2 Samuel 19
1 And it is declared to Joab, 'Lo, the king is weeping and mourning for Absalom;'
Or, des gens le rapportèrent à Joab, disant: Voilà que le roi pleure et se lamente à cause d'Absalon.
2 and the salvation on that day becometh mourning to all the people, for the people hath heard on that day, saying, 'The king hath been grieved for his son.'
La victoire de ce jour s'est changée en deuil pour tout le peuple, parce que le peuple a ouï que le roi s'affligeait à cause de son fils.
3 And the people stealeth away, on that day, to go in to the city, as the people steal away, who are ashamed, in their fleeing in battle;
Et l'armée se glissa en cachette dans la ville, comme s'y glisse une armée honteuse d'avoir pris la fuite pendant le combat.
4 and the king hath covered his face, yea, the king crieth — a loud voice — 'My son Absalom, Absalom, my son, my son.'
Et le roi se voila la face, et le roi s'écria à haute voix, disant: Absalon, mon fils! Absalon, mon fils!
5 And Joab cometh in unto the king to the house, and saith, 'Thou hast put to shame to-day the faces of all thy servants, those delivering thy life to-day, and the life of thy sons, and of thy daughters, and the life of thy wives, and the life of thy concubines,
Enfin, Joab entra auprès du roi en sa demeure, et il dit: Tu outrages tous les serviteurs qui aujourd'hui ont pris parti pour toi, et pour la vie de tes fils, de tes filles, de tes femmes et de tes concubines.
6 to love thine enemies, and to hate those loving thee, for thou hast declared to-day that thou hast no princes and servants, for I have known to-day that if Absalom [were] alive, and all of us to-day dead, that then it were right in thine eyes.
Puisque tu aimes ceux qui te haïssent et que tu hais ceux qui t'aiment, tu fais connaître que tes princes et tes serviteurs ne te sont rien; car je sais à présent que si Absalon était vivant, et nous tous morts, à tes yeux ce serait bien.
7 'And now, rise, go out and speak unto the heart of thy servants, for by Jehovah I have sworn, that — thou art not going out — there doth not lodge a man with thee to-night; and this [is] worse for thee than all the evil that hath come upon thee from thy youth till now.'
Lève-toi, sors, parle au cœur de tes serviteurs; car, je te jure par le Seigneur que si tu ne te mets en marche aujourd'hui, pas un homme ne passera cette nuit auprès de toi. Reconnais-le en toi-même: ce serait pour toi un malheur plus grand que tous ceux qui le sont venus, depuis ta première jeunesse jusqu'à cette heure.
8 And the king riseth, and sitteth in the gate, and to all the people they have declared, saying, 'Lo, the king is sitting in the gate;' and all the people come in before the king, and Israel hath fled, each to his tents.
Alors, le roi se leva, s'assit sur la porte, et toute l'armée se dit: Voilà le roi assis sur la porte. Et toute l'armée s'approcha du roi devant la porte; car Israël s'était enfui chacun sous sa tente.
9 And it cometh to pass, all the people are contending through all the tribes of Israel, saying, 'The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, yea, he himself delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines, and now he hath fled out of the land because of Absalom,
Et le peuple de toutes les tribus d'Israël se mit à discuter, disant: Le roi David nous a délivrés de tous nos ennemis; c'est lui qui nous a affranchis du joug des Philistins, et il vient de s'enfuir de sa terre, de son royaume, à cause d'Absalon!
10 and Absalom whom we anointed over us [is] dead in battle, and now, why are ye silent — to bring back the king?'
Cet Absalon que nous avions sacré, pour qu'il régnât sur nous, a été tué dans la bataille; pourquoi donc ne parlez-vous pas de rappeler David? Or, les discours de tout Israël arrivèrent jusqu'au roi.
