2 Chronicles 24
1 A son of seven years [is] Joash in his reigning, and forty years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Zibiah of Beer-Sheba.
Joas war beim Regierungsantritt sieben Jahre alt und regierte vierzig Jahre in Jerusalem; seine Mutter hieß Zibja und stammte aus Beerseba.
2 And Joash doth that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
Joas tat, was dem HERRN wohlgefiel, solange der Priester Jojada lebte.
3 And Jehoiada taketh for him two wives, and he begetteth sons and daughters.
Dieser verheiratete ihn mit zwei Frauen, und er wurde Vater von Söhnen und Töchtern.
4 And it cometh to pass after this, it hath been with the heart of Joash to renew the house of Jehovah,
Späterhin entschloß sich Joas, den Tempel des HERRN wiederherzustellen.
5 and he gathereth the priests and the Levites, and saith to them, 'Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather from all Israel money to strengthen the house of your God sufficiently year by year, and ye, ye do haste to the matter;' and the Levites have not hasted.
Er ließ also die Priester und Leviten zusammenkommen und befahl ihnen: »Begebt euch in die Ortschaften Judas und sammelt Geld von allen Israeliten ein, um das Haus eures Gottes Jahr für Jahr auszubessern, und zwar müßt ihr die Sache beschleunigen!« Doch die Leviten hatten es damit nicht eilig.
6 And the king calleth for Jehoiada the head, and saith to him, 'Wherefore hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the tribute of Moses, servant of Jehovah, and of the assembly of Israel, for the tent of the testimony?
Da ließ der König den Oberpriester Jojada kommen und sagte zu ihm: »Warum hast du die Leviten nicht dazu angehalten, aus Juda und Jerusalem die Abgabe einzubringen, die Mose, der Knecht des HERRN, der israelitischen Volksgemeinde für das Gesetzeszelt auferlegt hat?
7 for sons of Athaliah, the wicked one, have broken up the house of God, and also, all the holy things of the house of Jehovah they have prepared for Baalim.'
Denn die ruchlose Athalja und ihre Söhne haben das Gotteshaus verfallen lassen und haben auch alle heiligen Gegenstände, die zum Hause des HERRN gehörten, für die Baale verwandt!«
8 And the king speaketh, and they make one chest, and put it at the gate of the house of Jehovah without,
So fertigte man denn auf Befehl des Königs eine Lade an und stellte sie draußen vor dem Tempeltor auf.
9 and give an intimation in Judah and in Jerusalem to bring in to Jehovah the tribute of Moses, servant of God, [laid] on Israel in the wilderness.
Sodann ließ man in Juda und Jerusalem öffentlich bekanntmachen, man solle dem HERRN die Abgabe entrichten, die Mose, der Knecht Gottes, den Israeliten in der Wüste auferlegt hatte.
10 And all the heads, and all the people rejoice, and they bring in, and cast into the chest, unto completion.
Da freuten sich alle Vornehmen und das ganze Volk und brachten ihren Beitrag und warfen ihn in die Lade, bis sie voll war.
11 And it cometh to pass, at the time one bringeth in the chest for the inspection of the king by the hand of the Levites, and at their seeing that the money [is] abundant, that a scribe of the king hath come in, and an officer of the head-priest, and they empty the chest, and take it up and turn it back unto its place; thus they have done day by day, and gather money in abundance.
Sooft man nun die Lade durch die Leviten zu der königlichen Aufsichtsbehörde bringen ließ – wenn man nämlich sah, daß viel Geld darin war –, so gingen der Schreiber des Königs und der vom Oberpriester Beauftragte hin, leerten die Lade und brachten sie dann wieder an ihren Platz zurück. So tat man Tag für Tag und brachte eine Menge Geld zusammen.
12 And the king and Jehoiada give it unto the doers of the work of the service of the house of Jehovah, and they are hiring hewers and artificers to renew the house of Jehovah, and also — to artificers in iron and brass to strengthen the house of Jehovah.
Der König und Jojada übergaben dieses dann denen, die als Werkmeister am Tempel des HERRN tätig waren, und diese stellten Steinmetzen und Zimmerleute an, um den Tempel des HERRN wiederherzustellen, dazu auch Eisen- und Kupferschmiede für die Ausbesserung des Tempels.
13 And those doing the business work, and there goeth up lengthening to the work by their hand, and they establish the house of God, by its proper measure, and strengthen it.
So waren denn die Werkmeister tätig, und unter ihrer Hand nahm die Ausführung der Arbeiten guten Fortgang, so daß sie das Gotteshaus in allen seinen Teilen wiederherstellten und in guten Stand setzten.
14 And at their completing [it], they have brought in before the king and Jehoiada the rest of the money, and they make it vessels for the house of Jehovah, vessels of serving, and of offering up, and spoons, even vessels of gold and silver; and they are causing burnt-offerings to ascend in the house of Jehovah continually, all the days of Jehoiada.
Als sie damit fertig waren, lieferten sie das noch übrige Geld an den König und an Jojada ab, und man ließ davon Geräte für den Tempel des HERRN anfertigen, Geräte für den Gottesdienst und für die Opfer, nämlich Schalen und andere goldene und silberne Geräte. Man brachte aber, solange Jojada lebte, Brandopfer regelmäßig im Tempel des HERRN dar.
