2 Kings 19
1 And it cometh to pass, at king Hezekiah's hearing, that he rendeth his garments, and covereth himself with sackcloth, and entereth the house of Jehovah,
Ce qu’ayant entendu le roi Ezéchias, il déchira ses vêtements, se couvrit d’un sac, et entra dans la maison du Seigneur.
2 and sendeth Eliakim, who [is] over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covering themselves with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet, son of Amoz,
Et il envoya Eliacim, intendant de sa maison, Sobna, le scribe, et les anciens d’entre les prêtres, couverts de sacs, à Isaïe, le prophète, fils d’Amos,
3 and they say unto him, 'Thus said Hezekiah — A day of distress, and rebuke, and despising [is] this day; for come have sons unto the birth, and power there is not to bring forth.
Lesquels dirent: Voici ce que dit Ezéchias: C’est un jour de tribulation, de reproche et de blasphème, que ce jour: des enfants sont venus jusqu’à l’enfantement, et celle qui est en travail n’a pas de forces.
4 'It may be Jehovah thy God doth hear all the words of the chief of the butlers with which the king of Asshur his lord hath sent him to reproach the living God, and hath decided concerning the words that Jehovah thy God hath heard, and thou hast lifted up prayer for the remnant that is found.'
Peut-être que le Seigneur ton Dieu entendra toutes les paroles de Rabsacès, qu’a envoyé le roi des Assyriens, son maître, pour insulter le Dieu vivant, et l’attaquer par les paroles que le Seigneur ton Dieu a entendues: fais donc une prière au Seigneur pour les restes qui ont été retrouvés.
5 And the servants of king Hezekiah come in unto Isaiah,
Les serviteurs du roi Ezéchias vinrent donc vers Isaïe.
6 and Isaiah saith to them, 'Thus do ye say unto your lord: Thus said Jehovah, Be not afraid because of the words that thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Asshur have reviled Me.
Et Isaïe leur répondit: Vous direz à votre maître: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ne crains point à cause des paroles que tu as entendues, par lesquelles m’ont blasphémé les serviteurs du roi des Assyriens.
7 Lo, I am giving in him a spirit, and he hath heard a report, and hath turned back to his land, and I have caused him to fall by the sword in his land.'
Voilà que moi je lui enverrai un esprit, et il apprendra une nouvelle, et il retournera dans sa terre, et je l’abattrai par le glaive dans sa terre.
8 And the chief of the butlers turneth back and findeth the king of Asshur fighting against Libnah, for he hath heard that he hath journeyed from Lachish.
Rabsacès s’en retourna donc, et il trouva le roi des Assyriens assiégeant Lobna; car il avait su qu’il s’était retiré de devant Lachis.
9 And he heareth concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, saying, 'Lo, he hath come out to fight with thee;' and he turneth and sendeth messengers unto Hezekiah, saying,
Et lorsque Sennachérib eut entendu, au sujet de Tharaca, roi d’Ethiopie, des gens disant: Voilà qu’il est sorti pour combattre contre vous, et qu’il allait marcher contre ce roi, il envoya des messagers à Ezéchias, en disant:
10 'Thus do ye speak unto Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God lift thee up in whom thou art trusting, saying, Jerusalem is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.
Vous direz ceci à Ezéchias, roi de Juda: Que votre Dieu, en qui vous avez confiance, ne vous séduise pas, et ne dites point: Jérusalem ne sera point livrée aux mains du roi des Assyriens.
11 Lo, thou hast heard that which the kings of Asshur have done to all the lands — to devote them; and thou art delivered!
Car vous-même, vous avez appris ce que les rois des Assyriens ont fait à tous les pays, comment ils les ont ravagés: est-ce donc que seul vous pourrez échapper?
12 did the gods of the nations deliver them whom my fathers destroyed — Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who [are] in Thelassar?
Est-ce que les dieux des nations ont délivré tous ceux qu’ont ravagés mes pères, c’est-à-dire Gozan, Haran, Réseph, et les enfants d’Eden, qui étaient en Thélassar?
13 Where [is] the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?'
Où est le roi d’Emath, le roi d’Arphad, le roi de la ville de Sépharvaïm, d’Ana et d’Ava?