11 And king David sent unto Zadok and unto Abiathar the priests, saying, 'Speak ye unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye last to bring back the king unto his house? (and the word of all Israel hath come unto the king, unto his house; )
Et le roi David envoya auprès des prêtres Sadoc et Abiathar, disant: Parlez aux anciens de Juda, dites-leur: Pourquoi donc êtes-vous les derniers à rappeler le roi en sa demeure? Les discours de tout Israël sont arrivés jusqu'au roi, au lieu où il réside.
12 my brethren ye [are], my bone and my flesh ye [are], and why are ye last to bring back the king?
Vous êtes mes frères, vous êtes ma chair et mes os: pourquoi donc êtes- vous les derniers à ramener le roi dans sa demeure?
13 And to Amasa say ye, Art not thou my bone and my flesh? Thus doth God do to me, and thus He doth add, if thou art not head of the host before me all the days instead of Joab.'
Et vous direz à Amessaï: David dit: N'es-tu pas ma chair et mes os? Que le Seigneur me punisse et qu'il me punisse encore, si tu ne deviens pas, devant moi pour toujours, le général en chef de toutes nos armées, à la place de Joab.
14 And he inclineth the heart of all the men of Judah as one man, and they send unto the king, 'Turn back, thou, and all thy servants.'
Il gagna ainsi le cœur de tous les hommes de Juda, comme le cœur d'un seul homme; et ils envoyèrent au roi, et ils lui dirent: Reviens avec tous tes serviteurs.
15 And the king turneth back, and cometh in unto the Jordan, and Judah hath come to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan,
Et le roi se mit en marche; il alla jusqu'au Jourdain, et tous les hommes de Juda se portèrent à sa rencontre à Galgala, pour le ramener en deçà du fleuve.
16 and Shimei son of Gera, the Benjamite, who [is] from Bahurim, hasteth, and cometh down with the men of Judah, to meet king David,
Et Seméï, fils de Géra, de la famille de Jémini en Bathurim, se hâta, et il se mêla aux hommes de Juda, pour aller au-devant du roi David.
17 and a thousand men [are] with him from Benjamin, and Ziba servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him, and they have gone prosperously over the Jordan before the king.
Il avait avec lui mille hommes de Benjamin, et Siba le serviteur de Saül, et ses quinze fils, et ses vingt serviteurs; ils marchèrent droit au Jourdain, au-devant du roi.
18 And passed over hath the ferry-boat to carry over the household of the king, and to do that which [is] good in his eyes, and Shimei son of Gera hath fallen before the king in his passing over into Jordan,
Et ils préparèrent le service du passage du roi; ils lui menèrent un bac pour exciter l'ardeur de la maison du roi, et pour qu'il fût fait selon le bon plaisir de David. Or, Seméï, fils de Géra, se jeta devant lui la face contre terre, dès qu'il eut passé le Jourdain.
19 and saith unto the king, 'Let not my lord impute to me iniquity; neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely in the day that my lord the king went out from Jerusalem, — for the king to set [it] unto his heart;
Et il dit au roi: Que mon Seigneur ne tienne pas compte de mon iniquité, qu'il ne se souvienne pas que son serviteur a péché le jour où mon seigneur est sorti de Jérusalem; puisse-t-il ne l'avoir point à cœur!
20 for thy servant hath known that I have sinned; and lo, I have come to-day, first of all the house of Joseph, to go down to meet my lord the king.'
Car ton serviteur a reconnu sa faute, et voilà que j'arrive aujourd'hui le premier de tout Israël et de la maison de Joseph, pour m'humilier devant le roi mon seigneur.
21 And Abishai son of Zeruiah answereth and saith, 'For this is not Shimei put to death — because he reviled the anointed of Jehovah?'
Abessa, fils de Sarvia, dit: Est-ce que Semeï ne sera pas mis à mort, pour avoir maudit l'oint du Seigneur?
22 And David saith, 'What — to me and to you, O sons of Zeruiah, that ye are to me to-day for an adversary? to-day is any man put to death in Israel? for have I not known that to-day I [am] king over Israel?'