15 And Jehoiada is aged and satisfied with days, and dieth — a son of a hundred and thirty years in his death,
Als Jojada aber alt und lebenssatt geworden war, starb er; er war bei seinem Tode hundertunddreißig Jahre alt.
16 and they bury him in the city of David, with the kings, for he hath done good in Israel, and with God, and his house.
Man begrub ihn in der Davidsstadt bei den Königen, weil er sich um Israel und auch um Gott und seinen Tempel verdient gemacht hatte.
17 And after the death of Jehoiada come in have heads of Judah, and bow themselves to the king; then hath the king hearkened unto them,
Nach dem Tode Jojadas aber kamen die Fürsten Judas und warfen sich vor dem Könige nieder; da schenkte dieser ihnen Gehör.
18 and they forsake the house of Jehovah, God of their fathers, and serve the shrines and the idols, and there is wrath upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their guilt.
So verließen sie denn das Haus des HERRN, des Gottes ihrer Väter, und verehrten die Standbilder der Aschera und die Götzenbilder. Da brach der Zorn Gottes über Juda und Jerusalem infolge dieser ihrer Verschuldung herein.
19 And He sendeth among them prophets, to bring them back unto Jehovah, and they testify against them, and they have not given ear;
Er sandte Propheten unter sie, um sie zum HERRN zurückzuführen; diese redeten ihnen ins Gewissen, doch sie schenkten ihnen kein Gehör.
20 and the Spirit of God hath clothed Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest, and he standeth over-against the people, and saith to them, 'Thus said God, Why are ye transgressing the commands of Jehovah, and prosper not? because ye have forsaken Jehovah — He doth forsake you.'
Da kam der Geist Gottes über Sacharja, den Sohn des Priesters Jojada, so daß er vor das Volk hintrat und zu ihnen sagte: »So hat Gott gesprochen: ›Warum übertretet ihr die Gebote des HERRN? Ihr bringt euch dadurch nur um euer Glück! Weil ihr den HERRN verlassen habt, hat er euch auch verlassen!‹«
21 And they conspire against him, and stone him with stones by the command of the king, in the court of the house of Jehovah,
Aber sie stifteten eine Verschwörung gegen ihn an und steinigten ihn auf Befehl des Königs im Vorhof des Tempels des HERRN.
22 and Joash the king hath not remembered the kindness that Jehoiada his father did with him, and slayeth his son, and in his death he said, 'Jehovah doth see, and require.'
So wenig gedachte der König Joas der Liebe, die Jojada, der Vater jenes (Sacharja), ihm erwiesen hatte, daß er der Mörder seines Sohnes wurde. Dieser aber rief sterbend aus: »Der HERR möge es sehen und wird es rächen!«
23 And it cometh to pass, at the turn of the year, come up hath the force of Aram against him, and they come in unto Judah and Jerusalem, and destroy all the heads of the people from the people, and all their spoil they have sent to the king of Damascus,
Und noch vor Ablauf des Jahres zog das Heer der Syrer gegen ihn heran. Als diese in Juda und Jerusalem eingedrungen waren, ließen sie alle Obersten des Volkes grausam hinrichten und sandten alle Beute, die sie bei ihnen gemacht hatten, an den König von Damaskus.
24 for with few men have the force of Aram come in, and Jehovah hath given into their hand a mighty force for multitude, because they have forsaken Jehovah, God of their fathers; and with Joash they have executed judgments.
Obgleich nämlich das syrische Heer bei seinem Einfall verhältnismäßig klein war, hatte der HERR sie doch über ein sehr zahlreiches Heer der Judäer siegen lassen, weil diese den HERRN, den Gott ihrer Väter, verlassen hatten; so vollzogen die Syrer das Strafgericht an Joas.
25 And in their going from him — for they left him with many diseases — his servants themselves have conspired against him, for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slay him on his bed, and he dieth; and they bury him in the city of David, and have not buried him in the graves of the kings.
Als sie dann von ihm weggezogen waren – sie ließen ihn nämlich schwer erkrankt zurück –, verschworen sich seine Hofleute gegen ihn wegen seiner Bluttat am Sohne des Priesters Jojada und ermordeten ihn auf seinem Bette. So fand er seinen Tod; und man begrub ihn in der Davidsstadt, jedoch nicht in den Gräbern der Könige.
26 And these [are] those conspiring against him, Zabad son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad son of Shimrith the Moabitess.
Folgende (Hofleute) hatten aber die Verschwörung gegen ihn angestiftet: Sabad, der Sohn der Ammonitin Simeath, und Josabad, der Sohn der Moabitin Simrith.
27 As to his sons, and the greatness of the burden upon him, and the foundation of the house of God, lo, they are written on the 'Inquiry' of the book of the Kings; and reign doth Amaziah his son in his stead.
Was aber seine Söhne betrifft und die vielen Prophetensprüche gegen ihn und den Neubau des Hauses Gottes: das alles findet sich bereits aufgezeichnet in der erbaulichen Auslegung des Buches der Könige. Sein Sohn Amazja folgte ihm dann in der Regierung nach.
