2 Samuel 10
1 And it cometh to pass afterwards, that the king of the Bene-Ammon dieth, and Hanun his son reigneth in his stead,
Po tych wydarzeniach umarł król synów Ammona, a jego syn Chanun królował w jego miejsce.
2 and David saith, 'I do kindness with Hanun son of Nahash, as his father did with me kindness;' and David sendeth to comfort him by the hand of his servants concerning his father, and the servants of David come in to the land of the Bene-Ammon.
Wtedy Dawid powiedział: Okażę życzliwość Chanunowi, synowi Nachasza, tak jak jego ojciec okazał mi życzliwość. I Dawid wysłał swe sługi, by pocieszyć go po [stracie] jego ojca. Słudzy Dawida przyszli więc do ziemi synów Ammona.
3 And the heads of the Bene-Ammon say unto Hanun their lord, 'Is David honouring thy father in thine eyes because he hath sent to thee comforters? for to search the city, and to spy it, and to overthrow it, hath not David sent his servants unto thee?'
Lecz książęta synów Ammona powiedzieli do swego pana Chanuna: Czy myślisz, że Dawid chce uczcić twego ojca i dlatego przysłał do ciebie pocieszycieli? Czy nie po to raczej Dawid posyła swoje sługi do ciebie, aby przypatrzyli się miastu i przeszpiegowali je, by potem je zburzyć?
4 And Hanun taketh the servants of David, and shaveth off the half of their beard, and cutteth off their long robes in the midst — unto their buttocks, and sendeth them away;
Chanun wziął więc sługi Dawida, zgolił im brody do połowy, poobcinał ich szaty do połowy, aż do pośladków, i odesłał ich.
5 and they declare [it] to David, and he sendeth to meet them, for the men have been greatly ashamed, and the king saith, 'Abide in Jericho till your beard doth spring up — then ye have returned.'
A gdy doniesiono o tym Dawidowi, wysłał im na spotkanie [posłów], ponieważ ci mężczyźni byli bardzo znieważeni. I król powiedział im: Zostańcie w Jerychu, aż wam brody odrosną, a potem wróćcie.
6 And the Bene-Ammon see that they have been abhorred by David, and the Bene-Ammon send and hire Aram of Beth-Rehob, and Aram of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah [with] a thousand men, and Ish-Tob [with] twelve thousand men;
Gdy synowie Ammona spostrzegli, że obrzydli Dawidowi, posłali i wynajęli sobie dwadzieścia tysięcy piechoty Syryjczyków z Bet-Rekob i Syryjczyków z Soby, od króla Maaki tysiąc mężczyzn, a [z] Isztobu dwanaście tysięcy mężczyzn.
7 and David heareth, and sendeth Joab, and all the host — the mighty men.
Kiedy Dawid o tym usłyszał, wysłał Joaba z całym zastępem dzielnych wojowników.
8 And the Bene-Ammon come out, and set battle in array, at the opening of the gate, and Aram of Zoba, and Rehob, and Ish-Tob, and Maacah, [are] by themselves in the field;
Wtedy synowie Ammona wyszli i ustawili się w szyku bojowym przed wejściem do bramy. Syryjczycy zaś z Soby i z Rechob oraz ci z Isztobu i Maaki [stanęli] osobno w polu.
9 and Joab seeth that the front of the battle hath been unto him before and behind, and he chooseth of all the chosen in Israel, and setteth in array to meet Aram,
Gdy Joab zobaczył wojska wystawione przeciwko sobie z przodu i z tyłu, wybrał [ludzi] spośród wszystkich wyborowych [mężczyzn] w Izraelu i ustawił ich w szyku bojowym przeciwko Syryjczykom.
10 and the rest of the people he hath given into the hand of Abishai his brother, and setteth in array to meet the Bene-Ammon.
A resztę ludzi oddał pod rękę swego brata Abiszaja, aby ich ustawił w szyku bojowym przeciwko synom Ammona.
11 And he saith, 'If Aram be stronger than I, then thou hast been to me for salvation, and if the Bene-Ammon be stronger than thou, then I have come to give salvation to thee;
I powiedział: Jeśli Syryjczycy będą silniejsi ode mnie, przyjdziesz mi z pomocą, a jeśli synowie Ammona będą silniejsi od ciebie, ja przyjdę tobie z pomocą.
12 be strong and strengthen thyself for our people, and for the cities of our God, and Jehovah doth that which is good in His eyes.'
Bądź odważny i walczmy mężnie za swój lud i za miasta naszego Boga, a niech PAN uczyni to, co jest dobre w jego oczach.
13 And Joab draweth nigh, and the people who [are] with him, to battle against Aram, and they flee from his presence;
Joab wraz z ludem, który był z nim, wyruszył więc do bitwy z Syryjczykami. A [oni] uciekli przed nim.
14 and the Bene-Ammon have seen that Aram hath fled, and they flee from the presence of Abishai, and go in to the city; and Joab turneth back from the Bene-Ammon, and cometh in to Jerusalem.
Gdy synowie Ammona zobaczyli, że Syryjczycy uciekli, uciekli i [oni] przed Abiszajem i weszli do miasta. Wtedy Joab zawrócił od synów Ammona i przybył do Jerozolimy.
15 And Aram seeth that it is smitten before Israel, and they are gathered together;
Kiedy Syryjczycy zobaczyli, że są pobici przez Izraela, zebrali się razem.
16 and Hadadezer sendeth, and bringeth out Aram which [is] beyond the River, and they come in to Helam, and Shobach head of the host of Hadadezer [is] before them.
I Hadadezer posłał po Syryjczyków, którzy byli za rzeką, i sprowadził [ich]. Przybyli oni do Helam, a Szobak, dowódca wojska Hadadezera, prowadził ich.
17 And it is declared to David, and he gathereth all Israel, and passeth over the Jordan, and cometh in to Helam, and Aram setteth itself in array to meet David, and they fight with him;
Gdy doniesiono o tym Dawidowi, zebrał cały Izrael, przeprawił się przez Jordan i przybył do Helam. A Syryjczycy ustawili się w szyku bojowym przeciw Dawidowi i stoczyli z nim bitwę.
18 and Aram fleeth from the presence of Israel, and David slayeth of Aram seven hundred charioteers, and forty thousand horsemen, and Shobach head of its host he hath smitten, and he dieth there.
Lecz Syryjczycy uciekli przed Izraelem i spośród Syryjczyków Dawid zabił [ludzi z] siedmiuset rydwanów oraz czterdzieści tysięcy jeźdźców. Zranił też Szobaka, dowódcę ich wojska, który tam zmarł.
19 And all the kings — servants of Hadadezer — see that they have been smitten before Israel, and make peace with Israel, and serve them; and Aram is afraid to help any more the Bene-Ammon.
Kiedy wszyscy królowie, poddani Hadadezera, zobaczyli, że są pobici przez Izraela, zawarli pokój z Izraelem i służyli im. I Syryjczycy bali się odtąd iść na pomoc synom Ammona.