Mais David dit: Qu'y a-t-il entre vous et moi, fils de Sarvia, pour qu'aujourd'hui vous me tendiez un piège? Nul homme en Israël aujourd'hui ne sera mis à mort; est-ce que j'ignore que je règne sur Israël?
23 And the king saith unto Shimei, 'Thou dost not die;' and the king sweareth to him.
Et le roi dit à Sémeï: Tu ne mourras point; et il le lui jura.
24 And Mephibosheth son of Saul hath come down to meet the king — and he prepared not his feet, nor did he prepare his upper lip, yea, his garments he washed not, even from the day of the going away of the king, till the day that he came in peace —
Miphiboseth, petit-fils de Saül, alla aussi à la rencontre du roi; il n'avait pris aucun soin de ses pieds; il ne s'était point coupé les ongles, il ne s'était point rasé autour des lèvres, il n'avait point lavé ses vêtements, depuis le jour où le roi avait quitté Jérusalem jusqu'à ce jour où il revenait en paix.
25 and it cometh to pass, when he hath come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king saith to him, 'Why didst thou not go with me, Mephibosheth?'
Et lorsqu'il alla à la rencontre du roi retournant à Jérusalem, David lui dit: Pourquoi n'es-tu point venu avec moi, Miphiboseth?
26 And he saith, 'My lord, O king, my servant deceived me, for thy servant said, I saddle for me the ass, and ride on it, and go with the king, for thy servant [is] lame;
Miphiboseth lui répondit: O roi mon seigneur, mon serviteur m'a trompé, car ton serviteur lui avait dit: bâte-moi l'ânesse, que je la monte, et je suivrai le roi (tu sais que ton serviteur est boiteux).
27 and he uttereth slander against thy servant unto my lord the king, and my lord the king [is] as a messenger of God; and do thou that which is good in thine eyes,
Or, Siba a usé d'artifice à l'égard de ton serviteur, devant le roi mon seigneur. Le roi mon seigneur est comme un ange de Dieu, qu'il fasse de moi ce que bon lui semble.
28 for all the house of my father have been nothing except men of death before my lord the king, and thou dost set thy servant among those eating at thy table, and what right have I any more — even to cry any more unto the king?'
Car tous ceux de la maison de mon père étaient des hommes de mort, devant le roi mon seigneur, quand tu as fait de ton serviteur l'un de tes convives. Quelle justification peut donc m'être permise pour que je crie encore devant le roi?
29 And the king saith to him, 'Why dost thou speak any more of thy matters? I have said, Thou and Ziba — share ye the field.'
Et le roi lui dit: Qu'est-il besoin que tu parles davantage? J'ai prononcé: Siba et toi vous partagerez les champs.
30 And Mephibosheth saith unto the king, 'Yea, the whole let him take, after that my lord the king hath come in peace unto his house.'
Miphiboseth reprit: Qu'il prenne tout, puisque le roi mon seigneur rentre en paix dans sa demeure.
31 And Barzillai the Gileadite hath gone down from Rogelim, and passeth over the Jordan with the king, to send him away over the Jordan;
Or, Berzelli le Galaadite était sorti de Rhogellim, et il avait passé le Jourdain avec le roi, afin de l'escorter de l'autre côté du fleuve.
32 and Barzillai [is] very aged, a son of eighty years, and he hath sustained the king in his abiding in Mahanaim, for he [is] a very great man;
Berzelli était un homme très âgé: il avait quatre-vingts ans; il avait nourri le roi pendant son séjour à Manaïm, car il était extrêmement riche.
33 and the king saith unto Barzillai, 'Pass thou over with me, and I have sustained thee with me in Jerusalem.'
Le roi lui dit: Tu vas venir plus loin avec moi, et je nourrirai, auprès de moi, ta vieillesse à Jérusalem.
34 And Barzillai saith unto the king, 'How many [are] the days of the years of my life, that I go up with the king to Jerusalem?