14 And Hezekiah taketh the letters out of the hand of the messengers, and readeth them, and goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and Hezekiah spreadeth it before Jehovah.
C’est pourquoi, lorsqu’Ezéchias eut reçu la lettre de Sennachérib de la main des messagers, et qu’il l’eut lue, il monta dans le temple, et étendit la lettre devant le Seigneur,
15 And Hezekiah prayeth before Jehovah, and saith, 'O Jehovah, God of Israel, inhabiting the cherubs, Thou [art] God Himself — Thyself alone — to all the kingdoms of the earth: Thou hast made the heavens and the earth.
Et il pria en sa présence, disant: Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, qui êtes assis sur les chérubins, c’est vous qui êtes le seul Dieu de tous les rois de la terre; c’est vous qui avez fait le ciel et la terre.
16 Incline, O Jehovah, Thine ear, and hear; open, O Jehovah, Thine eyes, and see; and hear Thou the words of Sennacherib with which he hath sent him to reproach the living God.
Inclinez votre oreille et écoutez; ouvrez vos yeux. Seigneur, et voyez: écoutez toutes les paroles de Sennachérib, qui a envoyé pour incriminer devant nous le Dieu vivant.
17 'Truly, O Jehovah, kings of Asshur have laid waste the nations, and their land,
Il est vrai, Seigneur, les rois des Assyriens ont détruit les nations et toutes leurs terres,
18 and have put their gods into fire, for they [are] no gods, but work of the hands of man, wood and stone, and destroy them.
Et ils ont jeté leurs dieux dans le feu; car ce n’étaient point des dieux, mais des ouvrages de mains d’hommes, de bois et de pierre, et ils les ont détruits.
19 And now, O Jehovah our God, save us, we pray Thee, out of his hand, and know do all kingdoms of the earth that Thou [art] Jehovah God — Thyself alone.'
Maintenant donc, Seigneur notre Dieu, sauvez-nous de la main de ce roi, afin qu’ils sachent, tous les royaumes de la terre, que c’est vous qui êtes le seul Seigneur Dieu.
20 And Isaiah son of Amoz sendeth unto Hezekiah, saying, 'Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed unto Me concerning Sennacherib king of Asshur I have heard:
Or Isaïe, fils d’Amos, envoya vers Ezéchias, disant: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël: La prière que tu m’as faite touchant Sennachérib, roi des Assyriens, je l’ai entendue.
21 this [is] the word that Jehovah spake concerning him: 'Trampled on thee — laughed at thee, Hath the virgin daughter of Zion Behind thee shaken the head — Hath the daughter of Jerusalem?
Voici la parole que le Seigneur a dite de lui: Elle t’a méprisé et elle t’a raillé, la vierge, fille de Sion, derrière toi elle a secoué la tête, la fille de Jérusalem.
22 Whom hast thou reproached and reviled? And against whom lifted up a voice? Yea, thou dost lift up on high thine eyes — Against the Holy One of Israel!
Qui as-tu insulté et qui as-tu blasphémé? contre qui as-tu élevé la voix, et porté en haut les yeux? contre le saint d’Israël.
23 By the hand of thy messengers Thou hast reproached the Lord, and sayest: In the multitude of my chariots I have come up to a high place of mountains — The sides of Lebanon, And I cut down the height of its cedars, The choice of its firs, And I enter the lodging of its extremity, The forest of its Carmel.
Par l’entremise de tes serviteurs tu as insulté le Seigneur, et tu as dit: Avec la multitude de mes quadriges je suis monté sur le haut des montagnes, au sommet du Liban: j’ai coupé par le pied ses hauts cèdres et ses sapins les plus beaux. Je suis même entré jusqu’à l’extrémité de ses limites, et la forêt de son Carmel,
24 I have digged, and drunk strange waters, And I dry up with the sole of my steps All floods of a bulwark.
C’est moi qui l’ai coupée par le pied. Et j’ai bu des eaux étrangères, et j’ai séché par les traces de mes pieds toutes les eaux fermées.
