneur répondit: Ne monte pas contre eux, mais tourne derrière eux, et tu viendras contre eux vis-à-vis des poiriers.

24 and it cometh to pass, in thy hearing the sound of a stepping in the tops of the mulberries, then thou dost move sharply, for then hath Jehovah gone out before thee to smite in the camp of the Philistines.'

Et lorsque tu entendras le bruit de quelqu’un qui marche au haut des poiriers, tu engageras la bataille, parce qu’alors marchera le Seigneur devant ta face pour battre le camp des Philistins.

25 And David doth so, as Jehovah commanded him, and smiteth the Philistines from Geba unto thy coming to Gazer.

C’est pourquoi David fit comme lui avait ordonné le Seigneur, et il battit les Philistins depuis Gabaa jusqu’à ce qu’on arrive à Gézer.