Mais Berzelli lui répondit: Combien de jours me reste-t-il à vivre, pour que j'aille avec le roi à Jérusalem?
35 A son of eighty years I [am] to-day; do I know between good and evil? doth thy servant taste that which I am eating, and that which I drink? do I hearken any more to the voice of singers and songstresses? and why is thy servant any more for a burden unto my lord the king?
J'ai aujourd'hui quatre-vingts ans; puis-je encore discerner le bon et le mauvais? Ton serviteur trouve-t-il quelque goût à ce qu'il mange et à ce qu'il boit? Écoute-t'il avec plaisir la voix des chanteurs et des chanteuses? Pourquoi ton serviteur irait-il attrister son seigneur et son roi?
36 As a little thing, thy servant doth pass over the Jordan with the king, and why doth the king recompense me this recompense?
Ton serviteur accompagnera son roi quelque peu au delà du fleuve. Pourquoi donc le roi me donnerait-il une si grande récompense?
37 Let, I pray thee, thy servant turn back again, and I die in mine own city, near the burying-place of my father and of my mother, — and lo, thy servant Chimham, let him pass over with my lord the king, and do thou to him that which [is] good in thine eyes.'
Que ton serviteur reste en repos; je mourrai dans ma ville, auprès du sépulcre de mon père et de ma mère; voilà ton serviteur Chamaam, mon fils; il suivra plus loin le roi mon seigneur; traite-le comme bon te semblera.
38 And the king saith, 'With me doth Chimham go over, and I do to him that which [is] good in thine eyes, yea, all that thou dost fix on me I do to thee.'
Le roi reprit: Que Chamaam vienne avec moi, et je le traiterai de mon mieux; et tout ce que tu pourras désirer de ma main, je le ferai pour toi.
39 And all the people pass over the Jordan, and the king hath passed over, and the king giveth a kiss to Barzillai, and blesseth him, and he turneth back to his place.
Et l'armée entière franchit le Jourdain, le roi passa; puis, il baisa Berzelli et le bénit, et celui-ci retourna en sa demeure.
40 And the king passeth over to Gilgal, and Chimham hath passed over with him, and all the people of Judah, and they bring over the king, and also the half of the people of Israel.
Le roi se rendit ensuite à Galgala, et Chamaam le suivit; il y avait avec le roi tout le peuple de Juda et la moitié d'Israël.
41 And, lo, all the men of Israel are coming unto the king, and they say unto the king, 'Wherefore have they stolen thee — our brethren, the men of Judah?' (and they bring the king and his household over the Jordan, and all the men of David with him).
Et tous ceux d'Israël allèrent trouver le roi, et ils lui dirent: Pourquoi nos frères de Juda nous ont-ils dérobé le roi? Pourquoi l'ont-ils escorté quand il a traversé le fleuve avec toute sa maison et tous les hommes de sa suite?
42 And all the men of Judah answer against the men of Israel, 'Because the king [is] near unto us, and why [is] this — ye are displeased about this matter? have we at all eaten of the king's [substance?] a gift hath he lifted up to us?'
Ceux de Juda répondirent à ceux d'Israël, et ils dirent: Pourquoi le roi nous est-il proche? et pourquoi à ce sujet vous irritez-vous si fort? Avons- nous mangé aux dépens du roi? nous a-t-il fait des présents? a-t-il levé quelque tribut pour nous?
43 And the men of Israel answer the men of Judah, and say, 'Ten parts we have in the king, and also in David more than you; and wherefore have ye lightly esteemed us, that our word hath not been first to bring back our king?' And the word of the men of Judah is sharper than the word of the men of Israel.
Et ceux d'Israël répliquèrent: Nous avons dix bras au service du roi, nous sommes vos premiers-nés, nous sommes plus que vous auprès de David. Pourquoi donc nous injurier et ne pas tenir compte de ce qu'avant Juda nous avons parlé de ramener notre roi? Or, les paroles de ceux de Juda avaient été plus dures que celles d'Israël.