25 Hast thou not heard from afar, it I made, From days of old that I formed it? Now I have brought it in, And it becometh a desolation, Ruinous heaps [are] fenced cities,
N’as-tu donc point ouï dire ce que dès le commencement j’ai fait? Dès les jours anciens je l’ai préparé, et c’est maintenant que je l’ai exécuté; et des villes de combattants fortifiées seront comme des collines ruinées.
26 And their inhabitants [are] feeble-handed, They were broken down, and are dried up, They have been the herb of the field, And the greenness of the tender grass, Grass of the roofs, And blasted corn — before it hath risen up!
Et ceux qui y sont dedans, faibles de main, ont tremblé et ont été confondus: ils sont devenus comme le foin d’un champ, comme l’herbe verte des toits et qui sèche avant de venir à maturité.
27 And thy sitting down, and thy going out, And thy coming in, I have known, And thine anger towards Me;
Ta demeure, ton entrée, ta sortie, et ton chemin par où tu es venu, je les ai sus d’avance, et même ta fureur contre moi.
28 Because of thine anger towards Me, And thy noise — it came up into Mine ears, I have put My hook in thy nose, And My bridle in thy lips, And have caused thee to turn back, In the way in which thou camest.
Tu as été furieux contre moi, et ton orgueil est monté à mes oreilles: c’est pourquoi je mettrai un cercle à tes narines et un mors à tes lèvres, et je te ramènerai par la voie par laquelle tu es venu.
29 And this to thee [is] the sign, Food of the year [is] the spontaneous growth, And in the second year the self-produced, And in the third year sow ye, and reap, And plant vineyards, and eat their fruits.
Mais pour toi, Ezéchias, voici un signe: Mange cette année ce que tu trouveras; en la seconde année, ce qui naîtra de soi-même; mais, en la troisième année, semez et recueillez, plantez des vignes et mangez-en le fruit.
30 And it hath continued — The escaped of the house of Judah That hath been left — to take root beneath, And hath made fruit upward.
Et tout ce qui sera de reste de la maison de Juda, jettera des racines en bas et fera des fruits en haut.
31 For from Jerusalem goeth out a remnant, And an escape from mount Zion; The zeal of Jehovah [of Hosts] doth this.
Car de Jérusalem sortiront des restes, et ce qui sera sauvé de la montagne de Sion: le zèle du Seigneur des armées fera cela.
32 Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Concerning the king of Asshur: He doth not come in unto this city, Nor doth he shoot there an arrow, Nor doth he come before it with shield. Nor doth he pour out against it a mount.
C’est pourquoi voici ce que dit le Seigneur du roi des Assyriens: Il n’entrera point dans cette ville, il ne lancera point contre elle de flèche; pas un bouclier ne l’occupera, et pas un retranchement ne l’entourera.
33 In the way that he cometh in — In it he turneth back, And unto this city he doth not come in, The affirmation of Jehovah —
Il retournera par la voie par laquelle il est venu; et il n’entrera point dans cette ville, dit le Seigneur.
34 And I have covered over this city, To save it, for Mine own sake, And for the sake of David My servant.'
Je protégerai cette ville, et je la sauverai à cause de moi et à cause de mon serviteur David.
35 And it cometh to pass, in that night, that a messenger of Jehovah goeth out, and smiteth in the camp of Asshur a hundred eighty and five thousand, and they rise early in the morning, and lo, all of them [are] dead corpses.
Il arriva donc en cette nuit-là qu’il vint un ange du Seigneur, et qu’il tua dans le camp des Assyriens cent quatre-vingt mille hommes. Et lorsqu’au point du jour il se fut levé, il vit tous les corps des morts et, se retirant, il s’en alla.
36 And Sennacherib king of Asshur journeyeth, and goeth, and turneth back, and dwelleth in Nineveh;
Ainsi s’en retourna Sennachérib, roi des Assyriens, et il demeura à Ninive.
37 and it cometh to pass, he is bowing himself in the house of Nisroch his god, and Adramelech and Sharezar [his sons] have smitten him with the sword, and they have escaped to the land of Ararat, and Esar-Haddon his son reigneth in his stead.
Et lorsqu’il adorait dans le temple Nesroch, son dieu, Adramélech et Sarasar, ses fils, le frappèrent du glaive, et s’enfuirent dans la terre des Arméniens, et Asarhaddon, son fils, régna eu sa place.
