2 Samuel 10
1 And it cometh to pass afterwards, that the king of the Bene-Ammon dieth, and Hanun his son reigneth in his stead,
Și s-a întâmplat după aceasta, că împăratul copiilor lui Amon a murit și Hanun, fiul său, a domnit în locul său.
2 and David saith, 'I do kindness with Hanun son of Nahash, as his father did with me kindness;' and David sendeth to comfort him by the hand of his servants concerning his father, and the servants of David come in to the land of the Bene-Ammon.
Atunci David a spus: Voi arăta bunătate lui Hanun, fiul lui Nahaș, precum tatăl său mi-a arătat mie bunătate. Și David a trimis să îl mângâie prin servitorii săi pentru tatăl său. Și servitorii lui David au venit în țara copiilor lui Amon.
3 And the heads of the Bene-Ammon say unto Hanun their lord, 'Is David honouring thy father in thine eyes because he hath sent to thee comforters? for to search the city, and to spy it, and to overthrow it, hath not David sent his servants unto thee?'
Și prinții copiilor lui Amon i-au spus lui Hanun, domnul lor: Gândești tu că David onorează pe tatăl tău, că a trimis mângâietori la tine? Nu a trimis David mai degrabă pe servitorii săi la tine ca să cerceteze cetatea și să o spioneze și să o dărâme?
4 And Hanun taketh the servants of David, and shaveth off the half of their beard, and cutteth off their long robes in the midst — unto their buttocks, and sendeth them away;
De aceea Hanun i-a luat pe servitorii lui David și le-a ras bărbile pe jumătate și le-a tăiat hainele la mijloc, până la fese, și i-a trimis.
5 and they declare [it] to David, and he sendeth to meet them, for the men have been greatly ashamed, and the king saith, 'Abide in Jericho till your beard doth spring up — then ye have returned.'
Când i-au spus aceasta lui David, el a trimis să îi întâlnească, deoarece oamenii erau foarte rușinați; și împăratul a spus: Rămâneți la Ierihon până vă cresc bărbile și apoi întoarceți-vă.
6 And the Bene-Ammon see that they have been abhorred by David, and the Bene-Ammon send and hire Aram of Beth-Rehob, and Aram of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah [with] a thousand men, and Ish-Tob [with] twelve thousand men;
Și când copiii lui Amon au văzut că s-au împuțit înaintea lui David, copiii lui Amon au trimis și au angajat pe sirienii din Bet-Rehob și pe sirienii din Țoba, douăzeci de mii de pedeștri, și de la împăratul Maaca, o mie de bărbați, și din Iștob, douăsprezece mii de bărbați.
7 and David heareth, and sendeth Joab, and all the host — the mighty men.
Și când David a auzit de aceasta, l-a trimis pe Ioab și toată oștirea războinicilor.
8 And the Bene-Ammon come out, and set battle in array, at the opening of the gate, and Aram of Zoba, and Rehob, and Ish-Tob, and Maacah, [are] by themselves in the field;
Și copiii lui Amon au ieșit și s-au desfășurat pentru bătălie la intrarea porții; și sirienii din Țoba și din Rehob și Iștob și Maaca, erau singuri pe câmp.
9 and Joab seeth that the front of the battle hath been unto him before and behind, and he chooseth of all the chosen in Israel, and setteth in array to meet Aram,
Când Ioab a văzut că frontul bătăliei era împotriva lui dinainte și dinapoi, a ales din toți bărbații aleși ai lui Israel și i-a desfășurat împotriva sirienilor;
10 and the rest of the people he hath given into the hand of Abishai his brother, and setteth in array to meet the Bene-Ammon.
Și restul poporului l-a dat în mâna lui Abișai, fratele său, ca să îi desfășoare împotriva copiilor lui Amon.
11 And he saith, 'If Aram be stronger than I, then thou hast been to me for salvation, and if the Bene-Ammon be stronger than thou, then I have come to give salvation to thee;
Și a spus: Dacă sirienii sunt prea tari pentru mine, atunci tu să mă ajuți; dar dacă fiii lui Amon sunt prea tari pentru tine, atunci eu voi veni și te voi ajuta.
12 be strong and strengthen thyself for our people, and for the cities of our God, and Jehovah doth that which is good in His eyes.'
Încurajează-te și să fim bărbați pentru poporul nostru și pentru cetățile Dumnezeului nostru; și DOMNUL să facă ce îi pare bine.
13 And Joab draweth nigh, and the people who [are] with him, to battle against Aram, and they flee from his presence;
Și Ioab și poporul care era cu el s-au apropiat să lupte împotriva sirienilor; iar ei au fugit dinaintea lui.
14 and the Bene-Ammon have seen that Aram hath fled, and they flee from the presence of Abishai, and go in to the city; and Joab turneth back from the Bene-Ammon, and cometh in to Jerusalem.
Și când copiii lui Amon au văzut că sirienii fugiseră, atunci au fugit și ei dinaintea lui Abișai și au intrat în cetate. Astfel Ioab s-a întors de la copiii lui Amon și a venit la Ierusalim.
15 And Aram seeth that it is smitten before Israel, and they are gathered together;
Și când sirienii au văzut că au fost loviți înaintea lui Israel, s-au adunat împreună.
16 and Hadadezer sendeth, and bringeth out Aram which [is] beyond the River, and they come in to Helam, and Shobach head of the host of Hadadezer [is] before them.
Și Hadadezer a trimis și i-a scos pe sirienii care erau dincolo de râu; și au venit la Helam; și Șobac, căpetenia oștirii lui Hadadezer, mergea în fruntea lor.
17 And it is declared to David, and he gathereth all Israel, and passeth over the Jordan, and cometh in to Helam, and Aram setteth itself in array to meet David, and they fight with him;
Și când i s-a spus lui David, el a adunat tot Israelul și a trecut Iordanul și a venit la Helam. Și sirienii s-au desfășurat împotriva lui David și au luptat cu el.
18 and Aram fleeth from the presence of Israel, and David slayeth of Aram seven hundred charioteers, and forty thousand horsemen, and Shobach head of its host he hath smitten, and he dieth there.
Și sirienii au fugit dinaintea lui Israel; și David a ucis șapte sute de conducători de care dintr-ai sirienilor și patruzeci de mii de călăreți și a lovit pe Șobac, căpetenia oștirii lor, care a murit acolo.
19 And all the kings — servants of Hadadezer — see that they have been smitten before Israel, and make peace with Israel, and serve them; and Aram is afraid to help any more the Bene-Ammon.
Și când toți împărații care erau servitori lui Hadadezer au văzut că erau loviți înaintea lui Israel, au făcut pace cu Israel și le-au servit. Astfel sirienii s-au temut să îi mai ajute pe copiii lui Amon.
